So GAF I'm looking to find a First person Shooter with a decent map editor (preferably a cheap or free shooter that isnt too graphics heavy.)

I've tried Battlecraft 1942 but it says something like OpenGL something idk.

I've also toyed around with the Source SDK which would I would really like to know how to use, but all the tutorials I find seem to be for people who know the program and are looking for something new to do with it.

So I need a game with a good map editor OR a tutorial on the baisics of Source SDK Map Editor for a first timer.

Can ya help me out?

Here's what I've always wondered: On live broadcasts like local news and political talk shows, the Closed Captioning is typed by stenographers in the studio, which lags behind the actual speech and is often misspelled or has wrong words. But in most of these shows, especially local news, the anchors are just reading off the teleprompter 99% of the time, and if they ever speak off the cuff it's a quick joke or or something not really worth repeating. So why don't they just feed the text on the teleprompter directly to the Closed Captioning signal?

Any one can direct me to manga/light novel thread or write here what they think are the best sci-fi/post-apocalypse/battle royale/trinity blood lol light novels in English on the market? Got an urge 2hrs ago to discover them and I don't know what to order (ordered Trinity Blood vol. 1 already, but I want more!)
Berserk may be something you might like.

HDTV confuses me. If the picture is 4:3 and doesn't fill the whole TV, can it still be HD resolution? We have an old HDTV that's 4:3, so it made me think that there has to be HD stuff that isn't widescreen. And is 720p>1080i? Our TV is weird and is 1080i native. And what about movie theatres? I've heard that film is a higher resolution than HD, but when I go to the movies, it doesn't look as good as a nice HDTV.

>If the picture is 4:3 and doesn't fill the whole TV, can it still be HD resolution?
Yes, as long as the display is 720p or higher, it is technically HD. This would mean black bars top and bottom on a 4:3 set. If it is fullscreen, the sides are cropped.

>And is 720p>1080i?
Not usually, especially on a given set. 1080 has more lines of resolution, but the lines are interlaced. There are some technical tricks some sets use to to quasi-emulate 1080i when they aren't truly 1080i native. Some 720p sets will look better than many 1080i sets. One set that has both will typically look better at its native resolution.

>And what about movie theatres? I've heard that film is a higher resolution than HD, but when I go to the movies, it doesn't look as good as a nice HDTV.

Well, film is film. There are no pixels, so no measurement of resolution. It is dependent on the quality of the film and equipment. Your HDTV looks better because the screen is a fraction of the size of the theater screen, which gives better brightness, colors, contrast, black levels, shadows, etc.

I just grabbed a netbook (win XP) and it won't let me create partitions by using the Disk Management option.

I have:

C:
105.10 GB NTFS
Healthy (System)

Lenovo D:
29.19 GB NTFS
Healthy

and

14.75 GB NTFS
Healthy (EISA Configuration)

But cannot create partitions using either one. Also, Lenovo is the only space that has a green strip around it. I cannot launch the New Partition Wizard or whatever it is I've been reading about. HALP? I really need to create a partition so that I can run Linux for one of my software engineering classes!

question regarding using msn messenger to send a text to a phone.
If im overseas and I use msn on my computer to send a text to someone's phone back in the US, will that person incur extra charges?

Anyone know where I can get a shirt like the one the guy who announced the iPhone 3GS was wearing?
even though I maybe can't afford it

Looking for a certain film I saw the trailer for a while ago.

It looked like a european version of 'Oprhan', only the girl was blonde and a bit older. She also looked really creepy. It might have been french.

Any clues?

I Really like the collar and zipper and the way they look together. Also like the way it wrinkles. (the look of the material I guess)

It's a pretty minimal shirt IMO which is what I like. I dunno, I'm really picky about clothes and it's hard for me to find something that I don't have a problem with, even stuff that I like I usually wish were different somehow- and that shirt is just amazing to me. During the keynote I kept admiring it and wishing I knew where to get it. :lol

It's cool- I probably don't like your taste in clothes either because I am so picky... :D

question: I know and understand that two objects will fall at the same speed in an air vacuum no matter their weight because of gravity. On earth of course, air resistance, object shape etc is what makes a feather and elephant fall at different speeds.

My question is this though: do they fall with the same force? ie. in an airless vacuum, will a regular tennis ball and half tonne tennis ball (basically a very heavy tennis ball) have the same impact when they touch the ground, say into a sand pit or water.

since you are using a netbook, I am going to go ahead and assume you dont have a optical drive. now before I try to help, can I ask what Linux were you going to install?

Drop something light and something heavy on your feet and let us know.

Hm, maybe a regular text message you will get charged, but I'm not really sure if you send an IM message through MSN. I found this:

UK MSN said:
Two out of three holidaymakers are risking high overseas phone charges by leaving their mobile switched on, according to a survey.

Mobile users are charged not just for making and receiving calls but also each time a voicemail message is left and each time a message is picked up.

And more than one in four Brits (43%) have been shocked by an expensive phone bill on their return from holiday, according to the uSwitch.com survey of 1,310 UK adults.

The survey, carried out last month after the introduction of new EU pricing guidelines, found just 4.5% of holidaymakers protect themselves from charges by turning off their phone and keeping it turned off until they need to make a call. Two out of three people (66%) risk high overseas charges by switching on their phone without even intending to use it, with half of those having it turned on most of the time.

Steve Weller, communications expert at uSwitch.com, said: "As soon as your phone is switched on abroad the damage is done - it is registered to a local network and starts to incur overseas charges, even if you switch it straight back off again. This means that you pay to receive calls, make calls, for people to leave you a message and to pick up that message - all at higher overseas rates.

"If you are one of the 27% of people who only take their phone with them in case of an emergency, you are better off switching your phone off in the UK and leaving it switched off until you need it. This way any voicemail messages are being charged at UK rates.

"Failing that you should always tell friends and family to only send texts - which are free for you to receive - or you could ask your mobile phone company to switch off your voicemail service while you are away."

Of those questioned, 42% did not know they could be charged for someone leaving them a voicemail and 10% did not know they could be charged for picking up messages, while 85% were not sure what they were being charged for calls and texts.

The EU guidelines, which came into force on July 1, say the maximum a mobile phone provider can charge for services in Europe is 37p per minute to make phone calls, 16p per minute to receive phone calls and 9p to send a standard text message. Receiving text messages while abroad is free.

Mr Weller said: "For those who prefer to chat, ask your mobile phone provider about a separate roaming package for calls before you travel, or buy an international SIM card that lets you make cheaper calls abroad. This is a very easy step to take but half of us (50%) have never asked about roaming packages and 75% have never used an international SIM card."

No. Force is still mass x acceleration, and the half ton tennis ball has a lot more mass.

If irrefutable evidence came out that OJ didn't do it, what would happen, realistically?
Irrefutable evidence of his innocence would presumably mean rock-solid evidence that somebody else had done it. That person would be charged. Maybe OJ would sue somebody.

But it doesn't matter, since he did it.

That, and he's currently in jail for something unrelated to the murders, so he'd still be in jail regardless.

My guess would be that the teleprompter doesn't just contain text. It probably also has stage directions ("look at camera X," "throw to your co-anchor," etc.) that would have to be stripped out for the purpose of closed captioning.

Also, there is probably more ad-libbing than you might think between segments and certainly during live/breaking news. So I can see where it would seem like a good idea...but I doubt it would work.

Not really a stupid question, but I've been seeing a psychiatrist for anxiety. Every time I get a 3 month prescription for klonopin and ativan. Can I just see a general practitioner for these prescription or at least ask for refills so that I don't have to go through the usual dance? (btw I never asked for refills because I'm afraid of sounding like a drug fiend)

You know Valve has a wiki, right?

Wiki: Your first map

Category: Level design

Try Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory? Lots of tutorials for that & a good level editor.

i herd theres a big magnet in the sub woofer to a surround sound system. is that true cause i had an xbox to close to mine once and i think thats what fucked up the hard drive....

Your psychiatrist needs to monitor your progress. Some medicines can be dangerous if used incorrectly. If you're not getting anything out of the sessions themselves you need to talk about it with your doctor because the medicine will only get you so far.

Holy shit! I need to know this too. My game systems sit on top of my Sub...

All standard speakers usually have magnets in them. I don't know if the magnetism is strong enough to be significant, but speakers also produce vibration which I would not want my equipment sitting directly on top of.

Most speakers have electro-magnets in them, with all the downsides that involves. However, I really doubt it's scrapping any harddrives.

Not true. There's a magnet in wine coolers though, I wouldn't place an Xbox on top of one.

I need a link to the all purpose Star Trek thread here. Can't find it for some stupid ass reason. Much appreciated, I want to comment on Star Trek: Enterprise. Just finished it up.

Are there actually decent working "myspace trackers" now? Someone got mad at me for viewing their page and told me it's because their profile tells them who views it. Always figured with no script and what not running, it would block anything like that.

Someone got mad cause u viewed their page? tell them to take it off myspace then or shut their whiny hole.

I have 2 360s (both which get use at the same time), GFWL games, a PS3 and a Wii. I need to forward ports on my PC and across all these devices and I'm getting to a point where only being able to DMZ 1 local IP and being unable to forward the same port on multiple IPs (the two 360s problem) is really starting to screw me over NAT-wise.

I can't find the router thread so, can someone help suggest me a nice router to buy that'll take care of these problems for me? Hell, if I turn UPnP on my router, it shuts down whenever I turn my PS3 on. It's a WRT54G. I thought these things were supposed to be generic and "just work." Any help?

edit: Oh yeah and 2 laptops connect to it wirelessly. It's over a 12mbps cable network (comcast) so it can handle the traffic, it just can't handle the port forwarding.

I thought that was what a psychologist was for.

I basically walk in, he ask me how things are, if I'm taking my meds and if they are still helping, then I get a script. So how long should the session be? I've been on these meds for two years.

If the teleprompter's text was stored in an XML file, and the lines were stored in different entities than stage directions, it could be helpful... aside from the non-scripted stuff you mention, of course.

I have a new jacket with a standard zip-up front (AFAIK), but I would like to make it a double zipper. Could a tailor do this for me?

Here's one I've wondered for a while. For some time, I've noticed that every time I go to the movie theater, a few times during the film an usher will walk down to the front row, then walk across the front of the theater and walk back while holding a colored flashlight like the kind airport runway workers use to direct airplanes. What are they doing? They don't seem to be looking for anything and I don't know what deterrent that walking is supposed to have. I thought maybe they're trying to detect people with camcorders but camcorders would be at the back of the theater, not the front.

What does "RTTP" mean?

I know LTTP means "Late to the party" or something to that effect. But I can't figure out RTTP. :lol

In the Fresh Prince intro, are we supposed to believe that Will takes a cab from Philadelphia to California? That's like 2700 miles and would take $41. And it would cost like $8000 dollars.
