I always thought "LTTP" stood for "Link to the past" - which was not only a Zelda reference, but also true - since it were topics for older games. Mind unblown :(

I never noticed it before, but when you leave your mouse on the logo in the top left you get this:

Why is it there and what does that mean?

What does, "dip your tip" mean?

I think it's dirty but I'm not sure. Internet failed me on this one.

I think it's just a reference to how many gaming industry people browse and post on gaf, even taking part in drama on the board, like David Jaffe and Denis Dyack.

So Gaf, a group of friends and I are planning a camping trip very soon.(College Aged kids)

A friend recommended finding a campsite somewhere in upstate New York in the Catskills region. However, our group is kind of new to camping and were not sure exactly where we would stay. We would like a place were we can simply just rough it and stay in a tent somewhere in the woods. Also we'd like to be able to set a campfire and bbq. Does anyone know any good campsites in the region that they know are fun and preferably cheap?

Also what are some things that we should be SURE to bring on a camping trip or any other tips?

Okay on the latest Mythbusters, they tested to see if a 200 foot slide at a 24 degree angle could get you to travel 115 feet. They said it was impossible because you would only get up to 30 miles per hour max and the myth required you to be going 40-45 mph. I did the math and neglecting air resistance and friction:

Velocity=(9.81*60.96*sin(24)*2)^.5=79.4 kilometers/hour or 47.6 miles per hour.

So can somebody double-check the math for me?

Also, keep in mind that the slide then entered a ramp at 150 degrees from the positive x-axis but I can't for the life of me remember how to do that part of the equation.

Would it be reasonable to say that the potential energy was there to fly 115 feet?

I've always looked for places with accommodations in mind because of my extended family, and although you said you want to rough it, if you're all beginners, I would recommend doing the same thing because there's a lot to camping. It's something you end up learning by some trial and error, which is absolutely no fun when there's not even a bathroom around or you're far away from your car. Either way though, there are so many places in that area. You shouldn't have any trouble finding one. Most campsites have a campfire per site, and some may have a grill.

There are a lot of things you need to bring, and a lot of tips, so I'll just throw things out there. You gotta have the right food--simplest things that you can keep in a cooler. You gotta have the right gear--again, lots of things, I always find an air mattress and tarps are good ideas. Make sure you can set up your tent right and that you can keep it dry before you go. Put a tarp under your tent. Make sure you know how to keep the food at night (because of bears) and put as many things/as much food as possible in your car at night when you're done using them instead of leaving them out (for many reasons). Make sure you get there early the first day so you can get it set up in time and get food going. Make sure you know where the nearest grocery is, and other places like that.

Edit: I agree with every one of these tips - http://www.koa.com/tents/tips.htm.

Depending on where you live, you might need a new plug, but it is my understanding that all power adaptors are the same worldwide.

no no no

you need to check the input that it accepts. some american will only do 110 (or whatever it is there) it will state it on the adapter.

If it says something like

110 - 240 V

then you need a plug converter only.

If it states either 110V only or 230/240V only on the back (depending on if you are american or european), you need a step up/step down transformer. Pretty sure Xbox 360 has this issue.

On consoles? Not as long as devs value other stuff over AA. It's basically "Do we want the best textures, poly counts, and lighting possible for the spec of this console or do we want to smooth out the edges?" They need to evaluate where they want to allocate the processing power.

USPS/Amazon marketplace problem.

I ordered 3 items off Amazon marketplace from the same seller. Two of the three items I received already, the third is a PS2 slim so it would come in a package I'm assuming. On Amazon I can view the tracking information for all 3 items (they were each sent separately), which shows "Delivery Confirmation" for May 17th. I now realize that the tracking number is the same for all 3 items, which is fucked because there were 3 different packages. So has anyone been in a similar situation? Should I wait it out? I emailed the seller but have yet to receive a response. I can file a claim on Amazon after June 1st so maybe shit has yet to hit the fan.

This is true only if you import it. If you buy the local version it has the right voltage. I know for a fact because my brother imported his and needs a transformer, while I bought locally and I don't. The PS3 is universal if you were wondering.

Ok I have a question. Sometimes I have an itch in my legs around the knee area, but it's from INSIDE the leg. It's a very weird feeling and I can't scratch or do anything to make it go away. I'll scratch, hit and whatever, but nothing happens. It will just go away on its own after a few minutes.

I though the ability to feel an itch was just in the first few layers of skin, so it's pretty weird. It only happens very rarely, but it happened yesterday so I though I'd ask. Anyone else ever had that happened to them? or know what it might be about?

I've had several items ordered at once but shipped separately, all with the same tracking # on Amazon (was subscribe & save though). Received them all on different dates. I'd just wait it out 'til you can file a claim; should be ample time for it to get there.

I'm far too removed from college calculus and physics classes to be able to check what you did, but I did watch the episode last night and if I remember correctly, while they said the slide in the video is estimated to be 200 feet, the slide Jamie and Adam actually made was only 165 feet.

Also, while this doesn't have to do with what you posted, I think they really could have traveled further if they positioned themselves in a way so that they'd have less friction with the track (arms crossed over chest, back arched, feet crossed at ankles) so only their ankle and shoulder blades would have been touching the slide. They also should have tried different lubricants because I remember in that banana peel episode they said that soap and water isn't that great of a lubricant.

I liked the episode over all. I wish I could have gone down that slide.

Soo what the fuck is up with Google and their "TiSP" system? My friend was looking up Google's plans for internet and was brought to this page:
http://www.google.com/tisp/install.html
Google TiSP (BETA) is a fully functional, end-to-end system that provides in-home wireless access by connecting your commode-based TiSP wireless router to one of thousands of TiSP Access Nodes via fiber-optic cable strung through your local municipal sewage lines.
http://www.google.com/tisp/images/tisp_diagram.gif
Installing a typical home TiSP system is a quick, easy and largely sanitary process -- provided you follow these step-by-step instructions very, very carefully.

#1 Remove the spindle of fiber-optic cable from your TiSP installation kit.

#2 Attach the sinker to the loose end of the cable, take one safe step backward and drop this weighted end into your toilet.
2_unpack_spool.jpg

#3 Grasp both ends of the spindle firmly while a friend or loved one flushes, thus activating the patented GFlush™ system, which sends the weighted cable surfing through the plumbing system to one of the thousands of TiSP Access Nodes.

#4 When the GFlush is complete, the spindle will (or at least should) have largely unraveled, exposing a connector at the remaining end. Detach the cable from the spindle, taking care not to allow the cable to slip into the toilet.
3_linedownhole.jpg

#5 Plug the fiber-optic cable into your TiSP wireless router, which has a specially designed counterweight to withstand the centripetal force of flushing.

#6 Insert the TiSP installation CD and run the setup utility to install the Google Toolbar (required) and the rest of the TiSP software, which will automatically configure your computer's network settings.
4_plugin.jpg

#7 Within sixty minutes -- assuming proper data flow -- the other end of your fiber-optic cable should have reached the nearest TiSP Access Node, where our Plumbing Hardware Dispatchers (PHDs) will remove the sinker and plug the line into our global data networking system.

#8 Congratulations, you're online! (Please wash your hands before surfing.)

Note: If you have any difficulty installing, operating or simply living with TiSP, we suggest joining the TiSP Help Group.

Professional Installation Service
You can also choose to request our professional installation service, which dispatches an army of factory-trained, sub-contracted nanobots from the TiSP Access Node. The nanobots travel with exhilarating nano-speed through the sewer system and into your home to perform the installation service, which should be complete within 15 minutes. Note: For your own physical safety and emotional well-being and in consideration of the nanobots' working conditions, please make absolutely certain that your toilet is unoccupied at the scheduled appointment time.

In-Commode Package Delivery
With professional installation service, you can also have your Google Checkout purchases delivered directly through the sewage network into your bathroom. Each package comes pre-sealed in a watertight and nanobot-resistant bag made of biodegradable corn-based plastic. For a limited time, TiSP subscribers who sign up for a Checkout account will receive free bathroom delivery on their first ten Checkout purchases.

TiSP for Enterprise
We're actively developing a higher-performance version of TiSP specifically tailored to small and medium-sized businesses, including 24-hour, on-site technical support in the event of backup problems, brownouts and data wipes.

I'm convinced this is the remnants of an April Fool's prank, but my friend insists otherwise.

Ok so I have this pain in my thigh area. I believe its the muscle because I have tried to stretch it and certain stretches bring a massive pain to the area.

It seems whenever I try to twist my body to get up from lying down I feel the pain. I feel the pain whenever I get up from a chair and I have to flex my muscle. I feel pain whenever I sit "indian" style/cross legged. I don't know what this pain is and it has been with me for about 3 weeks - month now. I thought it would go away but now its starting to get on my nerve.

Here is a picture of me laying down on my back doing a stretch. I don't know the name of it but picture my right leg is pointing towards 3 oclock and my left leg is straight towards six. (pardon the drawing, the red is were it hurts)

paininthigh.jpg

I'd like to know what I could do to stop this damn ache/pain. Its really bothering me.

Sit-ups are best for any pain anywhere near your ass or back. After you do some sit-ups each day for a week re-acess how the pain is. Also, you should look for specific stretches to do. Some are strange and you would never figure them out conventionaly.

My question. If I see a lone ant walking though my house should I kill it or not? Obviously it's scouting for food, and although I keep a clean place, so it can rally more ants to join it. So I should probably kill it.

But if I keep a clean house he'll just pass though. There is no love lost killing the guy but it seems like a waste of time. So, kill or no kill?

Basically. 3 days is GUARANTEED 3 days. Ground is anywhere from 3-8 days, so just assume they did give you an estimate, and it is 8 days from when it was shipped. And then you'll be pleasantly surprised when it arrives early (maybe)!

Yeah, makes sense. Oddly enough the ground delivery came before the three day and they were shipped at the same time. :lol

1. Rarely, but I've called Fed Ex and changed the delivery destination or picked up at Fed Ex. The Fed Ex delivery can be different than the vendors though. I live down the street from an Amazon warehouse, so I usually get my packages within a day or two on the cheapest delivery method. Amazon usually estimates it at 3 or 4 days.
2. Not sure about this one, but cost/method is almost always the answer regarding delivery times.

Shit...well ground does deliver on weekends so maybe I can intercept the package before it arrives at the front desk so it's not held until Monday, which would suck.

yeah it seems like their methodology had some flaws.

There were a ton of variables to control for so of course the video was fake since nobody would take such a risk but they should have at least set up a low friction system on rails to see what kind of distance you'd get under ideal conditions.

The stupidest thing was that they obviously have an engineering/physics background so they could have shown the calculations saying it was possible to get enough velocity, but impossible for an actual human to do everything perfectly and not slide around down the ramp.

Why do I wanna hurt myself gaf? Where does that impulse come from, I mean I know about depression/self esteem etc but what's the trigger in the brain that makes me do it?

Bump

Does anyone know where I could find a control list for Fifa soccer 2004 for Xbox? I lost my booklet and I can't figure out some of the controls, even though they are sometimes listed during loading screens, I can't ever absorb all the info.

This question pertains to the open container of alcohol law.

if i have a bottle of vodka and take it somewhere, have a few drinks then throw the bottle back in my car to go home can i get in trouble for have already opened it and driving around with it or is something like that alright to do?

GAF, how can I workout a serious jealousy issue ? Especially towards people getting attention. I feeling like being an attention whore and I hate it. And can I work this out ?

No, that is sovereign Subterranean Manlizard territory.

I assume it would work similarly to airspace regulations, but to be honest, I don't know.

You're thinking about starting an underground horse boxing stadium, aren't you?

Well, one thing that that I do know is that in some states, ownership of resources underneath land (such as water) goes to whoever taps it first, not whoever is on top.

Unsealed is open I believe, but if you keep it in your trunk (not a accessible to driver) you should be OK.

Do something really really attention-whoring that will be mostly embarrassing. Like that Leave Britney Alone video. You will not want any more attention after that.

Why don't we have signatures? Edit: Has NeoGAF ever had them?

I actually kinda like not having one, and I definitely think image sigs are annoying as hell, and I've gotten used to not having one, but I wouldn't mind something like 2 lines of text.

I think sigs of all kinds have a stigma attached to them around here. Probably due to their use on boards like Gamefaqs, IGN, etc.
