From The Digital Bits:
We've got some BIG DVD news for you today. Paramount is holding a special event next week to announce the fall DVD release of the Titanic: The Definitive Special Edition. We expect to have all the details on Tuesday afternoon, but as we've reported in The Rumor Mill recently, our sources tell us to expect a 2-disc and 4-disc set, patterned after New Lines Lord of the Rings DVD releases. The 4-disc will have the film spread over 2 discs for maximum anamorphic widescreen video quality, along with deleted scenes, literally hours of behind-the-scenes material, audio commentary and much more. Stay tuned on this!

Wonder how much deleted stuff is on there. Cameron has said he could do an 18-hour cut of the movie if he wanted to.

So about 15 minutes added to the beginning, gotcha.

My sister convinced me to pay to see this shit, I had lived through the hype until that! IT STINNNKED! :(

The theater was filled with teenage girls doing randomly unlogical MS3TK emotional comments at that. The week after, I went to see Lost in Space just because it was THE movie to steal the spotlight from Titanic, I felt kinda like, I had done something noble.

It should come with an ability to create your own edit...such an unecessarily long movie, jeez. Cameron just can't get enough of Cameron....

18-hour cut? C'mon! A script that long wouldn't have made it through the studios. Maybe he shot hours of the boat breaking apart or some nonsense, but I doubt that there is that much substatantive deleted material.

Cameron has said quite a few times that he had more than 18 hours of usable footage shot. That's one reason he didn't want to sit down and do an extended cut right away.

I bet 15 hours of that extra footage is Kate Winslet topless. Cameron just had to get that scene right.

Seriously though I bet most of the footage of the real underwater wreck, they probably went down there and just shot hours and hours of film.

How about alternate endings?

:)

although not a great movie, i will be getting this for the commentary track, hopefully there will be no moronic 'guests' to interupt the tyrant whlst he is speaking.
like the moronic Wisher in T2.

I loved Titanic, and have been waiting for this DVD release, bring it on!

Oh and, haters be damned.

To each their own tastes, your opinion I guess is as good as mine. :)

It's mostly against the gargantuesque hype that preceeded and followed the movie's release I am bitter against. Geez, I remember when that Titanic adventure game (really great game btw), was the best seller of the year just because of it's title. And when the next game the studio released beared a tag with the Titanic name almost as big as the original's game very own title. And when out of the blue a The Abyss game was made, with Titanic's director, and the movie's title displayed in the same proeminent ways. Of course, I won't go on about the iceberg watter bottles craze, nor the Celine Dion abomination, nor the soundtracks, nor the... but you get what I mean?

Anyone remember how it was to EXIST in North America while that hype prevailed upon everything else under the sun? Jesus! :lol

Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on

Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we’re gone

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we’ll always go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

You’re here, there’s nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
We’ll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

I'm amazed that it's taken the biggest box office hit ever (and yeah I know it isn't when inflation is accounted for, but fuck inflation) this long to get a worthwhile DVD release. I'm interested in seeing how well it does at retail. I can't see it being as successful as the theatrical release per say, partly because I think the ridiculous box office success it had was an anomaly...one of those catch lightning in the bottle kind of things that was simply freakish. But I'd be fascinated to see if I could be proven wrong.
