The song "We Are Free Now" from the Gladiator soundtrack -- seems credited to only Zimmer and another vocalist on the official soundtrack, but a million youtube videos and google searches yield Enya's name being attached to the track.

Did she cover it later? Did she actually compose and perform the original? I need to know who originally crafted this beautiful song.
People think any beautiful song with serene vocals is automatically Enya... :lol It seems the whole Gladiator OST was a collaboration between Zimmer, Klaus Badelt and Lisa Gerrard.

I think the real question is why people feel the need to label songs with who they WANT to have written the song, rather than who actually did. While doing a quick Google, I noticed some people even noted it down as "Lisa Gerrard (Enya)," even though she's not Enya and has no relation to Enya. Very odd behavior indeed...

How safe is a 16' Uhaul truck? I'm going to be stuck in the cab for 6 hours to and fro this weekend.

The trucks are built like bricks, made to take all kinds of abuse. Make sure you don't damage the storage space over the cab (pulling into somewhere with a low overhang), your insurance won't cover the damage and u-haul will charge you an arm and a leg for the repairs.

Lol, yeah I never understood this shit either. If you want people who search "Enya" to be introduced to that song, then that's what tags are for. For the longest time I thought Bam Bam (oftentimes incorrectly referred to as "What a Bum") was performed by Lady Saw. I always thought it was a complete departure from everything I'd heard of Lady Saw's. Basically it was the only song of her's I liked. Later I'd find out the reason for this was it wasn't Lady Saw. People still do exactly what you describe though. It makes no sense and is a slap in the face of the person that actually performed it.

I mean not only are they crediting Lady Saw, while obviously being aware the real artist is Sister Nancy, they are also showing a Lady Saw slide show.

Is it absolutely necessary to get your wisdom teeth removed if they've growing straight down ($2,400 is a lot to a college student)?

Yeah, my wisdom teeth are about halfway through at the moment (I'm assuming), and as far as I can tell they're coming in fine. People keep telling me I should see a dentist anyway, I guess it couldn't hurt to get a checkup.

When I play Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat on my MacBook, certain environments and squad members are made up of black textures.

On the whole it runs okay but I do get black textures quite frequently.

How can I fix that?

MacBook early 2008 version: 2.1Ghz Core 2 Duo, Penryn. 4GB Ram, Intel GMA X3100 graphics card.

It is the Mac version that I'm playing under OS X (not the Windows version vis Boot Camp).

GFX driver issues? All signs point that way after googling 'CoD4 Black Texture Issue'

Do you know how to update graphics drivers on a Mac?? I have no idea.

I think it's part of the overall 'Software Update' if updated drivers are available. It's under the Apple menu. 'I'm a PC' so I'm not 100% sure.

how do I back up the drivers on my PC (graphics, sound, network, etc) so that when this rig finally crumbles I can reinstall windows without having to go on a fucking guessing-game hunt on the internet?

What's a good alternative to photobucket? I use tinypic on occasion, but an account based system would be preferable.

On that note, I learned just why people who refuse to rehost their own images are jerks. Some dude took one of my .gifs and used it as his sig on some forum called fiveeightforums.com without rehosting it and broke my bandwidth for the month. I haven't done in the four years I've been using my photobucket account. My account is private, so it was someone from here, too....Grr.

How do I make a hotlink just a word. I know to use a href everywhere else, but it doesn't work here. I want to post a smarmy link without having to post the url for all to see.

In firefox, you can drag pics from the brower directly into a folder, yet it's only as big as it appeared when you dragged it so thumbnails stay thumbnail size. Any way to set it so the picture saves in its original size?

Oi, I don't have any PS3 and I'm lost here.

I want to look at a specific PSN ID from a friend. Wanna check if he really bought G.I. Joe :lol

I know there is a way to check that exactly like on 360. How?

Shaking my head.

I know now that this is correct, but before I knew it, I always read "smh" as "so much hate". I still prefer this interpretation; it works 90% of the time, whether it be in a disappointed tone in regards to someone else's "hate", or an expression of one's own.

Two questions:

1. How is it that an HD video game can fit onto a regular DVD disc, but an HD movie can't?

2. I guess I can post this in the District 9 thread, but I'll kill two birds with one stone and ask here. In the District 9 teaser trailer, is the close-up of the prawn's face animatronic or CGI?

Thanks.

1. A. Most "HD" games aren't actually rendered in HD rather they are upscaled.
B. An HD game is made up of multiple assets/sound/textures/animations/meshes and so on which is compressed and then unpacked when needed. HD Videos are huge because of the there bitrate and are uncompressed.

The games procedurally render their HD images - the resolution the game system outputs is not related to the size of what's on the disc. Games typically use textures when rendering their images, which are basically just image files. HD movies need to hold hours of HD encoded video, which takes up a lot more space.

Also DVD players don't have the horsepower to decode the codecs used to pack HD video so tightly.

A question of my own I'd be shocked to get an answer to: How come if I put honey on top of cream cheese, the cream cheese "cracks". Do it, it's weird, but doesn't affect it at all.

I'm thinking about doing some PC repair on the side soon to bring in a little extra cash. So I have a couple questions.

What antivirus/spyware/adware utility should I use? Any other useful utility programs?

If I need to order parts which sites are best?

Tool wise what do I need? Should I invest in a voltmeter?

These are all the ones I can think of off the top of my mind. Let me know if there is anything else to consider.

Why, psychologically, do humans enjoy the smell of their own farts, despite the fact that they might not smell any different from others'? There cannot possibly be an evolutionary explanation!
Creationism confirmed?

Holy shit. I thought I was the only one who enjoyed their own farts while not being able to stand an identical fart by someone else. There has to be an explanation.

I don't. Am I not human? :(

So I am a new Xbox 360 owner interested in the ability to install/preload a disc's data to the hard drive to make for faster loading and less DVD drive use. However, I've heard of some cases where a game that already used the combination of disc and hard drive cache well can actually end up SLOWER once installed. Is there some list online one could check to see if a game is particularly helped or hurt with this feature?

This should help, although it hasn't been updated since 2008. Still, I'm pretty sure all recent titles are prepped to install.

ahh this was always fun. usually I just guess the wifi card, and from there its pretty easy. but I know there are some programs that back it up for you. Double Driver and DriveMax, google them and see which one you prefer.

Hi, I have a grammar question.

If I'm writing about a company, do I treat it as a singular entinty or a group of employees.

For example:

Apple have announced a new iPhone
Apple has announced a new iPhone

Which is correct?

I know Japanese people have trouble pronouncing the letter L. Instead they pronounce it like an R. According to the stereotype, Chinese people do it the other way around, they pronounce the R as an L. True or not?

So my gf absolutely wants this stupid shirt from xbl avatar marketplace but she has no points on her account. If I buy her one with my account, will she be able to dress with it? She doesn't want to buy points for just that.

From what I hear, avatar clothes can only be used by the avatar of the account that bought the clothes. So if you bought a shirt on your account, only you could use it.

Okay, so in Liar, Liar Jim Carrey is talking with his receptionist, and is forced to admit that he could have given her a raise but simply didn't want to. She then recounts a story of a burglar injuring himself "on the job", saying that he was awarded $6,000, and asking him if that is justice. Carrey says "No... I would've gotten him 10." As she leaves he yells after her that he misunderstood the question.

Did he lie? Or are we to imagine he literally didn't understand the question?
