I've been wanting to pick up a tablet too, but I think I'm just gonna try out a cheapy first, like in the $70-100 range. I don't know how easy it would be to draw without actually seeing the picture underneath my hand like I would on paper, but I guess you'd get used to it? I just know I can't draw with a mouse because I'm lefthanded and it doesn't work so well, so I guess a tablet is my next best option.

Yeah, that sounds best, I guess. If it is bought used, it could be re-sold at about the same price, maybe even more, if you don't like it.

I'll probably look around a little more and see.

How come stores who present HDTV's don't actually put the resolution in HD? That's kinda missing the point.

Obviously so that people can point and laugh at you when you say "Oh my, the picture quality sure is much better on this television!"

Probably because it's cheaper and easier to use 1 signal for all their 4801/p, 720p, and 1080i/p televisions can accept, than to use separate signals. People'll still say it looks better, usually.

Really?

I've noticed that they use an HD signal fed from a single machine. Maybe it depends on the store/area.

When I went TV shopping I had to ask them to put on an SD image. Surprisingly enough, the salesperson just had to hit a button to change inputs on the TV and switch to an SD version of the same thing that was on the TV before. This was at a Best Buy in Toronto.

I sharked around to look at their cabling, and eventually traced their TVs back to a single box with a VGA cable connected to it leading back into the "Employees Only" area.

Have a question regarding file renaming.

I have an mp3 program that makes it really easy to rename stuff, you double click and change the tag info, then click 'save and next' to move to the next file. Is there any program where i can do this with other filetypes? I have the whole of Lost downloaded and want to rename all the files to the episode names, but its annoying having to right click and go to "rename'' on every single one. Any good programs to make this easier?

What operating system? I'm fairly sure that for most you could look up a renaming script, or make one yourself if you're technically competent.

For years i've used The Rename. Works on any file format, and those with metadata (MP3s, JPEGs, etc.) it can write that data to the file name. IIRC it has a preview function which is best to use the before running a batch rename on tons of files, especially when you're first starting to use the program. Or you could copy the files to a folder and run the batch operation on the copies.

You can also try searching for renaming software. Blogs like Download Squad and Life Hacker have featured renaming apps, and the comments for those sites (particularly the latter) generally reveal some other programs or ideas that i've never heard or thought of.

I have a Wacom Intuos 3 that has served me well. It was within that price range and is a good size.

i have a renaming tool that someone made for me at work. Simple quick program written in Java. You'll need Microsoft Excel though. Basically you install an Excel plugin that extracts all the filenames from a folder. Save the Excel as a .txt file then run the Java renaming tool. I havent tried any other tools out there from the web, but this gets the job done pretty easily.

PM me if your interested and i'll look for it when im on my other computer.

Well, I guess, but I am kind of interested in whether or not people prefer a screen or the features. Also, I figured that maybe it is easy to get used to not having a screen, to the point that you wouldn't benefit too much from having one later on... and in that case, there'd be little to no point in getting a screen in a tablet.

Also, if I had the money, I'd get a screen like that with little to no hesitation. However, I only have 80 dollars (and soon a little more after selling stuff) so yeah...
What are you going to use the tablet for? If it is for serious art work then definitely go for he feature filled option. The cheap tablet screens just don't cut it especially being so innacurate and without pressure sensitivity. I suggest getting an Intuos as the bamboos are kinds bad.

I like how the theme grows after you beat a stage, too. Good job!
Thank you so much! ^_^

How has GAF gone about fixing their internal clock? This summer I've become particularly lazy and, if left to my own devices, will sleep from sunrise to sunset.
..Which is a shame because I love breakfast.

Was it on some massive sale or something? That one looks pretty sweet, but the cheapest I'm seeing is $200+.

Why don't birds get shocked, when they land on powerlines.

Electricity passes through an object when there is a difference of potential (meaning a change in voltage.)

A bird that lands on a single wire with both legs provides no difference of potential. The wire has just one voltage running through it, so the bird would not be shocked. If for any reason the bird say stood on two power lines at once, that would kill it instantly. Grounding would also kill the bird.

That's why as an electrician its very important to know if you're grounded or not. With proper protection you could put a power line in your mouth and suffer no ill effects.

GAF, how do I turn off that stupid warning that pops up whenever I want to post a pic here. It warns about the website using scripted windows, and you have to click it to temporarily allow scripted windows. I want to just allow that shit permanantly (preferably on this site only) so that I don't have to do that each time.

I searched internet options > advanced tab, and couldn't find anything that sounded right.

Probably because she's doing the voiceover for that character/whatever it is in the movie?
War Machine is Tony Stark's friend, Jim Rhodes, in an Iron Man suit. So... that's very unlikely.

Not sure if this is just limited to the US, but why do a lot of Americans have greater affinity for Che Guevara than communist leaders like Lenin, Mao, or Castro?

Anyone? :( Using IE8.

Definitely not limited to the US. In fact it's far more prevalent in some S.American countries. Less so than several years ago though.
It's because people latch onto trends without thinking. They don't realize that if he had been alive and active today, people would view him in a very very different light.
Same way people rock shirts with mao related stuff on it despite the fact that mao made hitler look like a warm and friendly guy.

Well, I could understand him being a pop culture icon in S. America considering his nationality, but in the US? Why him and not the other ones who have had way more impact on the communist movement? Or maybe you're right and it's more of a trendy thing than anything else.

There is no way in hell that Mao could be anywhere as bad as Hitler much less be worse than him.

As for Che, in my opinion there's many reasons. First off he died young. That's an instant popularity boost for anyone because you don't get the chance to disappoint people, have them grow tired of you or generally become old and unpopular especially since he died a violent death at the hands of the great imperialist enemy which adds a special mystique.

Secondly he looks good on a T-shirt.

Thirdly Che has become a pop culture icon, aided by him being young and handsome when he was famous, while the other big communist icons where quite old and removed by the time they rose to fame and power.

Can someone tell me why Olivia Munn is listed as War Machine on IMDB for Iron Man 2?

It's a joke:

Variety reports that Olivia Munn, host of G4’s “Attack of the Show,” has landed an unspecified role in “Iron Man 2,” currently filming with director Jon Favreau at the helm. While her part in the movie remains unclear, some guesses have been made by fans and websites alike — many of which have been addressed by the actress herself.

Munn is a frequent Twitter user, and she has utilized the social networking site in conjunction with the latest “Iron Man 2? news. The first hint she’s provided about her role is that “it is definitely a bigger role than ‘big stan,’” implying that she’ll have a larger part to play than one of Stan Lee’s typical small-sized cameos.

Next, Munn refuted speculation from the Slash Film gang that she’d be playing a television personality in the “Iron Man” sequel, much like her true-to-life day job. The actress said that she is “not playing a reporter. but that’s all i can say.”

Apparently, that’s not all she could say. After hours of badgering from her Twitter followers, Munn finally gave up the goods on who she’d be playing in the Marvel movie — War Machine himself herself!

“Yes, spoiler. I am playing the role of War Machine in Iron Man 2,” she wrote. “Terrance Howard, Don Cheadle and now Olivia Munn!”

Moral of the story? Munn is likely to stay mum on her role until she’s given the go-ahead from the folks at Marvel Studios. In all likelihood, we’ll have to wait until the first official footage from the film debuts — or heck, even until the movie itself premieres.

Thanks a lot. Makes sense about the youth factor. Most people who picture Lenin, Mao, etc. in their youthful image are probably really old now and their older faces are more recognizable to the rest of the world.

You need to read up on the man (and im not talking about wiki reading) especially about the great leap forward era. As a jewish man, I of course look at Hitler with more scorn that other mass murdering leaders throughout history. But various historians but mao's death toll at anywhere from 30 million to 70 million. His absurd hatred for intellectuals, scholars, and intelligent people in general lead to more social issues and disasters than I could ever hope to list here.

It's more complicated than that. Although his reactionary response to his critics are reprehensible and his economic programs were for the most part counter-productive, the problem of modernizing a nation of 1 billion+ of mostly uneducated farmers and workers was not an easy task, especially with lack of international support from either Soviet or Allied bloc, and having to deal with natural disasters and neighboring nations' wars.

EDIT: population numbers are wrong, but you get the idea.

Well yeah, its always more complicated than that. All I know is, the shear horror and despair the chinese population went through during his attempt to "make things better" is mind boggling. His strive to attain his idea of a perfect nation at the expense of ten's of millions of human lives is chilling.

In the song "Wild Wild West" by Will Smith, the lyrics are:

Now who ya gonna call?
Not the G.B.'s
Now who you gonna call?
*G double E G*

GBs are obviously the Ghostbusters, but what the heck is a GEEG?
