Ok I feel kinda stupid asking this, but I've known someone for a few years now and we always acknowledge each other and we'll chat for a bit when we see each other at works. We're both late 20's and male. But I really want to be friends with them outside of those short meet-ups, but I don't know how to go about asking.

I just think it feels silly to go up and say "Hey there, wanna be friends?". I don't know how to properly go about doing it.

Any suggestions?

"Fancy a pint?" The pub is where real friends are made.

I have managed to avoid using powerpoint for school for a long time, but I am finally forced to make one. I remember being able to individually animate each bullet point of text to come in one at a time, but now I can't seem to figure it out. I'm using Office 2007 anyone care to share PPT knowledge?

As someone who knows very little about picture settings, is there anyway to self calibrate an LCD HDTV? My set (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4605334&CatId=4420) is unsurprisingly not a discussed TV on AVS forum, so I was unable to find any useful info pertaining to my set there. Does anyone have any suggestions, because right now my screen looks like ass when playing games compared to my 40 inch samsung.
I usually just leave it on "Standard" settings, and put the color temperature on normal or warm. Looks good and accurate enough for games and movies.

One more question: why do 360/ps3 games when viewed on an LCD monitor at the distance one would normally play a PC have so many more jaggies/look generally less crisp than PC games do at the same resolution such as 1280x720?

You could probably get one going right now if you make a thread.
This will be my first time to participate so I don't think I will be the right person to host it.

I would really appreciate it if you do it or ask one of the guys that usually take care of it to start a new one for us.

Has anyone else noticed that reduced fat snack crackers (particularly wheat thins and cheez its) just flat out taste better than their regular counterparts?

They're crunchier and less oily, and more or less have the same taste.

It's been a while, but I remember the Night remake being decent. He stayed true to the original and didn't add a whole lot. I'd rather just watch the original, but it is not bad.

Day "remake" is nothing like the original, and is really terrible. I've erased it from conscious memory, but I remember it was not worth watching.

For reference compared to other less than well-received recent zombie flicks, I really enjoyed Undead, and thought Flight of the Living Dead was entertaining. I thought Land was ok, but was pissed all the way through Diary. Maybe if a director I'd never heard of made Diary, I could have enjoyed it, but I expected so much more.

I'm a little late in replying, but thanks! Will check the Night remake and ignore the Day one. Regarding semi-recent zombie movies, I've seen Undead liked it, didn't like Land that much, thought Diaries had it's moment. Best I've seen lately was [REC].

Is there any way I can fix my 360 VGA cable? It's ms brand and it works except it only processes blue and green, no red. I've eliminated other possibilities, it can only be the cable. They're hard to find and a bit expensive so if anyone has any ideas that'd sure be swell.

Awesomely stupid question:

Who is this rather popular person?

OK, first of all, Anaxagoras, is that Peter Griffin in your avatar? If so, please tell me where to find a full-size version ASAP.

Second, I have a question regarding Calvin and Hobbes: Calvin sees Hobbes as an anthropomorphic tiger with a real thinking intelligent personality; as a real person. In reality of course Hobbes is nothing more than a stuffed animal, as witnessed from every other person apart from Calvin. Doesn't the comic strip then imply that Calvin might be mentally deranged since he sees and hears things that no one else can and in fact, taking into account his young age, that these will only intensify in the future and it is more than likely that Calvin will end up in a mental hospital? Also, the fact that no one has noticed this and thus no proper medical care has been prescribed for Calvin leaving him to his derangements gives this comic strip a pretty dark overtone I think, am I overthinking this GAF?

W7 doesn't seem to be letting me set customised preview thumbnails on any new folders I create or introduce. I searched around, and could only find this guy who had the same problem.

Anyone know what's up?

You're overthinking. Waterson was playing off the fact that pre-teens sometimes have imaginary friends. Of course Calvin takes it to extremes but its for comedic effect. Plus you gotta keep in mind .. even though the strip's run went from the 80s into the mid 90s, it was still a much different time .. depression, pills, and psycho-analatical mumbo jumbo wasn't being pushed down our throats all the time and Columbine and other school shootings were practically unheard of.

I didn't participate in the last one, and probably wouldn't in the next one either. I just know it was a popular deal. But:

My father's old PC still uses Windows 2k, and I don't know how he did it, but at some point something called Windows Address Book started opening on startup. From what I've read it is a legitimate part of Win2k (wab.exe) but I can't figure out how to stop it from opening. It's more of an annoyance than anything for him, since he has to close it every time he starts the PC, but it'd be nice to figure out how to stop it.

A little beyond just one program but I have found this utility very useful in the past. It will list every scheduled to run at at startup and let you disable them: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

They have a lot of other cool utilities as well.

Hobbes is real. I don't know if you ever saw the move Drop Dead Fred (Phoebe Cate movie from the early early 90s) but it's a good movie to watch if you want to wrap your head around the idea.

I've been looking to buy an external hard drive, the problem i've been running into while looking up the best rated ones on Amazon is that when I read the reviews I see a bunch of great ones, then read about alot of peoples hard drive's malfunctioning after a short while or so, the impression I got was that it happened alot and the customer support for them wasn't that great either. I also wondered if maybe the reason was that alot of these people move their hard drives around alot, I wouldn't be doing that, mines would pretty much just stay in a drawer until I needed it. So can anyone recommend a really good one for about $80? Space isn't THAT much of a concern as long as it's at least 320 GB.
I too need a new external hard drive and want to hear some good brands. Someone recommended Western Digital. What is the consensus here on the best manufacturer(s) of external hard drives?

Anyone? I'm going to Best Buy in 30 minutes.

WesternDigital and Seagate have both been fine for me/my family. Hell, even my Fantom is holding up well so far.

I'd say any major name is gonna have the best (but not perfect) rate of good drives. A lot are identical/near identical under the hood anyway.

Young kids don't differentiate between fantasy and reality very well. I know I had to explain to my daughter that cartoons were drawn and we wouldn't see anyone who looked like them in real life. My imaginary friend was a cartoon shark, and he was visible to me (in my mind) and I didn't think anything of it.

Where the heck did all these stylized hand drawn pokemon avatars come from?

Some guy made an entire pokedex (I think) in this art style, it was on gaming side a week or two ago.

is there some joke about this character in Community not being able to eat properly with a fork? I think I've seen a couple of avatars like this...

So i got into a little fender bender last month. it was sort of my fault but didn't cause much damage, so the other driver and i agreed not to involve the insurance and that i'll just pay his bill. the other car got a couple of minor scratches (about 2-3 inches each, not that noticeable unless you look up close. i would have taken a picture but it was very dark). Anyway, the guy calls me today and says that the bill came up to $300. is that a reasonable charge for something so minor?

Which part of his car was damaged? Is he getting a new part or just painting the hit one? Seems reasonable as painting a body panel is usually somewhere between 150-250. Or you can talk to his auto body person to find out for sure

Ask him for the estimate, also it may be better to pay it as the money he is saving you in the future on car insurance will easily surpass that amount.

300 is pretty cheap considering there may be damage to the frame, and other stuff that is not immediately visible.

i literally just slightly touched him. i doubt there is any damage to the frame or the body... i thought it'd come to 200 max, but i guess 300 is still better than the insurance

This is gaming related, but it fits this topic.

So I'm new to HD TV. I have a 1080p and I go between my PS3 and 360 quite often, the PS3 automatically changes the resolution to 720p when I'm playing a game or watching Netflix but on the 360 it's always 1080p. It doesn't seem to look much different but I'm wondering if there's an option to make it automatic on the 360.

360 has an option "Optimal Resolution" above 480p I believe... I'd guess it more or less would do what the ps3 does and just display whatever you're playing/viewing in it's native resolution rather than scaling everything to 1080p.

Why do alot of people who post about here seem to really hate girls?

And also whats with the weird banning fixation. Sometimes this place seems like a tank of piranhas with aspergers.

The JD fantasy that this inspired was hilarious. Thank you very much.
