I've always thought of 'cocksuckers' and 'suckers' as two diffrent words with two diffrent meanings. But a friend of mine today said that 'suckers' is basically a less profane way of saying 'cocksuckers'

Who is right?

you are because suckers are people who are gullible

The term "sucker" goes back to P.T. Barnum days, as in "never give a sucker an even break". It refers to a young barnyard animal that is still sucking at its mother's teat, and it's basically calling someone naive, inexperienced, and as koam said, gullible.

I had something like that for my TV. It happened on games with very dark backgrounds and dark lighting. I can't remember the exact thing it was called, but it auto-darkened the dark parts and instead darkened the whole thing. W/e that is, turn it off.

Thank you for your reply. However, my problem is a bit different. I mean it did not auto-darkened like you said but it did not display anything, which seems like it just completely turn off for a few seconds. Sorry for my confusing English.:D

I need some help with my programms that start when Windows start.

I just recently installed Windows 7 64 bit. When I go in msconfig it seems to only display the
64 bit programms. Can that be true? It just seems that all my 32bit programms are missing
on that list and I can't disable their autostart function.

Would appreciate some info on that a lot.

Of course not, if you could see my post history I often post funny google ads. I'm not that stupid! :lol I'm pretty sure many gaffers use ad blockers, and put GAF on the whitelist.

I've got another question of my own, even more pointless, but I'm curious...

Who's the oldest person on GAF? :/
Dunno, but i'm pretty sure i've come across some 35/40+ year olds on here before. :\

Am I the only person who rarely ever laughs at his PC? I find a ton of things funny -- text, pictures, videos; but rarely will I ever laugh out loud. I see things like "OMG I am literally crying with laughter here" after a funny picture and I honestly can't imagine myself ever doing that in front of my screen. The closest I'll get is watching a funny video with a group of friends. But I'll go through the funny pictures thread loving a lot of it, maybe even reply with a :lol to something I really find funny, but in all likelihood I'm looking at the screen with a completely blank expression. I'll only ever usually laugh out loud at a really funny video, or something that caught me off guard/shocked me.

Why would a thief, "rogue", or "scalawag" wear a hood?

Doesn't that just reduce their peripheral vision?

Good point, but it also hides their face somewhat, if the hood is large enough.

I'm the same way. I think a lot of people just over-dramatize their reactions, honestly.

Computer GAF, please help. My LCD monitor randomly goes black out for a few seconds and return to normal when I play games. It has no problem when I use other applications (like movie, game, photoshop, etc...) though. It's pretty annoying especially when I play FPS. A quick Google search shows that It might be because of the PSU. Does anyone have experience regarding this? Thanks.:D

This is tough to say 100% without a little troubleshooting. It could be the monitor itself (less likely), or the video signal coming from your computer (more likely). You should hook up a different monitor to your computer, or hook up that monitor to another computer and use it in a similar fashion.

Once you've figured out for sure which is the issue, the path splits.

If it's the monitor, you're probably out of luck unless it's under warranty. Physical issues with monitors are not generally trivial fixes. You'll just have to replace it.

If it's the video signal coming from your computer, this can be several things. The PSU can definitely be an issue, as you've mentioned. It could also be the video card itself. I'd bet on the latter in this case, if it was an issue of the PSU not providing enough power when gaming you'd more likely be seeing restarts or shutdowns, instead of blackouts.

Whichever turns out to be the issue in this case, you'll have to replace.

Use Firefox, get the extension called Greasemonkey and install the NeoGAF Integrated Google Search script for it. It'll put a search box right under the Quick Links/Log Out buttons that will emulate the "site:neogaf.com" google search function automatically.

Why do so many americans not care about the poor? I notice a lot of americans want every penny they've earned and not share the wealth. Are we programmed this way? Has capitalism turned us into this?

So a while ago I remember reading about a metaphor on here regarding Spongebob Squarepants and contraception/reproductive stuff. It came up today in conversation today with a friend. I couldnt remember all the specifics and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction where to find this metaphor. Google searches just turned up news articles regarding a partnership with an actual contraception sponge company.
It's somewhere posted in this thread! I swear I read it on this thread. Look back in this thread.

If you're talking about the contest to see who can last the longest without jerking off, it doesn't really have a start date. Although there were two of them last year...

My TV always cuts off stuff on the edges. It's really annoying when I'm playing games, cause sometimes it cuts off important info in the HUD. Some games don't have an option where you re-center it or zoom out. Does my TV do this just because it's getting old? I've had it since '99 at least.

Where did this "black dude's face inserted on sports jersey" meme come from? Who is he?

I'm not being racist am I?

Is it a really old HDTV? Because mine does this too. I don't have any details, though, sorry.

I laugh all of the time with friends, but when I'm alone at my PC it just doesn't come out. I'm happy laughing in my head. As I said, I do laugh occasionally at something really funny, or if it shocks me or catches me off guard, but it'll usually just be a giggle at most. I'm not saying I don't find things funny -- the internet is hilarious. It's not a case that I don't like laughing, but a laugh should be involuntary; I'm not going to force myself to do it because I like it, it just happens to be the case that I really don't need to laugh out loud when alone most of the time.

Being a junior, I can't create threads, and there was no Valentines day thread so I'm posting this here:

Me and my girlfriend have been going out for 7 and a half months. Long story short, a while back she told me while we were in the mall one day, that she really wanted this ring from her parents as a graduation gift or something. (It's a nice ring, though nothing special, it was $100).

While she wasn't looking a snapped a pic of the ring and came back a bit later to purchase it for her. Now I was teling my friends at work today that I planned on giving her the ring today as a V-day gift, and most of them pretty much told me I shouldn't do it, because "rings" give off a really serious message. I told them I just thought it was a thoughtful gift, and I know she'd appreciate that I got her the one she wanted even though she told me about it months ago.

We tell each other all the time that we love each other, and I really do. I obviously want to be with her, so I didn't think it was such a big deal that I bought her a ring. They suggested a bracelet, necklace, pretty much anything else OTHER than a ring, claiming that I'd be "fucking myself over" because things change and expectations rise when you give a gift like that.

Personally, like I said before, I don't see it as such a big deal. I just want to see her happy. Should I give her the ring? I'm already getting her flowers and taking her our to dinner tonight.

Any input from someone out there?

You know your girlfriend better than your co-workers, if you think she'll like it, I say go for it.

Moreover, I was able to avboid Tubgirl and seeing a dead baby my entire life until now. I question these people's mental states when they do stuff like this.

I'd say it's a bit forward, but we don't know your situation outside of what you've mentioned here. You could always hold on to it until whenever she graduates, so at least it's going to her for that? A ring on V-Day is saying a lot, even if you don't mean it to.

Although, I have a friend that I'm not with or anything, but every year I propose to her and she says no, and I get a ring each year. Last year was the paper ring from a cigar, and this year she requested a ring pop, so I got a ring pop. It's always fun.

That guy is Dwayne Wade, an NBA player on the Miami Heat. He's probably going to be traded soon because he's pretty unhappy there.

Not sure if that last bit is hilarious or creepy :lol

There's a thread titled "fix your avatars by Feb 8" or something, it was stickied for a couple weeks. May be too late now, though.

120x90, less than 150k iirc

Thanks, i saw the thread still stickied a few days ago. I don't come on GAF very often so my avatar seemed fine since it hadn't been changed to what it is now.

I would think so. I remember reading an article in Discover about calculating the weight of the internet, and it was a really minuscule number.

Yeah, it's called Overscan, old CRT TVs have it. I would assume a lot of newer games... even some from the last few years don't even account for the "TV Safe" zone anymore, which was the area that wouldn't get cut off. I seem to remember my friend's old TV would cut off some of the UI in Final Fantasy XII.

If your TV has no settings to adjust the overscan than you're pretty much screwed unless you buy a newer CRT TV or just get with the times and buy an LCD or Plasma.
