TITANFALL 2 |G2.1| "Whatever The Fuck That Means"

*deep exhale*

Played a few more games and calmed down a bit. While I still think the matchmaking in this game is abysmal, I shouldn't really fault Respawn for the low average IQ of their playerbase.

It's just infuriating when it feels like the necessary infrastructure around the multiplayer experience is falling apart at the seams, because when everything is clicking, and you're playing an even back and forth match, with great titan vs pilot interplay and players that work off each other, on a great map.... there is no better multiplayer shooter out on any platform today.

...ok, except maybe TitanFall 1.

I just wish those situations were the rule, rather than [increasingly] the exception. Crossing my fingers for some adjustments to the meta and some updates to the matchmaking algorithm in the near future.

Yeah that's the way I see it. No matchmaking will improve its userbase (nor is it necessary), for a game like Titanfall fast matchmaking is definitely more important, and providing fun and balanced content is even more important than that.

But honestly, Im just venting frustration. Im tired of starting every game in 2 or 3 on 1s.

As someone who will almost always take a flanking route instead of running down the middle into a meat grinder at the start of a match, I totally understand that frustration. Just have to keep in mind the other team is (theoretically) as handicapped as yours on average and do your best to be aggressive but not outright reckless

LTS= Tone haven.

Yeah, they need another Tone rebalancing and fast. I'm still convinced if they made it harder to hit pilots with the 40mm+sonar pulse did not paint targets it'd be enough to balance her out.

Disagreed. I main Ion and Northstar. Tone is not difficult to deal with in LTS. As an Ion, just have to count the 3 40mm shots and then put up the vortex shield. As a Northstar, same principle but just duck behind cover after the three shots.

I love getting into games where I wreck everyone. I don't want a super competitive game in every single game I play. Titanfall multiplayer is what I play to relax, and it does that job while making me feel good because I'm better than most people.

So Tone is balanced, we get it.

Regarding the skill of the other players I get matched up with - I don't find this to be much different than what happens in a game like COD. Some games I get paired with absolutely awful teammates, sometimes I get paired with stone cold killers. Sometimes everyone is just average. It's the luck of the draw. Some games are blowouts, others are close. I think the fact that the teams are changed up every single match means you'll have less strings of good games - you can't stay on with a good team like you can in COD and win a bunch in a row.

That being said, I only play Attrition, so perhaps the experience is different in CTF or BH.

Also, regarding the statements about some players scoring very few points while others score huge - I've found that I generally have pretty repeatable games myself. But sometimes I will score 150pts because I got that last shot on a doomed Titan and get the +10 rather than the assist, and sometimes I don't. So although I basically play at the same level every game (with a few exceptions here and there) my score can vary widely from 60-150 pts by no fault of my own. I sorta just get lucky with my timing on my bigger games.

Bounty Hunt, Last Titan Standing, Amped Hardpoint, and an occasional Coliseum match. Those are my favorites and almost all I play when I turn on my PS4. So much freaking fun!

Played a bunch more yesterday and today. Disagree that the turret is OP and needs to be fixed.

Its red glow makes it easy to spot and forces you to take different routes.

I actually like it a lot.

In my time with the game, I personally haven't come across anything I would consider OP. I can't recall a single weapon or Titan that has killed me significantly or more noticeably more than any other.

Only thing that bugs me is the range on the Eva shotgun and the reliance on tone due to it being good at everything, but I wouldn't call either game breaking or discouraging. I have more issues with game balance based on population drops which they are working on it seems.

I definitely think tone is OP.

Not to the extent that she's unkillable, but that she is too easy to use and that she has no direct counters. All the other titans have clear counters, but tone is just good against everything.

Couple that with the fact that she's incredible against titans AND pilots, I think it makes her too powerful. I think having a "anti-titan titan" is Ok, but make it harder for her to kill pilots.

One body shot or a couple of splash shots to kill, and it's INCREDIBLY easy to do so.

She's my most used titan because I rarely die, and I wrack up tons of pilot kills. I have been using Ronin more recently, but for some reason I've noticed a bunch of Scorch players, and Ronin is straight up countered by Scorch.

To be fair though, I don't get upset or nervous when I see a tone. I just adjust to it and continue. The only thing that bugs me in this game is people who camp. Like...seriously? It's against the whole spirit of the game. Just go play COD or Battlefield.

Count 3 40mm shots huh. In the middle of everything going on you wan't to start counting? not to mention sometimes you don't know if it hit or not, if the splash damage gave a lock, etc.

It's not that Tone is difficult to deal with in LTS, it's that everyone uses a Tone. There are times where there's 3 or 4 Tones on the other team. That becomes a bit much to overcome. Tone's tracker rockets are what fucks you up the most and the lock on isn't always apparent. The only thing they can do is to either limit the damage from them or prevent sonar pulse from allowing a lock. Tone will definitely get another tweak, too many people are asking for it.

I don't. After a while it becomes completely pointless. What this does is push away anyone that would be actually dedicated to the game, players that would want to get better by mastering all the skills.

I'm sure a majority of the Titanfall player base thinks exactly like you do. It's why it seems like 99% of the population just picked up the game for the first time.

I played a match this morning and went 270 points in attrition without trying. 270 fucking points. Has anyone hit 300 yet? I could of probably hit 300 if i got sweaty and started farming bots.

It's not even debatable anymore
  • Tone
  • Hemlok
  • Devotion
  • Sentry-turret
Are all OP and will most likely get some type of tweak.

While I realize the ctf community on xbox is small, lately i swear the matchmaking is just out to screw me over.

When I'm with a full party we tend to just stomp other teams... And it's not because of our skill, most of the teams we face it's pretty obvious they're new/lower skill players mixed together, not an actual party.

Yet, almost without fail, if i play with only one or two friends all of a sudden we find those other full parties filled with better players. It's insanely frustrating facing a decent/good team and knowing it would be a good match if i had all of my friends on as well. But instead, i get two randoms and most often one (sometimes both) end up quitting or doing nothing to support the team anyway and we get wrecked.

It's not fun to constantly wreck people and it's definitely not fun getting wrecked knowing there's little you can do to change the outcome.

Have not made up my mind about the other stuff you listed, but I defiantly disagree that the turret is OP.

Those things have been consistently brought up over twitch, reddit, and other outlets. There's no way Respawn does not address them. Not to mention they have the data, they'll see how effective those things are.

The turret isn't exactly OP in some modes. In attrition it's merely a nuisance. In PVP? It's fucking broken and in CTF it does nothing but piss people off. I've put a shameful amount of hours already into this game, i know what needs to be adjusted and i'm not alone in this opinion.

They are also his opinions. I really enjoy the added dynamics from turrets.
Yes they are, but try out the Devotion or Hemlock for yourself.
While I'm shit with the Hemlock myself, the Devotion is just stupid.

The turrets track too well sometimes which is a bug (Respawn said so some time ago).

I hang my head in shame! I only play Attrition and have not thought about the implications in CTF.

I can absolutely see it being a problem there.

can you show me your advanced controller settings?

I need to get better at aiming with the controller and am trying different stuff out.

You mean the custom advance settings? I actually don't use it. I want to but Respawn never posted what some of the standard settings actually look like so i could slightly adjust from there. I'm not going to spend hours guessing.

I use "very high" sensitivity with the Elite controller:
  • Two long paddles on the back. Both going downwards. I use my ring fingers, not my index fingers to click them.
  • Left back- Jump
  • Right back-Crouch/Slide
  • Left bumper-tactical
  • Right bumper-Ordinance
  • A- Reload
  • X-Switch weapons
  • Y-boost
  • Right stick click-melee
I do swap presets when i'm in my Titan though. My right back paddle goes from crouch/slide as a pilot to the Titan ordinance and my tactical goes to right bumper, defense on left bumper, Y turns to smoke, B becomes crouch. A and X stay the same.

Sounds complicated but it's not. It's the most optimal configuration i could come up with and it works wonders.

Thanks for the write up but I'm on the PS4 controller, so I can't really do this stuff ^^

But maybe it'll help the others here.

I think it depends on what games you have available. I have a ton of games that are very competitive and/or stressful. I love that TF2 is a relaxing FPS multiplayer game, that I can sit down and just chill out with for 20 mins while my partner takes a shower.

As I said, I understand where you're coming from, I just don't think every game needs to be hyper competitive, and Titanfall 2 is really making me happy because I can relax and have fun with it after a hard day at work.

The small playerbase means that Titanfall can't really be a tryhard game. I guess Colosseum was supposed to be that, but I never really see anyone talk about playing it.

Balance != hyper competitive

I just want to feel like I can switch loadouts whenever without having to worry about a set of weapons being able to reach out and kill me from ridiculous ranges.

Sniper rifles are fine and serve that purpose, but the Hemlok, G2, and Devotion (LMG!) should not be able to crossmap you.

I don't recall TF1 having this issue. The weapon I came across most was the 201 which was great for close and mid range, as were most weapons I feel. That alone encouraged movement. You didn't have these shields you could sit behind while shooting weapons that had little to no spread.

#1 Why do team mates spaz out when they have an enemy rodeoing them? Just sit still and let me punch/shoot it! You moving around is not gonna make the enemy fall off!!!!

#2 Why do team mates not shoot/punch the enemy on my back, especially when I run towards them and there is no other enemy there :(?

i'm usually not a fan of maps that have moving parts but this game could be incredibly fun with moving maps in multiplayer like some of the campaign stuff. They should also consider expanding on what they did in the first game with a "campaign" type multiplayer.
I 100% agree with this.

Guys whats generally the best Hip fire weapon? I hate ADS and been making do with a shotty so far. .

On PC I'd say the hip-fire hierarchy among primary weapons is:

Tier 1 (never need to ADS): EVA-8, grenadier weapons, Volt, Alternator
Tier 2 (ADS occasionally): CAR, R-97
Tier 3 (hipfire is still good but you'll ADS for longer ranges): Devotion, R-201
Tier 4: everything else

(For what it's worth, I "mained" CAR back then)

I don't disagree that the ARs are powerful, but nerfing them entirely basically means making SMGs the only guns worth using. And I know the MLG pro guys here and elsewhere would love that, but that's a small minority of people in an already small player base.

I think at that point people are trying to argue about what type of game Titanfall should be, and when half the maps are basically open fields with rooftops that people grapple to and camp on, that has already been decided before you even talk about the gun balancing.

If you're referring to me, maybe I didn't explain right, but I'm not saying that balance is the same as competitiveness. Although I am OK with the game being friendly to poorer players, with them able to pick over powered stuff. There's not so many players to begin with that TF2 can afford to lose them.

I'm just saying that I don't mind that there's a huge gulf in skill in a lot of matches. I like to be able to just relax with a cup of tea and talk to my girlfriend and still end up first in points. I don't think I'm amazing - I'm definitely not. When I come across someone good, I get destroyed.

I just think I grasped the basics, which the majority of the player base hasn't, and it's fun to be better than them.

I honestly don't think the balancing is nearly as bad as you guys make out.
I guess it depends if you want people to use all guns equally, then you spend all your time tweaking your game like Destiny over and over again, changing gun damage with every major patch.

Like at the moment almost no one uses the grenade launchers. There's no reason to because the anti-Titan weapons are great and you have better options for killing pilots. Should they up the damage of those weapon types to encourage more use?

I feel most people complained about having so few weapons are also the people who complained about the lack of carrot on the stick. Their philosophy for TF1 was spot on. I wish that had carried over.

I don't want the ARs to be useless, I just want them brought in a bit so that they're not so effective in the ranges that are usually reserved for the DMR, Kraber, and Double take. Theres overlap where there really shouldnt be, at least to the extent it currently is.

I agree, the maps largely contribute to the way the game plays.

To me, its not fun having such a huge gap between players. You'll either steam roll or get steam rolled. Its boring. There is no satisfaction in beating people who are clearly less experienced. It might as well be PvE at that point.

There are several things from weapon balance, matchmaking, and map design that I feel could be improved. I understand its not easy, but Im hopeful Respawn can find a solution.

lol that's pretty much why I like it. It feels like a better version of the single player content.

Sometimes there are matches where it gets competitive, and they are fun, but I don't play Titanfall 2 for competitive stuff. I don't think it's designed to be a highly competitive game or esport. It's just a crazy fun multiplayer game.
