Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

I think the whole amped thing is a nice twist on it. I think it'll take some time to see the full implications.

Right, getting a feel for a game like this takes time. It took me a solid month until i started to actually enjoy Titanfall 1.

And the people that are saying the game is slow... it's not. Bounty hunt does seem slow, but the 8v8 pilot v pilot is fast and pretty intense. i can't imagine what a match of CTF with good people is going to be like

Well done playing for the night I maxed out at 15 played more today than I planned but still not feeling it. Not a bad game just not titanfall I wanted. Just a missed opportunity.

I was watching some random streams and people were playing PvP by just sitting on rooftops with a sniper rifle. Genuinely broke my heart to see Titanfall being played like that.

Why? titanfall 1 8v8 was nothing BUT snipers. it was way worse than this. you can move so fast in this that getting to a sniper or around him isn't much of a problem though. i'm really impressed with the pilot only mode in this. they did a really good job with it.

Finally got around to playing this. So disappointed. Titanfall was / is amazing. This is not, primarily because of the lack of chaos. Titanfall was a nerve shredding, adrenalin driven experience. This is an fps that feels a bit like Call Of Duty.

In Titanfall there was verticality in spades and you felt like you could go anywhere. Here "return to battlefield" crops up a bit too often and everything feels smaller, lower, less interesting.

In a Titan the grunts look much bigger. As a pilot, the titans look smaller.

Basically, for me Titanfall 2 loses the excitement, freedom and scale of Titanfall and replaces it with camping and homogeneity. Glad they had this test, I was definitely buying the game but I'll save my money now.

I'd have cheerfully paid full price for a new set of maps, rankings and achievements for Titanfall. Sadly, nothing was broken but they fixed it anyway.

What do you all make of the pilot designs?

Gotta say, while the human characters are cool in a genera-future kind of way, I'm really digging the robot designs. I like the little quirks like the Davy Crockett racoon tails. I hope there's more stuff like this and that it's customisable to some extent, although I would understand if they were to go the "hero" route for the pilots as well, in order to make them and their abilities more instantly recognisable in the field.

Also, just think about it...you're playing as a robot...who then pilots a giant robot. Got that cool anime romance thing going on!

Stim + Mastiff + Pistol is my new shredding build for Bounty. Crazy how fast I can get a Titan now. I wish I had an anti-Titan secondary but with how often I get one myself I don't need it much anymore. It's hilarious making tonnes of money during the wave and then disembarking near the bank and hitting L1 to go into warp speed to deposit my cheque.

The Alternator SMG is fun to use but the side to side recoil is so crazy. Hopefully there's a upgrade on SMGs to dampen recoil.

haha yeah, it's really cool. very under appreciated what Respawn did with the new models. i think they're great.

Nope. For the Hardpoint in the first game they specifically nerfed the point gain for defense to promote offensive playstyle. This promotes camping.

Wow, they reduced it because it was too easy to get points back then for defending, not to promote offense.

Also it's laughable that you claim it promotes camping in a mode about defending hard points. My answer is - so what?

False. They wanted to encourage people attempting to take all 3 points to allow for comebacks etc. Hardpoint was very offensive after that update.

Well I say that, but everyone was busy getting murdered by scrub Satchels lmao (those were the days).

Man, all these TitanBrehs are on fucking PS4. I hate all of you.

edit: am I the only one who didn't like the update that gave Titans priority over Pilots in Hardpoints? =S

Really? A month?

Yeah I loved Titanfall almost from the first match of the beta. I was lucky enough to play on Angel City first go. Fucking amazing.

I think it took me until the very end of the Beta before I got hooked and understood how to play Attrition. A month in I probably played 200+ hours haha

edit: Hmm, Xbox reports that I played Titanfall for 390 hours. Whoa, including all game types (as well as LTS farming, and Goose farming) my MVP rate was 57% from launch. Probably my best game.

One issue I see is an AFK has been on my team 3 consecutive matches. Boot the cunt already.

I had to go help my kid with a bloody nose last night mid match and fell asleep with her while comforting her.

I woke up five hours later and I was still afk'ing through matchmaking.

Edit: playing again this weekend and the movement changes do help. I do still kind of prefer the first, but TF2 is no longer terrible.

It does really need attrition and also bots in all modes. Feels empty as shit without them.

Make those two changes and return Titan multitasking and the game will feel pretty legit.

The maps are definitely not the best, but hopefully respawn can fix that.

Oh dear god I just played a BountyHunt match. I would kill to have footage of the entire game. I was wall running getting overkills, not missing a single shot with my Titan beam, killing 3+ titans per Titan I was using. Fucking golden match. Definitely ending the beta on that note.

46 - 2

Why can't you dig up the footage? Doesn't the PS4 save all gameplay in the background?

I can't imagine that you were playing objective with 46 Pilots kills though haha, time-outs in that mode shouldn't happen.

I'm on Xbone, and it only saves the last 5 minutes of gameplay. And I was playing the Objective as much as one could in Bountyhunt

I am enjoying the beta but I do not think this game is a day one full price game for me. Too many other good games coming out where this game feels like a nice "20 minute break from my other games" type of game.

Think I got enough fill of the game for me to call it.

There is still somethin good here but something about the hook isn't flowing right. Idk if it's the geometry of it all or the maps but I think it is throwing it off for me at times. But when all of the games systems click it really is something special

Overall Im not sure I wil get this day one. Even tho I am a little tired of the 2 other big ones that will release in the fall, I don't know if right now I would choose this over them. But I think their real threat they are going after is CoD since BF scratches a different itch.

Idk well see what happens when this launches maybe I'll just get it. Thanks for the test Respawn. Even if yall a remenant of the old IW yall were still one of my favorites over the years.

Okay, I'm uploading a full Bounty Hunt match. I played to win so it's kinda boring but that should be my final clip I'll upload. Raw gameplay, no music and all.

Mad disappointing you know. I just don't understand why Respawn took their masterpiece and fucked with it. Did they accidentally delete their internal build or something?
They made a fatal mistake that many developers make on sequels.

"Let's not embrace what makes us different and instead make our game more similar to what's already out there."

I have no idea where Respawn got their Titanfall 1 feedback from because it differs greatly from what I was hearing.

- Single player campaign.
- More content in multi-player.
- Put it on PS4.
- SOME players didn't like the AI.

This is pretty much all I heard when it came to Titanfall 1. The great news is that Titanfall 2 addresses all of this. SWEET!

What I don't understand is all the other changes. So many tweaks all seemingly designed to lesson our fun with the game. Like when you're in school and the teacher tells you not to run in the corridor.

What we wanted from Titanfall 2 was a game that BUILT on the first one. We wanted Titanfall 2 to tell us "YES YOU CAN and here is some new shit to play with."

The grappling hook and sliding are FANTASTIC additions...

BUT!!!

You have the shitty level design which is Titanfall 2 telling you "Dude, sorry about wall running. That was a mistake. Please drink responsibly".

For every new improvement or addition, there's two others telling you that you've been doing it wrong this whole time.

I remember when Activision fired Vince Zampella & Jason West after Modern Warfare 2. I remember them starting up Respawn and taking a chunk of Infinity Ward staff with them.

For the next 5 years I didn't play a single Call of Duty game. I only wanted to be a part of whatever Respawn was doing and was willing to wait.

Eventually Titanfall emerged from a difficult development cycle and it was awesome. Loads of room for improvement but it also got loads of things right. Never the less I was glad I waited.

I used to think Respawn were one of the coolest developers around. Whilst Battlefield was putting me to sleep and Call of Duty was too busy jumping the shark, Titanfall was there bringing back the fun and excitement to FPS.

That's what makes Titanfall 2 such a let down. I thought the sequel would be a sure fire hit but alas I'm getting a game that regrets all the fun times we had.

I now have an awkward relationship with Respawn whereby I try to read all their comments/interviews/etc to try to understand what's going on. Every time I do my brain keeps telling me, these guys are ashamed of Titanfall 1.

I try to look for the positives and then I remember that this is the game that can't even get the Titan ejections right. Why the fuck are they so low now? Who walked into the office and said Titan ejections were too high?

Why does everything remotely cool about Titanfall have to be toned down for the sequel?

For a game that loves to tell you that you can amp shit up. Ironically it's the game itself that needs amping up.

Finished with 686 Titan Bux (didn't buy anything) and an optimistic outlook. Still nowhere near as good as the first game, but it kinda grew on me the longer I played. I'm hoping the full game has enough to keep me going for at least a little while.

Digging the alternator over the car and as far as controls go I think im sticking with Evolved, 1 sensitivity and the classic aim.

Phew, hit LV15 tonight just before close. Had a really great time playing it. It was a bit overwhelming at first (especially the UI and some mechanics of the Titans) but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. I only played a few hours of the TF1 beta on PC but I really enjoyed this. I think I'll pick it up.

I loved Bounty mode. I'm not sure why so many people hate on it... is it because it's not Attrition? (That's not really a valid criticism, in my opinion.) Is it because you just don't understand how it works? (It took me like 10 matches of it to understand it and then another 5 to fully understand. Map memorisation also helped with enjoyment of the mode.)

The MM was blazing fast and connections seemed rock solid although I don't have the greatest wifi connection in my apartment. I hope it works like that on launch day.

Things I still haven't figured out:
- What the red/blue bar on the left of the Titan HUD means. Is it a shield? Is it the time it takes for my alternate fire modes to begin their cooldowns? (It took me a really long time to figure out that firing my primary took away some of the secondary attacks like Ion's shoulder/splitter laser)
- How do you trigger Pilot execution animations? Melee someone from the back?
- Are the red highlighted weakpoints on an enemy Titan (when you are a Pilot) susceptible to damage from a Primary weapon? (EPG not included.) This was confusing because some builds I ran didn't have an anti-Titan Secondary, meaning I wasn't sure if I was able to do damage from shooting an enemy Titan's weakpoints (when the UI suggested) if I had a Primary or Secondary like the 45-Auto Pistol equipped.
- Does your Titan's Electric Smoke damage enemy pilots who are on your Titan, in Rodeo state?
- When you Rodeo an enemy Titan and its Battery socket is empty, do you always drop in (what looks like) a Frag grenade or does it depend on the type of Ordnance you have selected in your Loadout? (Furthermore, is there a way to see when an enemy Titan can has an empty Battery socket? On the UI? On the Titan's model itself? I ask this because it'd be nice to know if you'll be doing damage or stealing a Battery when you decide to put yourself in harm's way to try for a Rodeo.)

I Think bounty hunter is a good mode, it's just not a good replacement for attrition.

I'm still baffled that there are people who play with default control scheme ie jump on face button. What are you doing?

I need to get one of those damn paddle pads.

I'm plenty proud of Titanfall. It was so satisfying, after working on five SP campaigns, to finally get to make a MP game. It was great to have the chance to chuck the rule book out the window and write a new chapter for shooters, while also getting to do so many new things at once. The flavor text on the Burn Cards is the vast majority of the in-game writing I've done, for example.

I would say don't judge Titanfall 2 until it is released.

aaaand another happy hour done (^____^)

I don't know what to say really... I mean, it seems at this point like I'm very much in the minority, but I truly did adore what I played.

Seriously, I probably put well over 10 - 15 hours into the tech-test alone and I just couldn't stop playing.
The gameplay hook is still very much there and if Respawn goes back and adds that signature Titanfall flare IE: chaos, AI, attrition, etc., then this will be amazing

Upload Studio sucks, the download broke. I'm going to upload it from the laptop like I should have from the beginning. Damnit.

I think I'm going to pick this up. I was hesitant at first for a few reasons, and GAF's negativity made it worse. But after playing about 15 hours or so, I'm really liking it. Bounty and PvP are both fun in different ways, the gameplay is amazing, the maps are serviceable, the weapons feel great.

I still think the ttk is too fast, I still think there are some issues with the map flow, but besides that I'm hopeful. Fingers crossed that there are a lot more weapons/upgrades.

Imo they had gold dust with titanfall 1 and it blew away somehow but they managed to catch a small fraction of the dust and replaced the rest with a bag of cheetos powder.

Should I try to put music in the full match clip or nah? I was thinking of putting TF1 music in. Man it's so empty without anything
