So I was thinking about why it might be catching people a bunch...
I think the sound in this game has problems. Like, the indicator that enemy Titanfall sometimes doesn't happen when it should. I wonder if sometimes the Nuclear sound isn't playing for people.

Question about Arc Grenades (since I'm kinda new to them)... is the turning speed reduction the same for lower sensitivity players? I find that you can throw an Arc Grenade, Phase Behind, and some people just can't turn around fast enough.
It would be stupid if so.
The question is how this is still the case. I could see it being this way at release - shit happens during development. But it's been more than two goddamn months. How is this still a thing? Does no one at Respawn see most games are filled with Tones? Is no one seeing these clips? Either significantly change the damage of these things or change her mechanics.
The situation reminds me of Evolve where the game launched with one of the monsters laughably broken and it took the devs months to address it in a meaningful way even though people were screaming about that shit by the second day after release.
Yeah I guess we'll get an update in the next days but I don't think we will see any significant changes to Tone tbh...
The balance is fucked by the different classes anyway. First to Fall Ronin is ridiculous, more so than Arc Cannon ever was. Especially since you can't damage him with Rodeo and he basically gets free batteries from it.
Northstar will never get that ability unless she can hipfire Pilots.

also, here's a thing, Gamesager just put out two videos calling to nerf "the only thing he dies by". He's not getting his best score with this build, however, but fuck people who kill him. Maybe stop playing Pilots vs. Pilots? Then A-Wall don't seem so broken?

i don't see a problem with that video. He takes out titans that had close to no health. it's no different from a ronin getting his sword core and going on a slash spree.
the Tone is OP!!! shit is overblown. Tone needs 1 more slight tweak (i've already said what i think should be changed 10000x times) and that's it. Don't push for tone to get over nerfed or else all you'll see will be Ronins and ions.

It's too good not to use! You can get some of the easiest multikills. Against good players it kind of sucks, but most people aren't good. So it's not a problem!
Ronin with Sword Core works well when I'm on PC, but on Xbox, even if I get the jump on a Legion, I can't lower his health without losing almost all of mine at the very least... And then there's the inability to confirm kills because they panic and keep meleeing which causes this weird melee invincibility bogusness.

Tone, on the other hand, she can royally destroy a Titan either because she got the jump on another or because her Salvo Core is active.
I think they failed to make Titan combat more strategic over what they had before.

Yeah I agree. As people get better with their Titan play in general they'll realize that Tone doesn't really have a lot of outplay potential and she can be outplayed in turn--e.g. a very good Ronin will destroy an equally skilled Tone. She's not OP in Titan vs Titan combat. They just need to shrink the hitbox on the 40mm vs Pilots a bit and she's golden IMO.

I dunno. I think it can't help but affect the way I play. On Ronin, I end up playing for the best position to make the most of the blast rather than making the most of Ronin and his abilities. It becomes a waste of a slot AND Ronin for me.
The bolded sentiment is part of why I mostly quit posting in this OT and don't even bother responding to people like Swol. This is just saying "hey, once you're less bad you'll agree that I am right." It's possible to have lots of time in the game, be quite good at it, and still think stuff like Tone is poorly balanced.
I would love it if Respawn would provide some actual explanation of where they are with Tone given how no single thing in the game has been discussed even close to as much.

I would like to see AFKers removed from matches a lot quicker. 15-20 seconds. They're anchors for spawns and when your team isn't great its gets really bad really fast.

A lot can happen within the first minute (especially on Crash Site) and its frustrating to respawn at your original spawn point. Extra points if the original spawn point is at the bottom of Crash Site...
Why is logic like this only prevailent in gaming? Or is this an indication of a larger social problem? People seem to shun opinions of people with experience , knowledge, experts in a certain field.

Yes, I am being purposely hyperbolic and overblown here but come on this is getting ridiculous . People getting mad at others cautioning them on their initial reactions because they have yet to put enough time in with something is so god damn stupid and childish.
No one is saying Tone isn't the most useful and powerful titan in the game but the complaints and cries are overblown. People that have become proficient with other titans will attest to it

Okay, here's my way of solving this, but we're still going back and forth and it's making this OT toxic.
SwolBro, you can disagree with Tone needing nerfs or that she's OP or w/e ~~ however, don't do so by claiming that "experts" know better. I mean, if this game had a Michael Schumacher and we had clips of him destroying Tones, fair enough, but we don't.
Instead, you can debate or simply disagree without referring to people's skill. At the very least, this thread is a community (pun intended). That means we don't comment on how poor someone's gameplay is -- and when you refer to "the good" players, you're basically calling people out as being shit. It's the same if you claim that of their opponents.
Unless Titanfall has a Competitive Mode, people's feelings trump talks of "meta", because as pointless as it is to take a game that isn't equipped for e-sports seriously, it divides the same population that only has public matches to play.
Every time you want to debate or offer a difference of opinion, it's useful to say "why". It's outright useless to say "but a good Ronin"... What is a "good Ronin"? What is this player doing with the Titan?
The "non-good" players learn literally nothing from your post other than the fact that you disagree and apparently they're "non-good".
I know your intention isn't to shit on players. If it were, you'd be posting your best plays, showing off with stats or clips etc. I know you don't have an interest in showing how good you are, so understand that your Tone is, unfortunately, making people feel like they're just bad at the game.
It's horrible because, in a previous page, I tried to turn this elitism Tone into fun banter (very poorly I might add) but that just made things worse. It divulged into "but Hemlok empowers the non-good player".
Also, there's the point that not every single player cares about becoming good. If you can appreciate that, you can see why having a difficult to master tech to deal with the vast number of Tones being useless for a lot of people.
You could be trying to play with people, helping to explain these strategies etc. that's fair more useful.
It's a shame because this OT had a couple of people praising the Campaign and I didn't reply when I should, but also no one else did. Everyone should be welcome, and the infighting caused by this elitism divide is unfortunate.
Now, I'm not perfect, and I welcome any criticism about my posting too;~ though, FWIW, if anyone ever wants to play multiplayer and doesn't have anyone to run with on Xbox or PC I'm almost always down.

What could you do to Tone that would "nerf" it without making fundamentally changing something about how it plays?
The reason why Tone is popular is that it requires a low skill ceiling to be good compared to the other Titans, but I don't know if that's a problem with Tone or a problem with the other Titans.

Spamming of Tracking Rockets. Place it on a cool down. Once people get to a point where they're comfortable enough to switch kits it'll just be another thing for them to tweak.

Yeah, I'd still wish Northstar got some defensive options that actually complement the fact that you're using it as a sniper.
Tone with a trap could be effective as well, since it would punish rushing Ronins and Scorches pretty well. Ideally you never engage a Legion head on anyway for it to matter.
Tone feels like the R201 in terms of being a beginner's kit, and I'm not sure why they put people in Ions first when that requires some thought to use.

The only thing I can think of is that the bulk of the TitanFall player base is remarkably stupid and really bad.
Ive little doubt there are vast numbers of people
A) Never using Tone, unable to figure out just how powerful and versatile she is..,
B) Using her, terribly, and dying a bunch
Both of these in large enough numbers could skew the data Respawn gets to give the impression that Tone is in line with other Titans.
Unfortunately, once you start filling games with players that dont require help putting their pants on, the imbalance becomes ridiculously apparent. But that could be as little as 10% of the user-base ir less.
Youd think the number of people shouting about it and making memes about it on Reddit, neogaf, the official forums, etc would clue them in, but videogame developers can get pretty damn stubborn when it comes to their 'vision'.

Limit one target lock for rockets at a time.
No homing on pilots, period.
Significant decrease to damage over range so that she is no longer effective at ranges that should be the exclusive domain of Northstar.
Much longer cooldown on drop shield.
None of these would significantly alter her playstyle, simply force players to be more thoughtful about using her abilities.

Tell you what. You find a single example of any other Titan doing the same amount of damage in the same amount of time, Ill agree with you.
Ronin is pretty much the only one with that potential, and the skill required is far higher.
What I was trying to say is that guy is obviously a high skilled player. Also I am not saying that Tone is weak or making excuses about it, but are you seriously gonna tell me that you guys play against players that play Tone like that all the time?
I bet that 1 out of 10 matches you will find a player like that, maybe even less than that

The video is an extreme example, but Tone is the most versatile and efficient Titan throughout the skill spectrum.
Will a good player with Titan X beat a bad player with Tone? Sure. The problem is that as the skill gap between players closes, the relative efficacy of Tone has a larger impact on the outcome of any battle before it starts.
The TitanFall 2 dev team has stated repeatedly that the new locked Titan loadout system was inspired by Street Fighter. The idea of hard counters, good and bad matchups. Well, just like Street Fighter has several characters a tier above the rest that dominate tournament play, TF2 has a Titan above the rest that dominates high level play.
And like the Street Fighter team, they should fix it, not hide behind the notion that 'well, the bulk of the pleabs wont even notice'.
at this point though we've all been through the Tone power issue.
It just seems like others don't want to try and become good with the other titans because of how popular tone is. Look how long it's taking people to realize how insane ronin can be. You'll only notice it if you play ctf

I posted that video specifically because it was the top post on Reddit. The whole community has that video to look at. People comment on her being powerful, show in the clip.
I don't feel like Tone needs a nerf, I just find her annoying.
Showing a clip of a Ronin doing well against her would be nice.
CTF is mostly dead in a lot of regions and one of the only ways to play it is through mixtape. Even then, as you say, with slide-hopping the average team can't do anything about it.
Respawn should just add the damn crosshair, you cant stop people marking their monitors with marker or use monitor INBUILD crosshairs etc... so I say it doesnt count as cheating, it counts as missing basic feature.
Im gonna use it since it makes gaming 200% more enjoyable since I know where im aiming at.
I agree, by this point, if the community is using it to make the R97 more powerful, just give us a dot.

I'm convinced that this EPG-1 + Mozambique build is stupid good.
2 shotting Doomed Titans. Fastest Reaper kills, best minion killer, and you got the Mozambique which is basically a super gun. EPG-1 is useful as a Pilot killer too if you're coming up to a bunch or you throw an Arc Grenade first (Amped will almost always kill afterwards).
This EPG-1 glitch, atm, isn't super easy to use and I feel myself getting better at it. Perhaps Respawn may fix the splash damage thing or the quick swap. If they fix both, the weapon stops being useful against Titans. I personally don't want them to fix it because it's not widespread + no one else bothers to use it. It's like a hidden, highish skill-requirement that is fun to see. It reminds me of a bunch of Halo 2 stuff that didn't break the game at a competitive level but was fun to watch. However, as I understand it, the quick swap glitch for Charge Rifle is macro'd on PC so it's a bit of an issue.
