Upon first reading: wat.

I think what you're saying in long-winded form later on basically comes to the same reason that if you've got a finite amount of rope, the way to maximize the area is by making a square. Squaring a number (say n) will get you more than if you take (n-d) * (n+d) where d is some other number. I don't know that this has any special name, though, it's just a fact we can calculate.

n * n = n^2

(n-d) * (n+d) = n^2 - d^2

When will the first be greater than the second?

n^2 > n^2 - d^2
Subtract n^2 from both sides
0 > -d^2
The only time it's not true is thus when d is actually 0, in which case you're just comparing n^2 with n^2 and they're the same.

But what that has to do with 0 being the greatest numbers, you've kinda lost me.
 
Alrght having a possessed PC that I'm trying to completely clean out. It had gotten viruses and I replaced it, so I was going to clean it out and possibly give it away. Anyways I tried the system image recovery disc it came with, and it blue screened during the process and it wouldn't work after that. So I went with a clean install and using the windows disc I had the system format and do a clean windows install. The process went through and upon restarting after the boot it just gives a disc read error and won't do anything. I can try reinstalling windows again but it keeps doing the same error.

A few times on boot the boot screen also goes bonkers and some of the characters on the screen become colored, letters changed, and even some ACSII characters like little smiley faces or such appear on the boot screen, but it only does this randomly.

I don't know what the heck is going on with this possessed system, figured the format and clean install would have fixed it as it has always in the past.

I don't agree with this assessment completely, as I think I've heard this expression used in movies long before 1990. However, this is the best we have for now.

anybody have the link for The Subscription Links Thread? I actually created it but can't find it via google or otherwise. Of course I subscribed to it, but it was removed when I was unscrupulously banned.
 
I brought my PS3 to hook up to my Sony Bravia. Everything was fine and it played perfectly. Then I found out that I needed a longer HDMI cable to hook it to other devices in my home theater. So I took it back and waiting for a new one to come. I decide in the meantime I want to play on my SDTV while I wait. No picture at all. Zip nadda. Everything is hooked up right. I checked eight times. What's going on? Does the PS3 save HD settings and when you try to play on SD it doesn't work? If so how do you reset it back in the meantime?

Yeah, just hold the stand-by button till you hear a few clicks, that'll mean it's booting in default display options, you should be fine then.

First time in the USA and I have a question : is slavery a taboo subject in NY ? I was talking with the guy giving me a ride to the residence where I'm staying (he's black) and at some point he started to say that black people were also very represented in south america (like in Brazil) and all the over the world. So I just basically stated that it was because of slavery. And then the guy was kind of upset and said to me that I shouldn't talk about slavery.
So, did I do something wrong ?

It's certainly not a taboo subject, but depending on whom you're talking to, it may be a sensitive subject.

Some people are just going to be sensitive about it.
 
What is up with Baki the Grappler (second series) having a grinding, shouty opening theme, and an amazingly girly closing theme ?

Is this common ? I remember Hellsing having a kickass opening tune and terrible, terrible closing music.
 
My windows media player was working with all my mp3 files yesterday, this morning my laptop (an HP) said wh are going diagnose it and will fix the problem, and i clicked yes. one of those problems was the codecs one. But now all my mp3 files are not working and the player is stating that it doesn't play the type of codec or the compression type. WTF?

can anyone help me with this problem.

How do you link a youtube video but edit it so it shows a band name and song title for example. See it all the time here. Not sure how to do it.
 
Yeah so three times now I've manually turned my PMs on, and it works for a while (shows in the upper-right that I have no new messages, etc.) but then I come back later and they're shut off again.

Anyone seen this before? Any ideas what could be wrong?

Edit: ok so the fable 2 puppet show at fable2.com. When the game first came out I used it and received the hero doll and lionhead tattoo. It showed up in my chest and everything worked out.
I went back to this site yesterday in order to get the chicken suit...
Finished the show clicked redeem prize and it linked me to the xbox website, it didn't seem like it loaded fully but I pressed the next link anyway.
Went into fable to the chest and it said to go to fable2.com so in other words it didn't work. Now whenever I try to redeem a prize it says
Hark there was an error or you have already redeemed your prize. Something like that.

My question is how do I get it to work or does anyone have a chicken suit I can have? :lol
 
Transportation question: I am moving to NYC in the fall for school. My gf will be in studying in Providence, RI. What are the best options we have transportation-wise to see each other? I checked Amtrak and it seems pretty pricey (about 70-80 bucks per roundtrip) and the Peter Pan Bus which was not as bad (60-70 bucks per roundtrip). Are there any cheaper options out there for this commute? Thanks

How large are the rooms where they hold panels? More specifically, what is the maximum capacity for the average room?

As was said, Greyhound. That's probably the cheapest you're going to find.
By the by, New York, NY = Port Authority; not sure why they list it that way.
 
Greyhound goes for $40 a trip but the commute is about double the time... I guess that's the compromise I have to make, ugh... I'll probably shell out the extra 30

it seems like if it was NYC <> Boston it'd be much, much cheaper

and it came with useless programs that clutter the hard drive and make it slow.

How do i permanently delete the programs? I know that simply deleting it doesnt permanently delete it, i need your help :D

whats the best free anti virus/virus protection program to download? is it in that program thread on this site?

Not sure about the programs, other than checking to make sure they're not in the start up menu and going to Add/Remove programs and looking for them there.

AVG Free is a pretty good antivirus software I've used in the past.
