Titanfall - One year later.

While I enjoyed Titanfall a lot they have to do a couple things before I drop money on their game again.

1. A fleshed-out single player not the joke they tried to pass off as a campaign. I mean seriously, a couple voice overs during a regular match of attrition?

2. Greater variety with weapons/gadgets and possibly mech chassis. While it's true most player will gravitate towards the most efficient weapons anyways, trying out different combinations and using different weapons adds a lot of longevity.

3. This one is not quite as vital, but some slight tweaking on the current games modes.

The TDM (Pilot Hunter) mode they have currently isn't really that fun, and could use something (higher player count maybe?) to make it more fun. Attrition is fun but a bit short with whatever team getting the early lead usually winning so maybe requiring more attrition points would counteract that a bit.

4. As much fun as the smart pistol is, dear god it's almost required for attrition because of how fast it kills the bots. I get about 80-100 attrition points in a game using it versus like 60 without it. Really needs to be reworked.

It was either going to be exclusive, or it wasn't going to be at all. I'm glad TF2 is going to be multiplat, but MS stepping in was the only reason it even got finished.

LMAO...yeah right.

Just like they saved Tomb Rider and Sony saved Street Fighter right?

It was timed exclusive until the 11th hour, a change that the devs where unhappy about.

Please get the facts right and stop propping up a myth.

I absolutely love the game. I just wish I had teammates to play it with on a somewhat consistent basis. I play on Xbox one. Are any gaffers here interested in playing sometime?

Smart Pistol is the worst weapon of all time. Please don't put it in the sequel.

I tried the for free on the EA free weekend thing awhile back... Quit in less than 15 mins entirely because of that fucking weapon. Seriously wtf were they thinking. It's jot worth 5 dollars while this weapon exists.

improvements id like to see in Titan Fall 2:

-if it was possible id love for EA and Respawn to move the Titan Fall code from the Source engine to the FrostBite 3. i just think the FrostBite 3 engine could allow bigger more impressive maps, destruction, and an overall more visually impressive game.

-create a character feature and be able to customize your titan/pilot.

-more elaborate maps. id really love to see respawn play around with more verticality by creating maps with tall buildings in city scape settings that could facilitate movement from building to building without ever touching the ground. itll also be cool to have the map design hide titans more so that you could maneuver your titan around a map and not be so out in the open. id also like the idea of maps being in big open plains of space where titan on titan combat coukd really shine. (more verticality, larger maps, more open maps)

-8vs8,16v16, and 32v32 multiplayer

-dynamic weather on maps

-multiplayer only, no campaign mode

-theater mode and spectator mode

-fewer gametypes, be good at a few types and cut the redundant gametypes

I just want the same base game but with more of it.

Keep all the main aspects of the 1st game and just add more modes, more optimisation, more maps, more weapons, more titans and a heck of a lot more customisation with free maps updates and have the game monetized via the customisation items (and I'm talking decent customisation items, not just BLUE weapons etc - I'd rather this than paid map packs) AND cross platform play (i know this one is a very long shot, but pad control is great in this game, even vs M/KB).

Give me that and I'll likely buy it, my only real issues with the 1st game was lack of content, paid map packs and a bit of a gripe with certain modes being made into attrition mark 2/3 (CTF and HP) with some bad adjustments.

I'd love to see an elevated player count. Hard to say how big though. At least 8v8. Probably at least 16v16 though for sheer insanity.

There are so many things that just tanked my opinion of Titanfall coming from an old school shooter player who was excited for a step forward in the direction of mobility (a step toward getting back what we have lost over the past decade of console shooter design). The bots everywhere doing nothing but muddying up the battlefield and introducing randomness so that you are never in a fair fight, and bad players can feel good about their killstreaks on braindead AI were awful. The unlocking system (especially in a small team based game) is something I am against in all competitive shooters. The fact they give you all these mobility options and then the gunplay is 95% CoD which is based on ADS'ing every 3 seconds instead of the freeaim from shooters of old. And finally the smart pistol is probably one of the most insulting inclusions into an MP shooter I've ever seen, and just shows how uncertain they were about putting a high mobility game into an FPS market that plays using thumbsticks.

Yeah, I've been playing a few matches since the map packs became free. I'm not a big fan of some of them, but pretty much all of the on disc stuff was great.

The dynamic between pilot and robot is still a lot of fun.
The movement in this game is beautiful.
It really is. Makes it hard to go into other MP shooter.

Watch the video in the OP.

The bots were awful they have no place in a competitive Shooter. I play MP games to match wits With human counterparts. Shooting bots gave me no satisfaction at all.

The boys aren't here for your satisfaction.

And the bots are an essential part of what makes titanfall Titanfall.

Now thats it's been a year and it's built up a fan base, allow me ask an honest question that I hope doesn't come off as trollish:

What do you as a Titanfall fan think accounts for the failure of this game to become the next big thing - as many gamers, the media, and Microsoft told us it would be in the months leading up to it's release?

Titanfall has ruined most shooters for me, like how just cause 2 ruined sandbox games for me. They're just too good at what they do, so good that if I'm playing something else in the same genres, I look down on them.

If you don't learn the more advanced techniques (which the game does nothing to teach you) it would become very boring after the initial wow wears off.

It almost causes my physical pain to watch people run on the ground longer than absolutely necessary.

Your post actually explains Respawn's rationale pretty well. Mass market FPS games are played by more than the most competitive gamers. You might not like their design decisions but IMO they created the best MP game so far this gen. For all its warts, TF offers incredible flexibility in its gameplay. It can be truly glorious in the hands of a competitive player or a lot of fun in the hands of a casual.

i get the feeling that everyone knows that the inevitably better sequel is gonna be so good that we all gave up on the first one

just the game itself. its a AAA fps but a very budget one and it seems like the basics of the game are there and done very well, but other things are a bit not up to snuff and it shows in the overall product. i think the game budget, development issues, and it being the first title from respawn contributed to the games failing to be the next big franchise. i think titan fall 2 will fix these issues and be a big franchise for EA down the road.

Absolutely great game, can't wait for the sequel. The movement in the game was phenomenal and I have a feeling it will be unmatched for a while.

To truly master the movement and flow of Titanfall is akin to learning combos in a fighting game. Lots of people never bother to advance much past the basics and reverted back to COD tactics. Also, the game was pretty barebones upon release. A multi platform release will do wonders for the series.

What are the advanced techniques in Titanfall? The wall running seemed really easy to get into and the game is pretty self explanatory.

I honestly felt like I'd seen and experienced everything after a couple of hours of play; the game didn't feel that deep to me.

The bots is what actually gave me more satisfaction. Running around at fast speed trying to differentiate the difference between a bot and a real player at a quick pace feels great.

I'd play it over any Call of Duty, at least as far as Multiplayer goes.

The most fun I had with a FPS in years. I just got burned out on it early because there was so little content at launch. But the movements and the Titans make this game so fun and fast-paced.

I hope Respawn fixes some things in the sequel.

And personally, I like the bots. They add scale to fights.

I don't buy that nonsense.

They can claim whatever crap they want to, but its all fallacious. You think EA wasn't going to finish the game? PLEASE!

The game would've gotten made regardless and it would've been far more profitable multiplatform.

There's people who believe Capcom wouldn't have made a Street Fighter game without Sony's help. People will believe almost any line when console allegiances come into play.
