This Vita bundle is insane... (Vita, mem card, AssCreed $179.99 WOW)

Mine came in the other day, and thus far I'm really impressed. Bought Lumines and Persona 4 along with it, and those along with AssCreed, PSA, and the PS+ offerings make it already more than worth it. Plus, man, the hardware is just nice. Really nice.

If anyone's looking for a hardshell case, the Rocketfish Vault case from Best Buy is pretty fucking solid - especially at $20 (strangely, Gamestop offers what looks to be the exact same case for $5 more). I just didn't feel comfortable getting any sort of soft-ish travel pouch thing, since I'll want to stick it in my bag with books and whatnot.

I liked the screen, but holy shit that black smudging is nasty. It was so bad on the left hand side of the screen that it impacted any image that was a solid white or grey (like the screen you're greeted with when you first turn on the device). I could see discoloration in the same spot that the black smudges appear.

I concur.

Hope all you new owners are enjoying it, I love mine. Got it at launch and don't regret a thing. I stopped playing it a little after launch but started up again with growlanser and it reminded me how great this system is.

Launch owner as well. That White Vita bundle was too good for me to pass up. Must say the white Vita looks so classy. I haven't played the Vita in a while, but the PS+ Vita games brought me back.

Took the day to basically load up all the PS+ games. Finally started playing tonight and I'm just loving the system. Honeymoon phase for sure, but I can't imagine putting this thing down. I mean, I played Hot Shots and Lumines for years on the PSP...don't see why that needs to change with the Vita.

Just got mine tonight. Wipeout looks soooo good. I can't wait to play thru Gravity Rush. This thing is sexy, and I hope Sony is able to grow the install base. I want more good games. It's a bit like owning a Ferrari during a gas shortage.

I hear you man, the white is beautiful but then again the machine is in and of itself. I really hope they release the colors we saw at tgs last year, I wouldn't mind a golden yellow vita:)

I've definitely passed the honeymoon phase, I love this thing and if it becomes like the psp and gets a bunch of RPGs ill be all set. I missed a lot of psp games that I intend to rectify with the vita, y's games, tits, and a bunch more. All on this beautiful oled screen.

Remember if you have Wipeout HD on PS3 you can get the vita versions for free. There is a ton of content when you get all 3 on your Vita.

Wow havent had that happen, then again I dont eat a bucket of chicken before I play my vita lol. I try to always wash my hands before I play it though, im kind of OCD like that.

Any reason to expect this bundle will drop to $179 again soon? I missed it originally, and I'm thinking of grabbing it if it's not expected to drop.

I own Wipeout HD and Fury.

What do I do then? Buy WO2048, and that gives me all the HD/Fury tracks too?

Yeah. Download 2048 then go back into the store. The fury/hd bundle is in the wipeout 2048 section of the store. I downloaded that today. It's honestly a little mind-blowing.

Also Gravity Rush is a minor masterpiece. How had I not heard about this game before??

It's been frustrating to obtain the Playstation Plus code from Amazon. Got the AC3 code automatically, then requested the PSASBR code easily enough but after three correspondences with the reps, they seem to think they have already sent it!

No need to buy the game first at least.
On the Vita's store; look for Cross-Play Games, then WipEout 2048. There, you either download HD (300MB) or Fury (280MB) add-ons by separate, or the bundle that has both HD/Fury (580MB).

Read below but essentially yes. I owned Wipeout HD/Fury and when I went to DL them for Vita they showed as free for me, so that should be the same for you, as long as you own Wipeout for Vita.

Sounds great. So basically if I had a Vita that DLC would already be free for me, all I need to be able to play it is WO2048.

Thanks to each of you.

The post was referring to OLED smudges (play your vita in a perfctly dark room), not grease...

Got more into uncharted tonight up to chapter 5. My second favorite uncharted game so far after UC2. Hope to finish it off soon so I can try the other PSN+ games. I do need grips can't find a comfortable way to hold it with out touching the back touch pad.

Brother of my heart!

I'm all about dem yellow everything! My yellow GBC, my Carnival Yellow PSP, my yellow fightstick, my yellow comforter. :3

Downloaded Shinobido 2 and Unit 13 demos.

I was just thinking about the rare good aspects of SOCOM and figured I'd give Unit 13 a shot. :X

Haw!

Shinobido is top priority. Gravity Rush second.

I also snagged the Colors demo, the sony drawing app, and something else.

Are there any good case / stands for the Vita? I'm thinking of using it as a netflix player in my bedroom at night.

I hope to hell Sony gives us an OS update that allows for a grid layout instead of these stupid space wasting balls. So inefficient.

Is there a way to create folders for your games and demos? If not, I want that too.

White Vita is so good in person. Your son would be pretty happy getting your black vita. I actually want Unit 13, but waiting for it to drop a little more.

As far as cases go, I recommend the PDP case.

The pull out case holding the Vita can hold up to 4 physical cards.

Sounds like you might like persona 4 golden, for the vita nudge nudge wink wink. It's full of yellow.

No, I mean a case. Not a purse.

Think I'll go with this. Oreo Vita time! :D

Couple of quick thoughts after an evening with the Vita.

OS is garbage. Icons are ugly, the gestures are not intuitive, and so much stuff seems hidden or convoluted to do. Transferring PSP games form the PS3, and saved games, is done so strangely. Why did they get rid of the XMB? That seemed perfect for touch. I still feel like I don't understand when an app is open or closed and what triggers an app closing or not.

The device is heavier than I anticipated, and the screen, both in colors and resolution, seem to be a bit lacking (but that may just be P3P and Playstation All Stars, the two games I'm playing the most).

AC: Liberation is ugly to look at, with a smear over everything, and a framerate that makes me feel like I'm playing in slow motion. I've only played 10 minutes of it, but I don't know if I'll return to it.

Battery life is poor, and I wish there was a way to display the percentage of battery life left.

I really want a 32GB card, but I can't justify the ridiculous markup.

Device is beautiful to look at, though it is a bit big and thick.

Persona 2 is too expensive:(

P4G should come next week. Can't wait.

Slightly spoiler-y but that smearing in AC3Lib only lasts for about 20 minutes into the game. It's not amazing looking afterwards, but it certainly looks better than that.

Everything else you'll get used to, other than the memory card price rape.

Love my system so far. A lot of little things I still don't understand are slowly clicking together, but I do not regret the purchase. It is a shame my brother doesn't want it, but hell, I am glad to have it.

I even like the Assassin; Creed game, despite it being slow and awkward at first. I do NOT like the weird multiplayer aspect I frankly do not understand, but whatever...

Overall, I say I am glad to have my new shiny white Vita next to my 3ds. They complement each other, one black, one white. One new, one launch-y and old (but I still love him!) I truly look forward to more games in the future, especially once my dang 16 GB card comes.. grr!

Funny, I get most of my stares at the system while doing Near or whatever browsing at free wifi spots. They know it isn't a tablet, but unsure what it is!

oh man, i was so excited that the multiplayer would be like the console versions, but i just got confused, was lost in menus, and left without understanding a damn thing.

Thats what I did/doing.

I bought the white, polished up the old black unit - took the new cords and foam baggies and reboxed the vita as if it were new (I keep shit pristine) - and will be a Xmas gift, for the stepson, as hes envied my Vita since Feb, but I wouldnt let him play it once. Kids dont respect gadgets, the same way an adult does.

I feel kind of the opposite on these two points. I rather like the OS. I liked XMB, too, though, so I would have been fine if they just kept that.

The device is also a lot lighter than I expected.

So playing it in bed in the dark, I noticed the edges of the plastic/glass shell to be glowing blue a bit. Almost like a Tron effect.

I think what it's doing is taking the blue light from the lower-left PS icon and spreading it through the glass, so it outlines the edge of the unit as well as the around the buttons. At first I thought it was this pimp Sony design - but looking at it further, and seeing how inconsistent the lighting is, it's probably just a neat side-effect.

I think the Vita is ok so far. The screen is gorgeous and the OS seems to be pretty good. I like being able to go to the store/browser/near without exiting my game. All the PSP/PS1 games I have showed up in my download list automatically and where easy and quick to download.

I am quite disappointed by the ergonomics of the machine:

  • I hate rear touch.
  • The face-buttons are tiny and hard to press.
  • The sticks are so far down on the unit that my hands cramp while using them.
  • The shoulder buttons feel like crap.
  • The sticks are so close to the buttons/dpad that I wind up pushing the sticks accidentally a lot.
  • It feels heavier then my PSP and is less comfortable to hold for long periods of time.
  • The d-pad is tiny and I don't like it as much as the psp one.

About the only thing I think is better ergonomically compared to the PSP is that it has two functional sticks.

Maybe I'll get used to all of this by playing more.

Dude, this D-pad is probably the best I have ever used on a controller or handheld
and the system is really light.

I agree with all the other stuff however, like how shitty the fucking shoulder buttons are.

Yeah, after holding my other handhelds it's not that heavy. I think it's the awkward, claw-like grip you need to use to hold the system and use both analog sticks and the shoulder buttons.

I loved my Vita, but it was hard to justify keeping it because of the lack of games that interested me :( It's cool reading about all of you enjoying your system and the white one is a nice looking machine!
