Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

I think this games biggest issue in a nutshell is the epilogue.

Run through a wide open space with no cover and no ability to parkour around and hope your glowing red outline isn't noticed by the other team.

So fucking disappointed by this game.
 
I just played 3 rounds. I killed a bunch of pilots and some titans, it plays well I think but I'm not a fan of the game, it's just not for me. I hope they continue to fix the issues for the fans of the game.
 
More with new map, yup it sucks. Just a big building in center with giant open areas all around it, awful. Very little vertical gameplay.

Speed does feel slightly better. TTK still is too fast.

The problem with too many Titans people are seeing: It's because they put the auto build up timer in this time, and it's building at the exact same rate for everyone. What's this do? Well almost everyone is getting titan spawns to hit at almost same time, so suddenly one whole team has Titans at the same time! Titanfalls were more spread out with how you build up your titan meter in attrition and other game modes, but this new system they are trying is bad because it's causing everyone to get titans at same time.

Titan speed, I think they needed to show us all the titans perhaps to really see how things feel, the two in game currently feel clunky and slow
 
One round of pre-alpha was enough for me; this game is a fucking mess in comparison to Titanfall 1.

Unfortunately I will have to cancel my PC pre-order and take a wait-and-see approach at this point.

How could they fuck this up so bad?
 
I'm largely enjoying what I'm playing, but there here are a couple of thoughts:

Every single match that ends in defeat, I'm the only member of the team who ever makes it to the dropship. Are players not picking up on this? For that matter, it feels like most players aren't even aware of the main objectives of the non "kill everyone" modes.

The lack of electric smoke (outside of the rare awards) is horrible. 9 times out of 10 your Titan is completely at the mercy of an enemy pilot, and as long as you don't have any smoke, an agile pilot can hop on and off your Titan at will without consequence.
 
Customizing the titan loadout was so good in TF1, with the 3 base models to choose from.
The titans in this tech test are a joke. Makes no fun anymore.
Wish they only would made a remaster from TF1.
 
I want this game to succeed more than anything; maybe they have an Angel City remake in there?

Still buying the game to support Respawn.
 
Reading the impressions of the new map is the most disappointing thing I've read so far and I haven't got a chance to play it yet. I thought it looked better but I saw maybe 2 or 3 minutes worth of video. I am still going in with an open mind though, I really want this game to be great.

But yeesh, first 3 maps you show to the public are getting hammered, things aren't looking good for the final game no matter how much the mechanics get tweaked.
 
Did this actually ever happen in other games before? For sequel to have maps from previous games. I never really played multiplayer shooters other than Titanfall.

Left 4 Dead 2, on PC at least, added every single campaign/map from the first game in as free updates. (which is what TF2 should do)

And yeah, it happens all the time.

Gears 2 launched with the flashback map pack which featured 5 maps from Gears 1. BF4 had a pack which featured 4 BF3 maps as well. There are other examples but those two are the model I'd like Respawn to follow.
 
How many others think that the evacuation ship in the end feels so out of place, that's something that I just don't understand. Its like its just added in the end
 
OK, the new map is the worst of them all by far.

Just wide open spaces, no verticality and the only enclosure are long corridors with zero cover.

Thats painful to read.
After watching a brief video of the new map I had hoped it was closer to TF1 :(

I'm booting it up in a few but man, what a disappointment this has been.

This test has really soured me on the game to the point where I just throw a grenade at the nearest wall to kill myself rather than even bothering to head for the ship because I know I'll just be instantly killed on sight thanks to the low TTK.

Both Titans have electric smoke I just realized. No idea how it's earned though.
Oh wow, never even knew this. Googled it and apparently I'm not the only one. Seems like it's assigned to left on the D-pad and you can only use it one the core charge reaches a certain level :/ Another one to add to the list of stupid, unnecessary changes.

Definitely need both of these. It's stupid that enemy players are given a UI indicator of where my Titan will drop.

I always used Warpfall to squash other Titans quickly, with the indicator now, it's pointless. Also, Warpfall doesn't get a dropshield.

It's so poopy.

Guys, I really doubt there are only 6 maps in the game, (unless that got confirmed?) I'd expect 10 at least with the single player probably taking up resoruces compared to the first game

It's so sad to see that atrition is probably gone. Playing Bounty Hunt you can see how brillant atrition would be in TF2. :(

Titanfall 2 website has six slots for MP maps which might indicate that there will be only six MP maps at launch. It would not be the first time when introduction of a singleplayer mode means that there is less content for the multiplayer mode.

Yeah, I refuse to believe only 6 maps will be available at launch.

They REALLY need to start showing some footage of these "classic" titanfall maps, the stuff we're getting to play is rather embarrassing.

I noticed that! What's up with the enemy seeing where the Titan would drop? That was one of my favorite things from the first game.

You're only seeing where the AI Bounty titan is coming in. So yes you see Bounty titan drop locations, but not those of enemy players.

Yeah, I figured. I think the maps are good, and maybe slight tweaks can be done later. In the meantime, I just need to learn all the nooks and crannies.

What a mess. I feel like they could end up making it worse butchering it trying to appease people by October. I can't see anyway this turns out well at this point. I would so fucking love to be wrong and for Respawn to make me choke on my own words.

SOCOM II had every SOCOM map day one, some changed a little bit (like daytime to night) plus many other glorious maps.

Anyways, reading these new impressions has me butthurt all over again. So mind boggling why they'd make so many changes to what was sheer perfection in MP. Adding a good SP and launching on PS4 this time would have been more than enough for super success.

You have to fucking EARN electric smoke? lol.
 
I don't think electric smoke is so important with rodeo changes (and I like new rodeo), I don't mind the change.


COD and Battlefield have both done this.

Any chance of adding a 1st person view for titan embarkment and executions as an option? In the first game it really added to the immersion and made you feel epic, I don't really understand why it was changed.
 
The changes did nothing on me. Other than slide and grapple, I see nothing that is actually improved from Titanfall.

Just realized the commentary from your superiors over the radio is gone. One of my favorite things about the original, listening to them talk about kills you get, especially goosers.
 
I don't know why but I keep ending up in really unbalanced games. Twice now half my team isn't even playing. Bad luck I guess.

Dear Respawn, please make it so that pilots by default stay on the Titan. Otherwise it's almost impossible to ever eject with another pilot. I've been trying to force it but... =(
 
Played a few rounds and while the movement speed increase isn't that noticeable (which I'm OK with), the Titan timer is! I think I must've gotten a Titan midway of the first AI grunts in Bounty. Super fast, like in just 2-3 minutes? Dunno. Not complaining though.

Really not a fan of Bounty Hunt, would rather have TDM or something, but yeah, I think I"m sold. Not that hot on Kodai too, but I'm optimistic on the other maps. :D

That was just a masterpiece of a map - never got bored of it.

Yeeeeeep. Angel city was incredible.

Was coming in to say after playing a decent bit today the most disappointing thing of all was the maps. They are just so poor compared to what was in the original :(

I'll be passing on this game... But ultimately I just feel sad about how this game turned out.
