Goddamnit, some question popped into my head this morning and I was all "I'll go ask it in that gaf thread!"

I don't remember what it was though...

can someone explain the scoring system of tennis?

why is the first and second point 15, then the third 10, then the final 5?

also why is 0 = love? ty
There are a couple of theories, but the one I've heard most often is that the points were marked like minutes on a clock face, with 60 signifying a game win. 'Love' is supposedly a bad pronunciation of 'l'oeuf' - French for egg, as the zero looks like an egg. I'm not sure how much I buy these theories - there are more that are very different, but these are the reasons I've heard most often.

Why call American football "football" if the ball is in a player's hand 98% of the time?

.04% of the time, the ball is spent touching a foot -- the other 1.6% in the air.

They should call it airball.

Quick search on Wikipedia:
Primitive forms of rugby, then all covered by the name "football", were being played in the USA as far back as the 1840s, at Harvard, Yale and Princeton, stemming partly from Americans who had been educated in English schools.[8] The history of American football can be traced to early versions of rugby football and association football (called soccer in the United States). Both games have their origins in varieties of football played in the United Kingdom in the mid-19th century, in which a ball is kicked at a goal and/or run over a line.

I heard they are all filthy rich. And they hang out with EvilLore in a Gentlemen's Club where they discuss Wittgenstein, wear monocles and sip the best scotch.

In the new PS3 is now 299 commercial, i don't know if it has been previously stated, but did anyone notice the shirt he was wearing was the keyboard cat shirt?

I just watched the commercial and it kinda surprised me.

Anyone know where I can get a decent remote desktop program and a way to send files to my downstairs pc fast because re-downloading every patch for WoW again not to mention Aions 9GB client will be brutal.

LogMeIn is a good free remote desktop, works with a dedicated client or through a web browser. As for the second question... Do you mean through the Internet or what? The fastest method will always be either local LAN or a portable drive.

To answer the question in a non-comedic and boring way, the child could take on some of the recessive traits of the family gene pool not evident in either parent's appearance.

If you have an identical twin sister, you are a girl. Or you wouldn't be identical twins. And girls can't impregnate girls.

Actually, I believe I read something a while ago that said that doctors have managed to impregnate a woman with the egg from another woman.

Either tbh. We used to have a program that I could view what the person downstairs was doing (some amusing times with that ill tell you:lol ) and also we could send files at like 10meg a sec but it just died oneday and I never figured out what went wrong.

I would just use a usb drive but the biggest I have is 4G so not really an option there, hows it work via Lan?

Question:

If you have sex in a bar/pub (18 year restriction) with a minor in the USA, could I be prosecuted? Or is it possible to try to make the pub/bar guilty?

What is the deal with "trophies" on PS3? (And I guess XBox has "achievements"...same thing?)

If I'm playing a game and I kill a monster, a little box pops open to tell me, "Congratulations, you have won the 'Monster Killer' trophy!" If my character drinks a glass of water, I get, "Congratulations, you have won the 'Water Drinker' trophy!" Aside from breaking my immersion in the game, what's the point? Does it have to do with online gaming? 'Cause I don't play online. Can you turn off trophies?

I love how you start that question as a hypothetical ("if you had sex") and then you progress to making it much more personal ("could I be prosecuted").

Is $90 a good deal for a used Intuos2 12x12 without the stylus or mouse? This will be my first tablet. I was thinking about Graphires in the $60 range, but this tablet seems so much better than a Graphire. Will the stylus be that much more of an expense? I think I can do without the mouse.

Depends on your rdpclip.exe application. If it doesn't work, kill this application from your task list and then reconnect to your session.

Is there a site out there that's anything like the old foshata?

For those that don't remember, it gave you small snippets of a foreign film that you got to add the subtitles to.

EDIT: Well I guess I found it myself!

Do women have any sort of saying to let others know they have camel toe (like when a guy's fly is down, another guy can give him the "Hey, barn door's open."

I was at work function and this chick wearing kind of tight white pants have some obscenely mesmerizing camel toe going on - I literally must have glanced at it 100 times during the 6 hours I was there.

It is basically a reward so your e-peen can extend even more.

Usually they put in rather okey Achivements/Trophies, which makes it feel more like a reward for completing a challenge. But nowdays, it has turned into more of a "Let's place them in here for almost every little thing!"

And no. You can't turn them off.

Can you use the bluetooth headset that comes with Warhawk on a normal cell phone? I understand I will probably have to sync it back and forth if I want to use it on both my phone and ps3.

If that doesn't work, are there any bluetooth headsets out there that work on both a video game system and a cell phone? I just bought a car with bluetooth and not holding a phone up to my ear makes the gf's hourly phone calls a lot less annoying.

Performance wise, is 2 gig of DDR 400 the same as 1 gig of DDR2 800? Mathematically I guess it is, but does it translate exactly that way in the machine or will one be noticeably slower or faster than the other?

The 400 and 800 is the speed of the RAM, it has nothing to do with the capacity. The 400 would be slower than the 800. Plus, DDR and DDR2 have different key configurations so they won't both fit into the same motherboard anyways (unless you have one of the old hybrid boards that have slots for both of them that came out during the transition period).

I know I can't use the DDR in the DDR2 MoBo. It's more of a hypothetical than anything. Someone game me a processor w/ a new MoBo (AM2 versus my current 939). My 939 has 2 gig of DDR 400, and the other one supports up to DDR2 800. Currently the AM2 only has 1 gig of DDR2 at 667. I'm going to order 2 gig of DDR2 800 to replace the 667, just got me thinking about the math.

So, I've never really had a credit card (I have one of those credit/debit/ATM card things from my bank). I'm very opposed to the idea of EVER doing into debt or spending money I don't have for whatever reason, but as I move away from the warm womb of my alma mater, I'm beginning to realize that I need a "credit score". Apparently, I don't have one. Or something.

I just want to make sure that society is in fact forcing me to apply for and regularly use a credit card, and that I have absolutely no say in the matter. Can GAF confirm?

Where does all the ocean water come from?

and

Will we ever progress enough to have the ability to use cell phones and internet in subways(think underground NYC)?

The credit card doesn't put you into debt, your self-control does. There are too many benefits to having a credit card and it's nice to raise your FICO.

A credit card is the easiest way to achieve a modicum of a credit score. Use it responsibly - keep track of what you spend, etc, maintain a low credit limit, and you'll be ok.

Alternately, have someone co-sign a small loan with you. Make good on the payments, and that will improve your score, so you can get another small loan on your own.

Work your way up the $ value, keep paying things in full and on time, and you're golden.

What do you mean, where does it come from? It's been here since the creation of the planet, when free hydrogen and hydroxide ions combined to form water. Water doesn't generally leave the Earth, and it doesn't generally arrive.

And of course we will. Heck, we technically do now; we could just put a transceiver above ground, wire the signal through the concrete and asphalt, and rebroadcast using another transceiver in the subways. But that's expensive.

Almost all DDR scales with speed so while it will be DDR2 @ 800Mhz the latency will be 4 instead of 2 for DDR @ 400Mhz.

Bandwidth however is increased. Either way RAM performance on your system is extremely negligible in almost ever y application, we are talking sub 0.5% difference.

If you aren't overclocking anything all you need is the bare minimum, get something with heatsinks though.

....

As for me, is there any way to easily get additional credit card numbers that will work with Amazon Prime? I tried a gift card with $8 on it, but it is only 15 digits instead of 16 and also does not have enough to cover Prime which may of been the reason it was denied.

I know Paypal can generate codes, but do these work with Prime? Also I'd need to tie my bank account and install a browser plug-in so I am not to keen on that.
*Apparently Bank of America offers this as a service if you have a CC with them... Anywhere else?

Also any recommendations for a starting credit card? I was thinking of just using one from my bank that would be tied to my checking account with auto-pay so I wouldn't have to worry about paying late. It's just a 1% back card. $1,500 limit I think. I know there are 4% cards out there with different companies if you qualify.

Youve graduated from college and you dont understand how credit works? Wow.

Get a bank credit card (no annual fee) IMMEDIATELY. Use it for stuff that youd buy anyone, like groceries. Pay it off at the end of the week.

Result: Build credit history, and get a weekly interest free loan, and itll cost you NOTHING.

If youre willing to pay an annual fee (or once you build up enough credit history), then you can start enjoying rewards (points, cash back, whatever)

It makes NO financial sense to NOT have and use a credit card.

As long as youre responsible, itll MAKE money for you.

And yes, youll need to to buy a car or house.
