She threatened and assaulted someone using a stolen gun; we're not talking about unpaid parking tickets here.

So how much jail time would you get for stealing a gun from a police officer and using it in an assault if you were a poor black kid?
12, and that would be on a good day.

Is that 12 months? trialed as a minor?

What do you think is a fair sentence?

I don't know, but it is a very serious crime.

I'd prefer a proper investigation into the stolen gun, my hunch is she was shagging a "law enforcement officer" and they can arrest him for having sex with a minor.

So the mother was essentially held hostage by her daughter for a day in order to buy her a car. The mother the next day calls the police and her daughter is arrested. I do not get the bad parenting part of this concerning this situation.

First off I imagine it would be really difficult to turn in your kid no matter what they did. Secondly, she turned her in quite quickly. I mean this is an honors student who was allegedly accepted to Ivy League schools, and as far as we know had no negative fucked up history before this incident. That would be hard for any parent even if they were a victim of their child to destroy all of that.

They would be destroying their daughters life, their reputation in the community, and potentially their relationship with their child. I am not a parent, but I would imagine that this would be a very hard thing to do. And it took her 24 hours to make the right decision, so I say give this particular parent the benefit of the doubt without knowing all the details.

It would be awesome if they didn't put her on their own insurance. She'd be stuck with a car that she can't afford the insurance for.

Years, adult, painted as the next Michael Myers. The length could very depending on the state. Texas? Florida? By the time dude got out we would all be speaking Mandarin as our main language.

I would imagine that a virtual contract signed at virtual gunpoint would be quite easy for the mother to get out of. I think the dealership would void it upon request and even more likely void it if threatened by the situation at hand. As sleezy as used car dealerships can be, I think they will take the car back and try to resell it instead of defending their situation. If the mother wants to return the car I doubt she will have a problem.

Well yeah obviously, but it would be funny if she was stuck with a 3,000 pound paperweight.

In certain instances that would be funny, but she was not some stupid parent who bought her spoiled kid a car. She was gun whipped, and threatened with murder to cosign on that car. I mean I guess she could have called the cops earlier and got herself into a situation where her armed daughter was battling the local police force at the dealership while she was present. Not sure how well that would have worked out for everyone involved.

Can't manage for sh!t
I wonder why the mother didn't want to co sign the car in the first place. It's not like it was a brand new car.

My sister got into an ivy league school with a full scholarship and she didn't even ask for anything. Guess I should count myself lucky.

The mom is stupid. Her daughter threatened to kill her over a car, and she decides to just let it go. Wtf.

lol, Man, my mom would have ended me right there. All 6'1 of me. She would have done some MMA shit to get the gun out of my hand.

A lot of unknown factors here.

How did she get the gun at all? How did a police officer's stolen gun get to her? Did she hold the gun to her mother's head to get her to drive to the car lot? Wouldn't the salesman have noticed a GUN when they were signing? It's not as if they just walk in and walk out in 1 minute, there's paperwork to be done, and I doubt the girl would've been threatening to shoot her in front of everyone in the car lot's business office.

I'm not saying this didn't happen, but there's some very strange holes in the story.
