In the Fresh Prince intro, are we supposed to believe that Will takes a cab from Philadelphia to California? That's like 2700 miles and would take $41. And it would cost like $8000 dollars.

Nope. In the longer intro, you clearly see him sitting on a plane sipping champagne and stuff. He grabs the cab when he comes out from the airport.

Pfft everyone knows that's not canonical to the Fresh prince Universe

Aha! I shall go look for it on YT. Thanks.

Edit: fuck, the cab's plate says "California" and the HOLLYWOOD sign is in the background. Mega fail on my part :P

have there been any legendary threads lately? aka epic meltdowns, backfires, or in general just fucking hillarious/awesome threads?

I have a question for comic-gaf: I've been catching up on my Batman recently, and have just finished reading the Battle For The Cowl story arc. Now following on from that, there seems to be 2 Batman comics, the regular Batman from issue 690 or so, and then one called Batman And Robin which is starting from issue 1.

My question is, is one of these considered 'canon', or are they both following on from Battle From The Cowl, essentially being set in the same story continuation but just as seperate comics? I know B&R is being written by Grant Morrison but wasn't sure what was going on. Thanks.

Kinda late on the answer here but I'll chime in anyways.

The main Batman series, written by Judd Winick, primarily (or only, I forget) follows Batman. Batman and Robin, by Grant Morrison follows both characters and really, if you had to pick one, you should choose Batman & Robin. Both series are canon, so you really can't go wrong, but since Grant Morrison pretty much set up the entire thing, it's safe to say that in the long run, B&R will be more important to whatever will occur later.

Just as a clarification, they do tell different stories. B&R and Batman do not crossover story wise so if you decide to skip out on one, it won't be a problem.

If you have an identical twin sister, you are female and thusly, unable to knock anyone up.

HOWEVER if you took one of your own eggs, and fused it with one of your sister's eggs, then you could make a baby (in theory - I don't think we are technologically able to do this yet). It would be a girl.

This baby might not look like you and your sister do.
This is because you and you sister have identical genes, which would include some dominant genes masking the expression of recessive ones. If by chance both of the eggs you took had recessive copies of any given gene, then the baby would exhibit that trait, while it would be masked by the dominant copy in both you and your sister.

Question regarding HDTVS:

Is there a difference in the image quality between a 720p native TV and a 1080p one if the source is a 720p signal, from like a 360?

I would think a 720p would theoretically produce the better picture, but most TV's sold today re 1080p, and I don't see anybody complain about that.

I'm getting a 1080p TV, so what should I do?

I have my 360 set on 720p on my 1080p tv, if i set it to 1080p it begins to stutter at times.
I can't see any difference to be honest

Just chucking this out there so here gos :lol

I wanted to run my pc through my TV using HDMi but I cant work out how...
Ive got a 9800Gt (if my memory's right) and it has a hdmi output so way back I took a cable plugged it in and then the other end in my TV and nothing.

Im assuming its because I didn't set it up via the pc but then TV will only output at 1280x1024 (ish?) when done DVi>VGA-----VGA.
Would probably help if I was at home and able to give more detail but im stuck at work so :lol

What is the deal with some gaming press and their weird insistence to obsessively pronounce everything in Japanese and address Japanese game developers like Kojima-san or Miyamoto-san. I know some of them really want to call them - chan.

Or maybe its just weird to me.

No, only problem is if the tv has a poor scaler and the 1080p doesn't look as good. In this case, let the 360 scale to 1080p.

I would think a 720p would theoretically produce the better picture, but most TV's sold today re 1080p, and I don't see anybody complain about that.

It can be more pristine to go native image source all the way to display. In some cases you can do this in 1:1 pixel mapping. Most of the time you won't tell the difference at all, unless the tv is subpar, especially with gaming.

I'm getting a 1080p TV, so what should I do?
Everything else considered equal, go with 1080p. It is the future, the new tech. (HDTV, blu ray, next gen, etc.) 720p is old hat.

I'm thinking about aking a thread anyway, but i really need help with my laptop.. vista simply won't boot up and just sits on a black screen, and i really need to preserve the hard drive contents as it include a ton of my school work including a bunch of essays that i simply need in tact.

Have no clue what to do and i'm even on my PS3s internet browser.. and to make matters worse this is not only my laptop but i've been borrowing it for for months now from a friend so their stuff is on here as well (a ton of music). HELP! :(

Get a Linux boot CD, boot into Linux, copy valuable files to a removable media device.

Then reformat.
No other way to get it to work? :lol I can't even access safe mode though so there's probably little I can do.. :\

Do I need a Linux noot CD or can i download something like that into a USB drive and boot from that somehow? :s

I'm going to be getting a laptop before summer 2010, but I want to start figuring stuff out now. I've wanted a MacBook for a long time, and I was planning to get one and dual boot Windows 7 on it. But I recently realized that I'm also going to need a way to play Blu-Rays on it. So now I've got two options: MacBook with external BD drive or anything else that had a BD drive in it. I've tried searching new egg and the like, but I'm having trouble narrowing stuff down and finding exact prices. How much would either of these cost? Which one is the better option?

OK I download some free version of Linux (puppy something i think) onto my USB flassh drive, it was a simple .iso file.. now how do i make my non-bootable vista laptop boot up linux so i can go in and retrieve my important HDD files?

Is it 100% that booting linux won't make my files delete/reformat? This is really important so if it's not certain than i'm going to have to take this junk to some shop and pay up a few hundred or whatever..

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's one I've wondered for a while. For some time, I've noticed that every time I go to the movie theater, a few times during the film an usher will walk down to the front row, then walk across the front of the theater and walk back while holding a colored flashlight like the kind airport runway workers use to direct airplanes. What are they doing? They don't seem to be looking for anything and I don't know what deterrent that walking is supposed to have. I thought maybe they're trying to detect people with camcorders but camcorders would be at the back of the theater, not the front.

My best guess is what you alluded to. I'd assume he's looking for a reflection from the lens of a camcorder.

Okay guys, question.

For a while now, I've noticed that some streaming video sites run like absolute shit on my PC. Like for example, YouTube's new HD videos. Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfpkLpz30Ac

For me at least, watching that video is like watching a slideshow with sound. Then there's other sites, like the Nostalgia Critic's videos, or Hulu videos, that run fine, but only when windowed. In fullscreen, they run pretty choppy (but nowhere near as bad as that YouTube one above). But the YouTube one above and ones like it completely max out my CPU usage.

I've got a 2GHz PC and a 256MB video card. I know it's not a lot, but I don't play PC games or anything. Is this really not enough to even watch streaming videos anymore?

If you let it load all the way before playing do you still have the same problem?

Also what is your CPU/Graphics? Pentium 4 / 2400+ and a 7600?

Yep, still the same problem even if I let it load completely.

Pentium 4 2GHz, GeForce FX 5600, 1.25GB RAM.

You are cutting is close with the hardware you have.

I'm pretty sure a low-end new card (8400, 9400, or ATi 4___ equivilent) will do the job.

But alas you only have AGP... Time to get a new computer :D
Head on over to the $500 PC thread. Or buy a 5870 :D

it's probably been asked but whatever...

if you are white yet you were born in africa, you're african-american correct?

so is that what you would mark down on employment sheets or whatever?

:lol

Hyphenated identities are screwy. Originally, the term, used in a disparaging, negative way, literally meant people who held dual citizenship. Now it is used in a much broader sense with anyone that has "foreign ancestry."

I have mixed feelings about it. I'm technically Irish-American, meaning I was born in Ireland and still hold Irish citizenship. But try telling that to Bostonians, "Oh yeah, me too!"

"Really? What part?"

"Oh, I dunno, my great grandfather came from somewhere on the coast."

"Oh."

Oh well. Anyway, yes, anyone born in Africa, who retains their African country's citizenship, and also becomes a U.S. citizen, can technically be called "African-American." And, if you were willing to push the issue, you could easily argue the legitimacy of such a title on official documents.

A while ago in the OT there was a video posted of a stand-up comedian talking about women who like it rough and how that can get guys in trouble (such as being charged with rape). Anyone have a link to this video, or know which comedian it was?

I know this is not the video you are looking for, but it reminds me of this routine from Louis C.K.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za7jQ1s1BV0

is there a hack or mod to zoom out more in Warcraft 3 single player? I would like it if the camera zoomed out a lot more.

Say if I drop off mail right now, will it be postmarked today or tomorrow?
Mail gets postmarked as it runs through a giant stamping machine that's hooked up to a giant clock that runs the world.

Or something.

What show is this from?

I was just wondering what's up with the "Will not ship to Italy" stuff you see on many online stores? Kind of a strange country to blacklist I thought.

A lot of items don't reach their destinations in Italy. Here's a quote from an eBay guide.

"Over the past 4 years we have shipped over 15,000 packages--approximately 1500-2000 have been international. Of those only a handful did not reach the customer, and the overwhelming majority were to customers located in Italy.

Where the heck did they all go?!?!

Well, scientists have recently discovered that several black holes exist within the Italian postal and customs system, likely the result of atomic particle acceleration experiments that took place there during the 1970s.

Therefore it is recommended that Ebay sellers save themselves time, money, products, and misery by NOT shipping to Italy."

The forum automatically sets the img width tag to 90, so your avatar would shrink when displayed.
