How would I go about engineering an un-losable disc for disc golf?

I was thinking of either putting a strobe on it that would emit a bright flash every 5 seconds, or putting a receiver in the disc such that I could push a button on a remote and the disc would emit a noise to help me find it.

Your thoughts?

Could someone, please, very briefly, explain how the phone system works in the US?

Cause the way we do it here is you buy a phone, unlocked. You go to a provider (and they are all the same) give you a sim either on contract or pre paid. Put it in your phone. You now have a mobile phone. You break your phone you buy a new one, put the sim in and done.

In the US you got multiple providers each offering different stuff. Anyway, explain please.

I am worried about getting mercury poisoning from eating too much tuna. I typically eat one (1) 85g tin a day. But I've also heard that most tuna these days are raised in fish farms so mercury accumulation shouldn't be a problem if that is the case, right?

We can do that too, but not many people do. Instead we go to phone carriers and buy phones directly from them. The phones are subsidized if you sign a multi-year contract. IE cheaper up front, but you pay for it over time with a slightly larger monthly bill.

Ok and then when your contract expires you get a new phone? Do you give the old one back?

You can if you want. Same rules apply; renew the contract and get a cheaper phone. And no, you keep the phone.

It shouldn't present that much of a problem.

You'll stop liking tuna before the mercury gets you.

Why is colonel pronounced as kernal?
It's probably a mispronunciation that stuck, because colonel is a French word and it's not pronounced that way at all in French.
Edit:it's pronounced "coh loh nehl" in French.

When the word entered Middle French from Italian, the l in colonel was dissimilated to an r (similar sounds in French), leading to two written and spoken forms being used, colonel and coronel.

When we borrowed the word, we pronounced it like the second one, butchered it to kernal, and kept the spelling colonel since it was the more prevalent form (Modern French uses just colonel in speech and writing).

Spanish still uses coronel, probably because of a separate, but similar, dissimilation.

Two stupid questions!

Do I need to buy a new power adaptor if I want to use my laptop computer in France? Specifically, a MacBook Pro.

Where is a good place to buy possibly-rare vinyl online? I'm looking specifically for the band Stereolab.

I'd say you were under the 'recommended' limit but it's not insignificant. Depends on the type of tuna of course.

Depending on where you live, you might need a new plug, but it is my understanding that all power adaptors are the same worldwide.

1) How often does FedEx ground deliver packages before the estimated delivery date? I can only pick up packages from Mon-Fri from my building and my speakers are estimated to be here on Saturday, so either they come early, I intercept the FedEx guy and grab the package on Saturday (if that's even possible) or I wait till Monday, which isn't an option.

2) Why do some UPS shipments have an estimated delivery date while others don't? The one with is 3 Day, the one without is ground, is that why?

Why are Steam games the same price / more expensive than games sold in retail?

Because despite how wildly successful Steam is, retail giants like Walmart are able to strong-arm publishers by threatening to stop carrying their titles if DD prices aren't comparable to retail prices.

Basically. 3 days is GUARANTEED 3 days. Ground is anywhere from 3-8 days, so just assume they did give you an estimate, and it is 8 days from when it was shipped. And then you'll be pleasantly surprised when it arrives early (maybe)!

Thanks Kurtofan and Schmattakopf (<--- I could have sworn you were named Desaparecido...if you were, I hate you for changing your name. kidding! :lol)

:lol The name I used everywhere was awful (I picked it when I was ten), so I just chose Desaparecido at random when I registered, but then decided on Schmattakopf during approval.

I figured I'd change it here since I'm new and no one knows me anyway.

Heres a stupid question that doesnt need a thread;

Itunes store, never used it, but browsing through their film/tv shows section it sounds rather awesome, i have good money coming in and id much prefer mp4's to dvds as it suits my lifestyle to a tee. However ive never used the service before, so before i go darting off spending a few weeks paychecks ive a few questions.

Firstly, generally what is the quality of the movies/tv shows, whats the compression like? Is there a really noticeable difference between what you see on tv or on a dvd, im fine with some difference and lesser quality BUT i dont want badly compressed crap which is a poor substitute.

Secondly, i realise it is mp4, like apple a specialized apple codec. How convertible are these files? I have a really good convert software but im warey as to how whether apple have put any safeguards in place to prevent it from happening.

Thirdly, generally is there anything i should know before i start?

Cheers :D

Does anyone know where I could find a control list for Fifa soccer 2004 for Xbox? I lost my booklet and I can't figure out some of the controls, even though they are sometimes listed during loading screens, I can't ever absorb all the info.

Wut? You can change your username? Or is that only before you're approved?

1. Rarely, but I've called Fed Ex and changed the delivery destination or picked up at Fed Ex. The Fed Ex delivery can be different than the vendors though. I live down the street from an Amazon warehouse, so I usually get my packages within a day or two on the cheapest delivery method. Amazon usually estimates it at 3 or 4 days.
2. Not sure about this one, but cost/method is almost always the answer regarding delivery times.

From the ToS:
"If you wish to change your username, simply notify an administrator via Private Message (though bear in mind that frequent changes will be frowned upon)."

There's a Swell Season song that includes the line "in the silence call me home" line in the chorus.

Anyone know the name of this song?

Ok so I have this pain in my thigh area. I believe its the muscle because I have tried to stretch it and certain stretches bring a massive pain to the area.

It seems whenever I try to twist my body to get up from lying down I feel the pain. I feel the pain whenever I get up from a chair and I have to flex my muscle. I feel pain whenever I sit "indian" style/cross legged. I don't know what this pain is and it has been with me for about 3 weeks - month now. I thought it would go away but now its starting to get on my nerve.

Here is a picture of me laying down on my back doing a stretch. I don't know the name of it but picture my right leg is pointing towards 3 oclock and my left leg is straight towards six. (pardon the drawing, the red is were it hurts)

I'd like to know what I could do to stop this damn ache/pain. Its really bothering me.

After a certain amount of years, it would go to the state where they hold it (Escheatment I think is the word). That timeframe varies by state.

I dislocated my pinky and severed the tendon about 5 weeks ago. As it heals I feel like it's losing its range of motion. A couple weeks ago I was able to straighten it but now that same action is painful. I've been exercising it and it's generally buddy taped. WTF can I do to get it straight? Goddamn pinky.

Do I want pizza for lunch?
