Tides of Annihilation: Extended Gameplay Walkthrough

We're entering a new action/action adventure game renaissance after a decade+ of Souls-like clones/combat something which can be considered a good thing.

Having said that, while this looks good, I feel like I've played this game a hundred times before, meaning, it doesn't do anything new between the combat, easy auto platforming, bombastic setpieces etc etc...
Then again, maybe we just need a game to be good nowadays (even without any kind of innovation) after the dreadful slop we've been feeding on for the last couple of years (I'd even include something like GOW Ragnarok to the "slop" list).

This looks something in-between Nier Automata, Stellar blade and DMC (but mostly stellar blade), some summon attacks looked like DMC's V's ones which I disliked since V was easily the worst part of DMC's gameplay.

It looks like the most 7.5/8 out of 10 out there if you get my drift, well made/produced but at the same time nothing too exciting.

Guess we'll have to wait and see

For some reason, this game gives me Luminous Engine Tech Demo vibes. Those demoes 10 years ago made my imagination run wild about what new could Square conjure on the (then) next gen consoles, but unfortunately I think the fruit of that was Forspoken (meh at best). This game seems like it has a more focused scope and is even trying to imitate the spectacle of a God of War 3.

A lot of the unknown IPs in the State of Play looked really cool, but ultimately has to be a wait and see.

It plays very similar to Nero in DMC V. Camera angles and level layout, too. I guess it will change perspectives to add variety and for colossal bosses like the one in the trailer.

I am wondering if this is something to do with the camera being far away for a lot of the combat. In Stellar Blade, the camera is pretty close to Eve and the action front and center. In this, there was a lot of times where the camera kind of felt out of the way of the action which did make the combat feel weird.
Stellar Blade camera is annoying when you have to deal with multiple enemies at the same time.

I have a strange feeling that the dev team consists of Tabata guys (or they lowkey got some pointers from SE 😂) but I can’t say. I get a sturdy inspiration from FF13/FF16 and maybe Bablyon’s Fall.

Not a bad thing at all considering we are all inspired by something.

I had the same exact thought

It looked like luminous engine finally come to light

The female character design is awesome.

Seems like Devil May Cry got a new worthy rival. Basic gameplay has everything DMC has + the summons look very similar to Square Enix's Valkyrie Elysium einherjär summons and the elemental gameplay. I love that the game basically Britain through the lenses of Eastern developers, it has great inspiration with the Arthurian Knights names and motiffs + other Celtic and Nordic elements.

The girl called Mordred probably shares heavy similarities to her literature counterpart and must feel like she was born to reign over all. In the Arthurian legend Mordred is portrayed as the illegitimate son of King Arthur in the most modern rewritings. Gwendoly or Gwendolen will probably share the fate of the Legendary Queen of the same name. These two will be basically our Dante and Vergil of the story, with the true villain being someone else like Arthur themselves or King Mark of Cornwall. It'd be cool if mordred dies in battle with Arthur, or at least leaves him injured, so we as Gwendolyn step up for the final fight and end up saving the Kingdom/World and become the new queen.

Sometimes I wonder if it's pure coincidence that another developer just so happens to make a similar title this close to something like Stellar Blade. Even the music is almost there in terms of similarity in a way.

Edit: After watching the entire thing again. It's like DMC Meets Lost Souls Aside Meets a dash of Stellar Blade.

While the ladies look pretty, can't deny that, they also look quite generic. I don't know, it stands out. The rest is cool and everything but the characters themselves so far just seem so generic.

I think it looks solid. Reminds me of Astra Chain with using those summons to help attack/combo.

My only issue is....the level of design and story.

What's with all these new games where it's familiar areas but with weird crystals, floating stuff, time-stuck things? Seems like the new default environment design/story. this game, Expedition 33..I feel like there are others.

Combat looks great but everything else looks like it needs a lot of work, especially the dialogue/VO.

Well, the fighting looks awful. Why do developers do this to most games? It's just a mish mash of colors and stuff all over the place. Not everyone has ADHD and doom scrolls TickTok

It's the most common complaint in this thread, but you somehow don't see it.

So which one of us most likely can't recognize it?
The voice acting is just distinctively british. Is being British a bad voice acting?
I don't find anything else sounding especially bad.

What’s wrong worth it?
Knights, royalty, does fit British. You want them to have Texan accents?

It's not British It's English and as someone who was born and raised in England that's not how we speak, It's not how anyone speaks.... well maybe you do I guess as you do behave like an NPC.

We don't sound like AI robots, These characters sound like they're reading from their scripts It's unnatural and poor acting/direction, You quote me yet nearly everyone has said the same thing in all threads to do with this game I guess everyone is wrong 😆

The voice acting in Xenoblade Chronicles from 2010 is an English cast and sounds superior to this due to excellent direction.

This definitely gives me hope. Battle system is a little slow, but seems like you have a lot of options, so I'm all for it.

I didn't think the VA was that bad. They're doing a bit of over-acting, but I'm assuming the story and dialogue gets cleaned up closer to release.

I was bummed that most of the video didn't feature any giant creatures, but the last 20 seconds threw in a bunch. I'm sold, day 1.

It's this medievalish, harry potterish english.
Believe me. As someone who is not British, this is exactly how everyone think British sounds like.

Anyway. Why does it fucking matter. who cares. It's a chinese game ffs

I suddenly imagined the game in Mexican soap novel style Spanish and now I can't see any other way of playing it....

That annoying fantasy English accent is very grating and will get tired very quickly.
If devs want a non BBC accent, then get scouse voice actors...

Who cares? Obviously a lot of people?. Voice acting quality and delivery is a big part of a game.

I don't care if it was a game from Timbuktu or from the planet Proxima B.... If the voice acting is shit it is disappointing and can detract from the overall experience.

Do you get a kick out of purposely winding people up with shitty illogical opinions?.

A game about neomodern Arthurian classics in a dystopian London is performed with exaggerated British accents. You may find it weird or poorly delivered, but it's consistent.

Now tell me that Bayonetta doesn't have a bizarre English accent.

As someone who lives in London, the accents are the weakest part (fake British accents) but it's not a deal breaker.

FromSoft do an excellent job with a variety of British accents and great writing, but it's unfair to expect a new/unknown Chinese studio to immediately reach that level.

Gameplay looks promising, reminds me of FFXVI.

But it’s not really that bad? Can you point me to a moment in trailer which you think is bad? Maybe I’ve skipped it or I don’t notice

Dude, I would lose my shit if this game came from an alien planet.

I also wasn't bothered by the VAs here, but if so many people are bothered, it must be subpar. Consider yourself fortunate for not being annoyed and let it go. I had no problem with the Gongaga map theme in Rebirth, while many other people couldn't stand listening to it. It happens.

Gongaga theme is great.
You are right. They are wrong. Simple as that !

Enjoy this 11-minute extended gameplay walkthrough of Tides of Annihilation, the fantasy-action game just announced at the Sony State of Play that's inspired by the legend of King Arthur and set in London following an Outworld invasion. This gameplay video showcases our heroine Gwendolyn and her companion Ninian as they search for fragments of the Holy Grail. They'll eventually face off against a boss named Mordred. Tides of Annihilation is in development for PC and consoles.

As for the voices, that's how we sound in every east asian game that I've ever played.

So good. Really excited for this, Wuchang, Lost soul aside, Onimusha 2 remaster, Suikoden 1 and 2 remasters, lunar 1 and 2 remasters, stellar blade dlc, expedition 33, rune factory, legend of heroes remake, and xenoblade chronicles X remastered.
