This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Ok noob question here.

How do you get the dualshock 4 to work on PC? I checked it out a while back and apparently you need to download some software but that was like last year. Wondering if there is an easy way now?

I want to start using some games on my dualshock 4 rather than my 360 pad as my 360 pad just feels weird now!

I plugged it in and it installed a driver and tried a few games and no avail so I'm guessing a 3rd party application is still needed?

Always amazon.com, you can buy them at no mark-up. Are PC Game Supply those guys who pretend their prices are cool and then add six quid on at the checkout for no reason? Nobody should be supporting that kind of shit.

Can't sadly, Amazon says basically says it's not available in my country

And yeah, that markup is why I wanted to find somewhere else :(

I remember seeing a video of a blocky 3D fighting game (think PS1 era) with really glitchy physics where the characters would fly around the screen. It also had really funny winning poses/animations. Kind of like this this but for fighting games. Anyone know what game it is?

What does the word "bromide" mean when used in video game terms? I googled it and got a chemical compound however I see it used in a lot of games especially visual novels.

In Japan, bromide (ブロマイド), or promide (プロマイド) refers to a category of commercial photographic portraits of celebrities including geisha, singers, actors and actresses of both stage and film, and sports stars. The use of the term "bromide" or "promide" occurs regardless of whether bromide paper was actually used for the photograph.

So for the ps4, you don't actually play off the disc? You just use it once to install to the hard drive and never touch the disc again? How big is the average game install?

Is it possible to fill a PS4/XB1 HDD full with games by game sharing alone (bought none of them)?
After that, can we play those games forever without ever going online anymore?

You do need the disc, you install and you use the disc. I'd say your retail games are anywhere from 20 GB to 50 GB. TLoU was 46 GB digitally and they're typically the size of the entire game. I buy digitally. I do own ACIV, Puyopuyo Tetris, KillZone, and ACU physical editions and everything except Puyopuyo was around those sizes.

No, I'm pretty sure that won't work with a PS4. You must activate your console as the primary unit in order to play downloadable games offline. They want you to pay for their products.

Okay, just as expected. I just wanted to make sure.
Don't ask me where did I get the idea. :P
Thanks anyway.

As Tenrius says, just use a US address. You can get one from Borderlinx if you don't want to use a totally made-up one.

I'm from the UK and buy all my stuff from US PSN this way, so for sure it works.

Huh, first I've heard of Borderlinx, sort of looks like just what I need, from what I see, I might even be able to use my CC DIRECTLY on the account this way!

You guys may have just saved me a bunch of money, thanks alot :D

Edit: GAH @_@ Borderlinx doesn't have my country on their list either lol

Guess I'll try the fake address thing and see if it works :p

I have $2.03 worth of xbox "promotional points" which expire in 2 days. For some reason I cannot split a payment with this balance; I tried on 2 separate occasions and it errors out each time. I googled the error code and other people have the same problem. That said, does anyone have any recommendations for 360 that are $2.03 or less? I think I might be stuck with either avatar props *shudder* or like a random Rock Band 2 DLC track or something.

So let me make sure I understand this correctly...

I have a PS4 and I'm the primary account.

I bought my brothers a PS4 as well, and will be putting my account on there as one of the secondary accounts.

Will they have access to my PS+ (to play multiplayer), games I've purchased and downloaded onto their new console that I already have on my primary (like, can they play my copy of Destiny w/season pass and GTA V w/online)?

I don't need to be the temporary primary for that console right? And they can play my games and use online as long as my account stays on their console?

Tell me what genres of games you most like and I'll recommend a couple of dollar indie games which will blow your mind.

PulseONE, are you from a real country? Are you SURE? Borderlinx is literally just to get an address, don't actually use the service because it's expensive. You can easily set up an account in 90210 instead though, like about 40% of PSN accounts probably are.

thanks! might be easier to list what I don't like:

sports
RTS
fighting games
racing
high score games
multiplayer only games (like CoD or Titanfall... I play games for SP and story)

I'm not sure how much that really narrows it down, but this stuff's good. If there's any specific genre you'd like, let me know, it's worth trying the trials of any of these that you like the sound of, though.

2D platformer: Apple Jack 2
Puzzle: UpBot goes Up, Aesop's Garden
RPG: Cthulhu Saves the World
Rocket space lander type thing: Gravitron360

Leftfield recommendation: FlipSide

They do indeed have access to your PS+ games and they can play multiplayer online. I don't know what would happen if you both tried to play at the same time though, but I'm guessing that logging in with one of the systems would force the other one to log out.

I want to play VLR on vita but I haven't played the first game (999 on DS). Should I just read the plot on Wiki, or go in blind, in case I want to play 999 after? I'm not sure how much about 999 is spoiled in VLR anyway.

You would be doing yourself a massive disservice by playing VLR first. I personally prefer 999 over VLR to the point where if you could only play 1, I'd say 999. Technically you could play VLR first but you'll get so much more out of it if you play 999. Any way you can borrow someone's DS or 3DS, or play the iOS version? I don't know if that was good or not but it's gotta be better than skipping 999 completely.

The iOS version removed all the puzzles, making it a visual novel. I don't recommend playing it that way if you're playing for the first time. Solving the puzzles, especially some of the ones at the end, absolutely are vital to the experience. I'd recommend playing it on the DS if you can.

This is not a stupid question at all but I'm stuck on mobile so don't want to start a new thread.

I'm playing Hotline Miami and have gotten to 91% achievments (probably my favorite game in the last 5 years) but the most rent one I accomplished wont register/is bugged. It's the "Sounds of Aninals Fighting" trophy, the one that you have to wear every mask at least once. I just completed Chapter 1 with every single mask in my one sitting to no avail. Any advice? I /should be like 20 minutes away from my first platinum :/

P.s, my internet is out so I'm not on PSN, but multiple other trophies I unlocked still registered earlier

Are you sure you obtained every mask? The Playstation versions of the game have 27 masks.

If and when can we expect Bandai Namco (localization) news? I "need" at least five of their titles pretty soon to get my fix. Do they have their own events? e3?

Can the PS4 seriously not play ps1 games? I was about to buy some and read that it won't. That correct or something they going to change?

Yep, that's true. The PS4 can currently not play PS1, PS2 or PS3 games. I wouldn't be surprised if they added support for emulating digital games in the future, but I'm not expecting it to play PS1 discs. It can also not play music CDs.

With the PS Now service, you can rent from a library of 200+ PS3 games and play them on your PS4. Hopefully PS1 and PS2 games will be added in the future, and the sub fees become more reasonable.

Are there any 3rd Person Games that make use of the Frostbite 3 Engine? The only one I've found was PvZ: Garden Warfare. Are there more or is Frostbite more a thing for FPS Games?

That's a really interesting service and I look forward to trying it out once they launch in Europe. That being said, I hope they also give us the alternative to buy the games and run them locally instead. Porting the Vita's PS1 emulator shouldn't be very difficult and perhaps they will have time to do that now that they are done with implementing launch features (e.g. remote play and suspend/resume).

It's EA's in-house engine now, so pretty much everything they produce seems to be Frostbite now, including racing games and sports games. Not counting mobile. More coming down the line too:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frostbite_(game_engine)#Games_using_Frostbite

Yeah I know that it is EA's In-house Engine. The thought came up when I had a conversation with a friend regarding the new Star Wars Game on which Visceral seems to work after they finish Battlefield Hardline. Then we speculated what it will be, a First Person Game or a Third Person Game but we couldn't name a TPG only FPG which were made with EAs Frostbite Engine and because of that, my above question arose.

Am I the only one who actually prefers low-resolutions sometimes, because it feels more immersive? Like with Terraria I preferred the low-resolution because when I played with the highest resolution I lost that sense of exploring a massive cave of which you can only see a little. Anyone else out get that?

What you want is high resolution per area, not a zoomed out image. Higher resolution is always better, provided that the developers have implemented proper support for it. With smaller dev teams you often run into issues like the one you described or that the UI isn't responsive.

This makes sense, I thought about it when I tried the Heroes 3 HD mod today, and it zooms out the image for higher resolutions, which just feels like less immersion for me.

Heroes of Might and Magic III uses 2D art assets which are best viewed at a fixed resolution. Modern games generally use 3D assets and textures (even for many 2D games) which makes them more suitable to be rendered at different resolutions.

Just because you mentioned Terraria, Starbound works the same way with a larger area visible around your character at higher resolutions but has an option to zoom in on yourself if you don't like it. So there's at least some people that prefer it!

Not a question but a stupid tip do not deserve its own thread:
The way to access to your PS4 download list through your PS4
Play DOA5LR or Core Fighters (is free)

Go to PlayStation store inside the game:

You will see your DOA5 purchases:

TNRauJN.jpg

press home button

Go inside again
And there it is:

I prefer this over library.

I've had a question for more than 15 years...

Game Boy Color american boxes and cartridges had this little "Only for Game Boy Color" in the lower right weirdly designed... I mean compred to the Euroland version which seems more homogeneous. Is there a reason for that ?

My Wii U is having just AWFUL interference for the wiimote. Is there anything that I can do to clean it up? I have to stand in one spot of the room (I cant sit cause it jumps all over the place then) to play it. Button presses are fine, Mario Kart controls are fine, but the pointer bit is just bad. I assume this is something to do with the IR? I have tried several times to move the bar to a different location to no success. I have tried above the TV and below (at two different levels).

Is there something that I can just not seeing? There is some glass in our TV stand, could that be causing it? It doesn't sit behind glass at all. just above it when it is set below the TV.

What is the window layout in the room? The sun will mess with the pointer. Also do you have other reflective surfaces around the room? The sensor bar has the IR LEDs, and the Wiimote has a sensor that sees them. A glass cabinet on one side of the room shouldn't matter, but if the sun is at your back and reflecting off the cabinet you can run into issues.

You probably have an IR source somewhere near the TV (or maybe reflecting onto the TV glass). Could be a lamp or something.

Have you tried tweaking the sensitivity of the wiimote?

Oh Boy.

Ass Creed is based on the completely scientific bullshit idea that your DNA contains the memories of your ancestors. It's kinda like the Matrix. You sit on a chair and and you relive memories in this computer generated world.

The main thrust of the series is about the Assassin's Order and their centures old fight with the Templar Order. These guys want to control the world and are like the illuminati. In the older games, you live through these memories to learn about how to find a bunch of ancient artifacts.

The over arcing plot of the first 4 games finished before Black Flag. Black Flag kinda stalls a lot if the real world stuff so I can see it being super confusing.

The whole series goes into a bunch of crazy directions. There is a whole lot of other stuff that I don't even know how to explain.
