DC makes fun of its own mythology all the time. And I love it. Brave & the Bold and Teen Titans Go are hilarious. And they don't negate Dark Knight Returns or New Frontier just by existing.
As I said earlier in the thread, I would absolutely prefer to see a more serious take on the Ragnarok story. But taking a comedic approach is not any less valid. Marvel has always been about fun above all else. See: every Stan Lee comic from the 60s. Stories like Born Again should be the exception, not the rule.

Your Spiderman jab plays into that. When I grew up, Spiderman was already and adult and his stories (or the ones I read) were actually not that colorful, the characters were, but the stories clearly weren't.

Homecoming was a wake up call to me. That was not /My/ Spiderman, it was.. Spiderman the original one. I grew to accept that.

Oh, please. Saying Spider-man isnt known for being a quippy, fun character is like saying Batman isnt known for its' more gritty stories or Deadpool for being foul-mouthed.

Spider-man has been that through EVERY decade.

Yeah, Marvel comics has no shortage of great stories and character studies, but the universe has never not been fun and full of humour. Quips are practically a trait of superhero comic dialog. The medium is inherently silly and writers know this.

You still havent said why youre so accepting of Snyder's 'faithful' Batman and Superman portrayals, by the way.

It all depends on the hit-rate of the jokes for me. I thought Guardians did pretty well in that regard, the sequel less so. It had a negative effect some of the more serious moments and a few of the jokes dragged on too long.

There is nothing wrong with a movie being fun. The best X-Men moments on film were fun ones. DOFP Quicksilver scene, or parts of First Class.The lack of fun, color, and camaraderie, is what always brings the X-Men movies down. FOX can take notes from Marvel imo.

Thor is a character who talks in old english in modern day. Part of his appeal was always rubbing this super serious norse mythology up against modern tropes and expectations.

We had two "semi-serious" Thor films and they ranged from mildly enjoyable to objectively awful. Letting Watiti do a tounge-in-cheek romp with Thor's universe doesn't really damage the brand, and it's pretty clear it was a good idea considering this went from "The Sequel to Thor 2" to "A Heavily Anticipated Film".

Fiction is not dumb for being fiction. Making it dumb and laughing at it is easier than making it good and giving it worth.

There's plenty of (attempted) fun & humor in Tolkien's writing.

Being a comedy or injecting some fun into something like Thor isn't some insult to humankind. Humor is just as apt a form of art as drama when done well ( which is what I presume Taika Waititi has done with this movie based on his resume & trailers) & an abundance of humor doesn't mean there can be no worthwhile drama or meat to a story.

Dude should stand outside of theaters waving around the Ragnarok comic trying to convert film goers to only enjoy the amazing source material that was butchered in the movie. It's the ethical thing to do.

What Snyder did in BvS is make a movie that is about two superheroes fighting each other over a misunderstanding before teaming up to fight the real bad guy.

It's the most cliche thing imaginable, and the fact that he threw in some wikipedia summary tier philosophy and had his characters mope around the screen for a couple hours doesn't make it some flawed but ambitious gem.

It just makes it a poorly executed but expensive movie that mistakes darkness for depth and cynicism for realism, while not believably executing on any of those things.

From a cursory listen the synths in this soundtrack are really overt, especially in the latter half of the OST.

I like it a lot. It all has a vintage feel to it.
