Since I'm a nerd on a gaming board, I might likewise ask "If Super Mario Galaxy evolved from 2D Mario platformers, why do we still have new 2D Mario platformers? And for that matter what the hell gave birth to Super Paper Mario?"

Adaptations don't tend to happen species-wide. It's usually that different groups of the same species have ended up in different environments that causes their adaptations to favor different traits, which accumulate until they're no longer the same.

Well said.

A lot of the fundamental misunderstanding about evolution seems to stem from a lack of understanding about the processes of natural selection and adaptation.

Well what do they call dill potatoe chips? Dill chips. Then chocolate covered potatoe chips would be chocolate chips. Right?

why not cedar chips? Or chips used in a card game? Why is potato chip the norm?

Here's a question:

Why did a lot of TV shows in their intros seem to always have one of the main characters names listed out? Such as in these examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHKvruzbWl4 - Dennis Haskins as Mr. Belding

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLDIavOM1wM - Jaleel White as Steve Urkel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCULOyIfx5s&feature=related - Ann B. Davis as Alice.

These all seemed like pretty important characters that we all would know anyways.

Im not sure what your asking here?

I think this was asked a page or 2 back... maybe its slightly different

When someone asks you "where are you from?" are you supposed to say where you were born or where you spent the most time growing up or where you live now?

Hey! How come none of you answered this question?

It's probably something hashed out with the actors or their agents. It tends to be that the highest-profile people are listed either first, or last with a "as suchandsuch" credit. Nobody wants to be a middle child of the credits.

Simple you say I grew up in...and I'm now living in...(if different from where you were born.)
If they want to know your heritage they'll usually ask where your parents were born or something like that.
Pretty straightforward stuff dude :lol

If i plug in an external HDD on the PS3, will it be accessible (read/write) from my computer with the proper network setup?

I have an electric air pump that plugs into the accessory outlets in a car. I had a needle in, but when I tried to pull it out, the thin needle part came out, but not the needle head. So now, it's stuck in there, and I can't pump up my bike tires. Is there any way to get the other piece out? I tried jarring it loose and sucking it out with my mouth (lol) to no avail. I can't take the pump fixture apart, so if I can't get that piece out, the thing is worthless.

What does the interface the mods use to ban people look like? I've been curious about this for a while. I wonder if maybe there isn't something in it that encourages more bans, like a blood-red background or the Badger Song or something.

best question of the thread. what if when a mod signs into neogaf it all of a sudden becomes this crazy ass portal with links to every good site and has msn built in and all sorts of crazy banning tools and colours. BLACK coloured theme.

I don't know...maybe because you're right-handed, you tend to put larger force on your right hand? Can anyone answer? :lol

it's not the reason because if you grab a cart and push it, it will go on for a while and steer to the left. I tried with seven carts and they all have this bizarre glitch

It's funny how they say guys are "visual" while chicks are more about "personality"

Yet he minute I get fit and cut up, chicks start talking, flirting, etc.

Stupid double standards

I'm asking this in OT for some reason...

What games to get for x360 (Disc and/or that online thingie)?
Just bought a 60 gig one, won't unbox it until NXE update, already got the following games (don't ask, just bought them over the year):
Forza2/Vava Pinata bundle
Bioshock
Lost Odyssey
DOAXtreme 2
EDF 2017
Orange Box
Crackdown
Gears Of War
Dead Rising
Lost Planet
GTAIV

what else is recommended?

You fool! Per GAF tradition, the correct response to Fordzilla's question is "FHUTA!"

Or so I hear.

Disk-based Games:

Fable 2
Gears of War 2
Prince of Persia (Next month.)
Mirror's Edge (Maybe. See if you like the demo.)
Halo 3
Call of Duty 4 (Haven't played it yet myself because I dislike military games, but player feedback indicates it's very good.)
Burnout Paradise
Fallout 3
Dead Space
Devil May Cry 4
Ninja Gaiden 2
Soul Calibur 4
Oblivion
Mass Effect

Xbox Live Arcade Games:

Rez HD
N+
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Geometry Wars and/or Geometry Wars 2
Sonic The Hedgehog and/or Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Smash TV
Street Fighter II
Ultimate MK3
Doom
Marathon: Durandal

Obviously this is a matter of taste, but as long as you're into the genres represented by these recommendations, you really can't go wrong with any of them. I'll edit later if I think of any more must-haves.

Why can't mute people talk by just whispering? Doesn't that just involve breathing and moving your tongue/lips?

Is there a "run" button in Fallout 3? Or anything that will help you move around faster at all?

I'm too scared to ask this in the official thread. It's my first Bethesda game.

How are Grid and Assassins Creed? Worth giving them a try or better skip?

I know nothing about Grid, but Assassin's Creed I absolutely love. It has an uncommonly good story and great production values. I was very much drawn into the role of the titular assassin Altair. You know, I've never understood the hate Assassin's Creed gets on GAF. I won't deny that some of the intelligence gathering missions are repetitive if you choose to rush through the storyline in a linear fashion. However, if you take the more sensible approach of slowing down long enough to enjoy the ambiance of each city--do a little exploring and sightseeing (and trust me, there are some magnificent sights to see)--it's a really absorbing game. Assassinations with Altair's concealed hand blade never, ever get old, and if you own an HDTV prepare for a visual treat. Hell, AC looks amazing on even a midsized SDTV. You should definitely check it out.

does anybody still have the image meme "Time to slay the dragon" featuring a yuppy on a cellphone? i want it for my monster hunter sessions.

Why do they put the “do not turn upside down” signs on the bottom of boxes?

Because the business end of a box is only held together with packing tape, so the force of the contents hitting against that could spring the box open and smash your lovely new TV on the floor.

Without any research, you can make out the sound of a voice in a whisper, so I'd have to disagree with it just being breathing.

Or, since they have never learned to speak, whispering could just be a concept they cannot grasp or are incapable of learning. Babys don't whisper and then mumble, similar to how you don't walk and then crawl. Whispering is probably more difficult to do than we realize.
