Thanks, it's hard for me to be rude but I'm going to flat out tell him to give up trying to contact me if he calls again -- then just buy a new Sim Card which I won't share out.

It was really starting to bug me, everyone telling me to see him, that I only get one biological father, etc. Which itself is true, but the fact of the matter is I only had one childhood which I was ostracized through at school for being a bastard child, never had a father figure while my brothers and sisters did... Urgh. Tangent.

As sad as it sounds I really am better off without both of my parents. ^^;

Absolutely not. Blood only goes so far. He wasn't there when you needed him, and that's his fault. If I were in that situation, I would probably ignore him. But I'm not you. Follow your instinct.

If it's the artificial powder stuff, it's not that different from normal lemonade; just a food coloring I think. Real pink lemonade sometimes has cranberry or strawberry. That's all I know.

video cards!

i currently have a 7300 le and running windows 7. my friend has a spare 9800 pro he'd be willing to give me.

is the 9800 pro better? will it run all of windows 7 graphics? and will it handle dual displays well (monitor and tv)?

Is it possible for a regular DVD to contain HD footage and play it? Obviously there's an issue with space, but let's say it's a very short clip that fits on the DVD.

If it's a data disc yes. If you mean a DVD movie disc, no. You can for example burn a DVD with HD MP4s on it and play them back on computers.
 
I'm trying to find a clip from an MTV dating show (Next?) that was aired sometime last week; at one point, a guy asks the potential date is she "likes sandwiches" and then proceeds to pull out exactly that. Anyone?
 
My computer screen broke recently so I've been using my LCD TV as a screen by just running the old monitor cord through to a port on the back of the TV. But it has no sound this way, so what cords do I need to use for sound?

If your TV has a VGA or DVI input it probably also has audio input. These are either red and white RCA jacks like you have on your consoles, a mini jack like on your MP3 player, or a weird square jack for an optical cable. Your PC will output sound via the green minijack port. You want a minijack to RCA or minijack cable, depending on what your TV will take.

Or, you plug in some separate PC speakers, which might be a lot easier (our your only option if your TV doesn't have a separate audio in jack).

Yeah, I think I might just buy new computer speakers, but I dunno, it seems like a good idea to run it through the TV for when I'm watching tv shows on my computer. I'll have a look for those. Thanks.
 
fingers. toe tags are pretty out-dated nowdays though, most morgues use bracelets like you would get if you were going to hospital.

well, do you know for sure that he just neglected to see/contact you growing up? Is it possible that he was kept away by your mother or other relatives? You don't owe him anything, sure, but he may have been hurting along with you...
 
100% sure. He himself said he would have come to see me as a child but it didn't feel *right*. Whatever that means, aside from that I had to go see him to meet him for the first time since my mother was bothering me about it, his attempts to see me so far haven't extended beyond phoning me up at random times. Anyway it's dealt with now, I told him to stop contacting me.


Anyway, did anyone else know that Sasha Grey did some modelling for American Apparel? She's hotter with her clothes on.
 
Anyone ever talk to a friend/ colleague/ loved one when you think ''shit i don't even know this person'' I do it sometimes, it freaks me out, i still know that i ''know'' the person and can tell you everything about them. I can't really explain it, it doesn't happen often, and i'm back to normal quickly, but when it does happen it's quite paniccy.
 
I'm trying to watch the download of the new (now oldish) CTF video of Modern Warfare 2 and I'm having problems. It plays fine during the Infinity Ward Logo stuff, but when the action begins, it freezes/gets all boxy on me. The sound continues and is fine though. I'm sure there has to be a way to fix this right?

Important notes are that I recently reformatted my hard drive and other videos play fine. Also, it does this in both WMP 10 and VLC and in both MP4 and WMV formats.

Also, what do I download to get rid of those boxes when it comes to my computer showing font/symbols/characters of other languages other than English. I used to have it, but I can't remember where I got it from.
 
While taking a smoke outside, I saw an airplane fly above my head so I tried to guess how large the distance between me and the plane is, I had nothing else to do, but the point here is: If the airplane is estimated to be 10 meters long, and from where I was standing it looked 1 cm long, that is 1/1000 of its original size, can one say that it was 1000 meters above me?

Is the method that I used correct? or does it not work that way to calculate sizes and distances?

I want to know the same thing. Sometimes I want to see a video in HQ so I put the &fmt=18 thing at the end of the url, but that makes the video thing stretch out like that. It's kind of annoying, especially since I thought to make the box widescreen it was &fmt=22.

The gf and I are currently thinking about going to see a concert next month. The sale price is $18 right now and $20 at the door. The problem is that they want to charge a $8 "convenience" fee per ticket on top of the $18 price tag. Will we get hit with the same fee if we get tickets at the door?

Concert tickets are the biggest load of bullshit I've ever seen. You shouldn't be able to advertise a show and then charge 50% of the purchase price in additional fees. What is convenient about driving my ass down to your club to buy these tickets?

It can vary from person to person, I'm not sure if there is a definitive rule. I know I was always taught to capitalise the most important words in the title, ie not small words like a/of etc. So I would choose A World Without Cars. From a visual perspective, I think it looks better too.

I know, it's ridiculous. It's practically false advertising. The only concern is ensuring that you can actually buy tickets at the door of the concert. It's better to pay a little extra to actually get in than not to and have a spoiled evening. But yes, it really is a piss take.


And a question/dilemma of my own; I ordered a graphics card from amazon and it came fine, via an amazon merchant. But this same merchant sent me a 500gb hard drive by accident, which I didn't order.

Now I've called the woman who originally ordered it and left a message on her answer phone. That was about a week ago and there has been no reply since.

So now I'm probably going to email the amazon merchant, but there is a selfish part of me that wants to keep it, since I was going to order one anyway but pulled out because I miscalculated my budget. But the altruistic part of me is winning at the moment. Should I let it win? Will the company have sent her another one anyway on account of it being "lost in the post?"

I think the the only thing you don't capitalize are articles (a, an, the) and prepositions that are less than 4 letters, unless these words are the first or last word in the title. So the third choice would be the correct one. But like CommieCaptorS said, there may not really be a set in stone rule, but I remember reading that in a grammar book in high school.
 
Anyone know of any software (free or not) that will let me record streaming audio (capture from my soundcard), and will also allow me to schedule it ahead of time? For example, I would set it to record whatever is outputted to my soundcard between 5-6pm tomorrow.

I've tried Blaze Audio Power Record, but it wouldn't work with my (built-in) soundcard.

You can actually capitalize it however you want, if you're the one writing it.

Generally, though, the last choice would be the most accepted.
 
I have a question, what is the main difference in terms of prostitution and pornography, not in the job title or whatever, but the legal reasons. Why is it permissible for a porn star to make money for having sex legal when it is illegal for a prostitute to make money for having sex?

As a former supermarket employee, I would have to say the friendliest/nicest people used the self checkout lanes, so they probably just want to do it themselves and not put more stress on the cashiers that are standing in the same place doing the same god damn thing for 8 hours straight. Also there usually is a person that helps out at the self checkout lanes for better efficiency.

Because the government gets a cut of what the movie makes. The director/movie company has to pay for a license to make a movie.
 
I have a stupid question, I guess. My dad keeps telling my sister to clear her internet cookies & temp files etc because the computer and/or the "Internet gets slowed down" which sounds ridiculous to me. Is he right though? I've never ever ever noticed a PC getting poor performance because the cached files are getting too big O_o Unless, you know, you don't clear them for like 5 years :P But my dad keeps saying that they should be cleared out like every two weeks. I don't even think he knows that the temp files are there to make website access *faster* in the first place :lol And seriously, cookies are like 1kb big. How many wouldn't it take to actually notice a severe performance issue on a relatively modern PC? :) Sure, he's surfing on a P4 1.8Ghz PC with a few years on it but still. I don't think it's your URL history that's making it slow as a turtle :lol

He also keeps using Windows defrag once a month or so. Isn't that doing more harm than good, really? :)

I've heard you should do that stuff, but I honestly don't think it does much of anything. I've never noticed any slowdown personally.
 
I have a question for comic-gaf: I've been catching up on my Batman recently, and have just finished reading the Battle For The Cowl story arc. Now following on from that, there seems to be 2 Batman comics, the regular Batman from issue 690 or so, and then one called Batman And Robin which is starting from issue 1.

My question is, is one of these considered 'canon', or are they both following on from Battle From The Cowl, essentially being set in the same story continuation but just as seperate comics? I know B&R is being written by Grant Morrison but wasn't sure what was going on. Thanks.
