This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

If I really like Shantae and the Pirate Curse on the 3DS, will I like Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut on PC? It is cheap on Steam right now but I've never played another Shantae game before so I don't know if they are all Metroidvania-lite games or not.

What is the window layout in the room? The sun will mess with the pointer. Also do you have other reflective surfaces around the room? The sensor bar has the IR LEDs, and the Wiimote has a sensor that sees them. A glass cabinet on one side of the room shouldn't matter, but if the sun is at your back and reflecting off the cabinet you can run into issues.

Well... there are 3 windows behind it actually, two are at 45degree angles... bah. I bet that's doing it. I will try closing all the blinds. It didn't even cross my mind to do this.

You probably have an IR source somewhere near the TV (or maybe reflecting onto the TV glass). Could be a lamp or something.

Have you tried tweaking the sensitivity of the wiimote?

I did actually and it made no difference, judging from the above post it is clear why

I'm possibly in the market for a Nintendo 3DS and I'm confused.

There are multiple models available, with different names and features. Going by the product descriptions, "new" in the name means it has been improved in various ways, but there's an XL version that is larger and I don't know if this is a good thing or not for my small hands. And then there's the 2DS, but I'm not sure why this would be preferable to anyone over turning 3D off on a 3DS.

I've only played on a 3DS one time before and that was a couple of years ago on a demo unit in a store, and I couldn't see the 3D effect. I kept fiddling with the slider and moving my head around, but it looked flat and blurry no matter what. The "new" models are advertised as having better 3D; for people who had problems with the 3D on older models, did the newer models fix it?

Should I get a 3DS, and if so which model?

The 2DS is nice for young children who aren't supposed to be exposed to 3D and there is no hinge that can be broken. I don't like the system myself.

The regular 3DS comes in two size models. The larger XL model has a larger screen which I personally think is nice, but many people on this board prefer the smaller model which is lighter and has a sharper screen (due to higher pixel density).

The N3DS is a brand new system that will allow you play N3DS-exclusive games and it can also enhance the experience of some 3DS games. It's also available in two sizes.

There are plenty of good games for the 3DS and I do think it's worth a purchase. I already own a 2DS and a 3DS XL, but if I didn't I would buy a N3DS XL.

It's possible the store display could have been messed up, or you had trouble finding the right distance to look at it from. I never had much problem getting clear 3D on a normal sized 3DS, but the XL made the sweet spot pretty picky. The "New" 3DS XL makes it a lot more convenient, but still annoying if you're moving around a lot or looking off screen often (it tracks your eyes, but sometimes it isn't fast enough or you go out of the camera's vision and it has to catch up).

The original 3DS is the most compact, and probably one of the cheaper options.

The 2DS is super ergonomic compared to the others, and feels generally sturdier. Of course, it can't do 3D (and imo, it's worth going for a 3D model). It will probably also be one of the cheapest choices.

The 3DS XL has a much larger screen and is very nice. Like I said, feels harder to find the 3D sweetspot. The screen is great though (less pixel density, but then larger screens are more important to me).

The New 3DS (small version) isn't available in North America, so I haven't tried it. The New 3DS XL is though, and it's very nice. In addition to improved 3D, it also adds extra inputs (though not many games really make use). There's a nub for second analog, plus two extra shoulder buttons. Makes playing some games a way better experience (mainly Monster Hunter). Also, some games will be exclusive (for now just a port though).

I would go n3DS XL. If you're worried about pixels per inch and small hands and all, try out the original 3DS or n3DS (depending on how interested you are in 3D. If 2D mode would be pretty ok with you, 3DS is fine). 2DS if you're trying to play something input heavy and need the comfort (I use it for Smash Bros.)

My friend is willing to let me put his PSN account on my PS4 as a secondary device so I can play some of his games. Before we do that, could someone tell me if I'll be able to deactivate my system as a secondary device for his PSN account without any harm done to my account, and how I can do that ? Thanks.

noob question about tv refresh rates. if a tv has a 240 hz refresh rate, does that mean if I hook up my computer ( with a gpu that that is capable of running a game at 120 fps) then will I actually get a visible 120 fps on my tv screen

( I really really doubt the answer is yes because i have never seen it mentioned but maybe today is my lucky day and the answer will be yes)

Anyone have issues with the DS4 on Windows 7? It works fine over USB, but I bought a bluetooth usb adapter and I can't get it to work. It pairs, but no drivers are loaded, and it just turns itself off after a few seconds. The best I could search for shows that this should be enabled...

...but it is not listed for me. I tried getting it to work on 2 different computers.

Are the chapters (or, well, "Nights") in the first Fatal Frame of similar lengths to one another?

I'm playing it at the moment, but I'm quite a lot slower than the average time from howlongtobeat; I've just finished chapter 2, and I'm a little over seven hours on the clock. Given that there are total completion times from normal play that are shorter than that, I'm wondering if I'm just being very slow (it's damn scary, I'm running to save points a lot!); or it might be the case that Chapter 3 and/or 4 is unusually short (4 would make sense, if it's just a finale)

Looking for a PS4 for Bloodborne next week. Any good deals I should know about before I buy one? Preferably a bundle with PS+?

To answer my own question:

Chapter 3 is more combat-based than exploration-based; lots of running around the bulk of the mansion, some tough fights, random encounters. You only access one new area, and it's basically just a series of locked doors.

Chapter 4 is a mostly linear run to the end of the game.

Completed Chapter two in seven-and-a-quarter hours; completed the whole game in ten-and-a-quarter hours.

I've got a bit of a hankering to re-visit Lemmings, which I've not played since the Mega Drive.

What's the best way to play it these days? Is the original game available on any Virtual Console equivalent, or is there a modern updated version that's worth a look? I have all three consoles, a 3DS, PC and smartphone, so am pretty easy for platform options.

Actually, the best - or at least, nicely convenient - version of the original Lemmings I've played of late was a homebrew port to the DS, but that's very much not official. Still, stylus control is pretty effective for the game.

In official terms, the rights have ended up with Sony. I think the last released version was on the PSP?

Battle.net question:

The classic games that they sell (Starcraft Anthology, Diablo 2, Warcraft 3), do they get added to the launcher if you buy them?

Is there ANY kind of COD Black Ops: Declassified direct video footage except for a split second in some Vita ad? Back then IIRC there were no TVout-equipped Vitas that reviewers could use and even the big outlets (at least GameTrailers) used camera footage. Something reminded me if that game and I'm curious how did it actually look, since those reviews were less than perfect for that.

It's available for PS3 according to Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemmings_%28video_game%29#Ports_and_remakes said:
2007, Team17 produced a similar remake of Lemmings for the Sony PlayStation 3 for download through the PlayStation Network. The game has the similar graphical improvements as the PSP title, as well as on-line scoreboards and additional levels developed for high-definition display, but lacks the ability to create and share levels as the PSP version offers.

And yeah, the Lemmings IP is owned by Sony.

I was thinking about selling a game on amazon via Trade-In Value, but before I do so, does amazon charge any kind of fee if I proceed with the trade in?

Nope! You'll get less if the condition is lower than the tier you pick, though. There is an option to have the game returned to you rather than the lower tier if you choose so. It's never happened to me but I think it's free shipping for the return. Shipping to them is free in the first place. You get paid in the form of credit on amazon

Okay that's awesome to know. Thanks!

Considering selling my 3DS XL and all my games in a nice big bundle.

But... the system came preloarded with Mario & Luigi Dream Team.. If I erase my profile data, will the preinstalled game still exist on the console for the next buyer?

Thanks~

Is the i3 2130 a decent CPU for casual gaming? It's for my little sisters, they don't plan on playing anything very recent (2014/2015) on it, but can it hold its own for as a lite workstation and watching some heavy Netflix/YouTube at 1080p?

Edit: 550Ti card by the way, and 4 gigs of RAM.

Guys, I am searching for a short (under five minutes, IIRC) Dark Souls YouTube clip, which I saw in 2013 or something.

It was a big mindfuck because you see those red enemies in there, which I did not saw my whole playthrough.

There was some Japanese music in the background that I loved!

I want it to bring back some memories. :)

Hi everyone! There is a Capcom sale currently in the Japanese PlayStation 3 Store that includes Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. My understanding is that the Japanese retail release of this game was developed internally at Capcom, includes additional features and is superior to the Iron Galaxy developed version. I'm not clear though which is the version being sold in the Japanese online store. I've Googled but haven't been able to find an answer. I appreciate if anyone can clear this up for me. Thank you!

how long does MLB The Show offer roster updates? Can I buy 14 and play with current rosters? Haven't played a console sports game in years so I have no clue how this works...

Ok, guys, every time I look at my shelves where I have my consoles, I can only see madness: cables madness. How the heck can I organize this disaster? I have these consoles plugged in: Nintendo 64, PS1, SATURN, DREAMCAST, PS2, XBOX, Wii, XBOX 360, PS3 and, the new addition to the family, Wii U. Plus a video recorder, a SCART to HDMI adapter and a HDD with external supply for the Wii U. I also have a similar problem with the controllers by the way, I do not know where to store them. For the moment, I keep them in an IKEA box. Sigh.

What could I do to improve my current set up (if you can call it like that)? I tried to tie the cables with this thing (I do not know the name!):
100_1638-.jpg

But no such luck. It works at first, but if you want to change a single cable or if two cables are plugged in different places (like one in the TV and the other in the socket) it becomes a nightmare. Then, I tried to stick them to the wall with tape, but it was even worse. They will eventually fall from their places and they are not specially aesthetic for a bedroom.

Any ideas? I took a look at the gaming set up thread and, while there are many great and beautiful ones, most of the time I cannot see how they have the cables. In the end, I only got jealous of some of your gaming places and houses!

I could take some photos of that part of my bedroom if necessary.

Posted this in another thread but it seemed to fall off the front quite fast.

I'm planning to upgrade my PS3 HDD soon (new one's in the mail and should get here tomorrow) but I need to backup the old drive. I've read all the steps, and know that I need to have a FAT32 formatted external drive for the backup. However, I can't do anything but NTFS or exFAT through Windows. Is there any way to do FAT32 on a large drive without downloading some other tool?

You shouldn't need to format your new drive first AFAIK, just pop it in, boot up the PS3 and you should be asked to format it.

Playing Chrono Trigger for the first time and I'm about to fight Lavos. Which method should I use: the bucket, the Epoch, or the Black Omen?
