Chad face sums up the ending quite well.

Man what is it with the MC having whack hairstyle after a time skip and having kids. First naruto and now bleach, Kubo even fucked that up. Chad looks badass though.

This really makes me sad thinking back on this series. I wasn't along for the ride for as far as you all went, I bailed out during the Hueco Mundo arc. But man, just thinking back... the series was so goddamn good until the Soul Society arc ended. I'll always have fond memories of the first two arcs in the anime.

So basically every plot hook for this arc that was actually interesting gets awkwardly swept aside for a time-skip "babies ever after" ending.

Jesus Christ.

What the fuck was the Soul King? Why did he have special eyes?
What was Aizen so angry about?
Why can't any of the Vizords have a fight without embarrassing themselves?
What was Ichibe "sorry" to Ichigo and company about? Why was he so sure Yhwach couldn't be defeated?
Who were those random two rookie Shinigamis that were literally the first thing we saw when this arc started?
What about Ichigo's "normal" friends back in Karakura town?
What about Ginjo's revelation that Ukitake created the Substitute Shinigami program and possibly had shady motives?
What was Ichigo's sister doing with Urahara?
What's the deal with Urahara? (This could be an entire section on its own.)
Why does Chad exist? I legitimately feel sorry for him as a character. His entire arc was wanting to catch up to Ichigo and be able to fight and contribute on a comparable level, and he never even got close. His final battle was against some random fodder and it didn't even happen on-screen.
Why did Shunsui imply that Ichigo would never be able to return home to his friends?
Why did Isshin know the Final Getsuga Tensho?
What the fuck was Yachiru? I guess we're just supposed to assume she was a personified Zanpakuto, sort of like Stark and Lillynette, but she had her OWN Zanpakuto and Shikai, and she was still around watching Kenpachi fight after he'd released Nozarashi. We...just never see her again.
What were the Shikais, Bankais, or even just Zanpakuto of like, 50% of the cast?
What are Orihime's powers? We went through the whole Fullbring arc without a confirmation she was a Fullbringer, but she never actually did anything besides her little shields and her plot-convenience-healing. Weren't her powers supposed to have deity-level implications?
Was there ANY fucking point to Yoruichi suddenly having a little brother? This actually happened to Omeada, too, come to think of it. Did he ever even hint at having a little sister before he suddenly had one as a plot device to protect? And then...neither of them were ever seen again, either. Hell, did Soi Fon's fight with the robot dude ever actually even finish?

Seriously, this arc ran for more than 4 years and just about nothing actually happened, and some of the stuff that DID happen was absolute bullshit.

Remember the zombie girl? Remember how Hitsugaya was fucking DEAD and zombified? Wow, what balls on Kubo, taking one of the most popular characters and killing him off while also making him a technical antagonist - oh, no, wait, Mayuri will fix it with the magical medical-afterlife-healing pods he's been hiding just off screen for like 30 chapters. (Which also heal the previously totally unforseen Quincy Schrift Zombification, by the way.) Oh hey, Is that Frankenstein Kira over there? Mayuri did it! Don't even get me started on what a bizarre metaphysical concept zombies in the afterlife are.

Did Uryu ever actually have a plan? The "Antithesis" was such an incredibly specific and convenient power for him to pull out of nowhere, but then Haschwalth hints that he could weaponize it against Yhwach somehow and Uryu is totally shocked by the idea. So, was he actually on Yhwach's side? Did he just think him so overwhelmingly powerful that there was no choice but to follow him? How had he never even spent a moment thinking on how he might be able to use his abilities? And then, the plan that he actually ends up going with is something he couldn't have possibly seen coming or planned for. (His father passing along the Deus Ex Arrowhead.) What was Uryu even DOING the entire time!?

This series ran for almost exactly 15 years, and we don't even know, like, the motivations or intentions of the two biggest villians, Aizen and Yhwach.

What an absolute joke.

What was Aizen so angry about?

I get the feeling Aizen had the same reaction as you when he saw the Soul King. He snuck in specifically to see the strongest person int he universe, and it wasn't a person at all really. It was a thing. Whatever purpose it served was... Not discernible.

For Aizen, someone who had aspired to be the strongest and challenge the king that must've been a brutal disappointment.

Just look at what he shouted at Urahara before he got sealed.

Why can any of the Vizords have a fight without embarrassing themselves?
They were filler.

What was Ichibe "sorry" to Ichigo and company about? Why was he so sure Yhwach couldn't be defeated?
Who were those random two rookie Shinigamis that were literally the first thing we saw when this arc started?
What about Ichigo's "normal" friends back in Karakura town?
Who knows?

What about Ginjo's revelation that Ukitake created the Substitute Shinigami program and possibly had shady motives?
That was his hangup. Ichigo thought it was a good idea. He killed Ginjou for disagreeing.

What was Ichigo's sister doing with Urahara?
Hanging out.
What's the deal with Urahara? (This could be an entire section on its own.)
He is a smart dude who got outmaneuvered by Aizen and forced into exile accordingly. He didn't forget about that thoguh and formed a long term plan to counter Aizen's influence.
Why does Chad exist?
Vestigial character.

Why did Shunsui imply that Ichigo would never be able to return home to his friends?
Ichigo was already radiating so much spirit energy that he warped Orihime, Tatsuki, Chad, and his sisters as it was.

Shunsui wasn't completely certain about how Ichigo's training would go so he couldn't say for sure. He felt his pals deserved to know there was a risk in undertaking it however.

Why did Isshin know the Final Getsuga Tensho?
Probably just a Shiba clan technique passed down over the generations.

What are Orihime's powers? We went through the whole Fullbring arc without a confirmation she was a Fullbringer, but she never actually did anything besides her little shields and her plot-convenience-healing. Weren't her powers supposed to have deity-level implications?
They were potentially broken. It all hinged on her ability to will things to happen however. Since she didn't really want to hurt anyone, she lacked the conviction to will people out of existence. Low confidence hindered her healing and being able to believe her shield would actually stop anything proved difficult after watchign Ichigo etc get slapped around.

Seriously, this arc ran for more than 4 years and just about nothing actually happened.
I've talked to one guy this whole time who insisted that all that stuff was great and noteworthy. He'd get mad when I pointed out that the plot hadn't moved an inch.

What an absolute joke.

Aizen wanted to supplant the Soul King.

Yhwach wanted to wipe out the SS and create a Quincy world in its place. He also liked to encourage fighting because war in general made him stronger somehow.

Th ... this was supposed to be the Quincy arc guys.

This was supposed to be an arc centred around Ishida.

lol Kubo. What the fuck, give Ishida at least a prominent place on the final colour page of the entire series brah lolol

Man, was a trainwreck all this had been. Should have just ended after Aizen's defeat.

Tatsuki, Keigo and Mizuria Kojima.

Ichigo classmates.

I figured it was them but at the same time I couldn't understand why THEY of all characters get to be on the final cover page while Uryu gets hidden in the background facing away.

This was supposed to be his arc and all he ever did was act as his father's unexpected delivery boy.

Uryu didn't do anything the entire arc except get his ass kicked by Haschwalth and shoot a deus ex machina arrow at Yhwach.

Most Sternritter got to do more than him. Seriously.

She's short yeah, but the proportions in that drawing look straight-up fucked, especially Orihime

Orihime looks like a 12 year old girl in this picture, especially sitting next to Ichigo and Chad.
And aren't they supposed to be a married couple in this picture? Fucking awkward.

Rukia and Orihime both look like they're 2/3rds the size they should be.

So shounen main characters have to have short hair when they got older? Same deal with Naruto.

Looking at and comparing, I think Kubo was trying to give Ichigo Isshin's hair style when he was young ... er, back when he first meet Ichigo's mom I mean.

It just comes off looking bad on him.

I doubt Luffy will, he doesn't seem likely to become the older responsible family man

one piece is going to end with luffy at an execution announcing that he obtained the one piece and left it all in a single place for the next pirate king. I really can't see it ending any way but mirroring gol d. roger. (likely with a montage done to the full version of the original opening after we cut away from the execution)

anyways, the end chapter is making me tempted to pick up and read bleach. I haven't gotten past the hallow human thing arc. (like the next major arc after soul society lol)

I'm just gonna put this here for posterity.
I'm probably talking out my ass and so far off the mark it's not even funny - but what if?

Based on Uryu's almost total inconsequence to the one arc of the story he should have starred in, his mysterious facing away on the final cover spread, the hints that Yhwach and SoulKing still exist and have influence in some form, and his lack of any real development in the timeskip compared to the rest of the "main" group, I think Kubo is saving him for something should he be, for some reason, allowed to do a sequel series to Bleach.

Uryu for next big antagonist?

So it's really over? I stopped around
ichigo getting two swords thing
and should pick back up. Could someone point me in the right direction of what chapter that starts on?

Well, Aizen's hate for the SK is one of the few things that can be explained quite easily. And he was right the whole time. The SK is not human/ a person but some twisted abomination that was split into parts (and those were quite creepy too). How can they all bow to and serve such a thing? Why did no one ever try to dispose of it and replace it with an actual person? For Aizen, only an actual human being should be the mightiest entity in existence (and that's what most people think, there IS a reason why mankind is described as "being created after God's own image" and why he is depicted as looking like a human person most of the time). And not only this, that thing actually WAS dangerous. Yhwach was only able to absorb its powers because it was this weird split thing that he was somehow part of (thanks for never solve this mystery, Kubo -.-). He couldn't have gathered that much power if Aizen had succeeded (in, like, destroying it and take its place as the rightful SK).

The God of High School is pretty cool.

Nah, just anime and manga.

Oh no, I'm not falling for this again. I made a decade long commitment to see the end of this goddamn series, as I don't like to leave things unfinished. Ten years of my life spent on this hellish rollercoaster with not a single payoff to be found in the end. I'm finally free and I will never go back. Anime? It's over. Manga? It's over. Both have been DELETED.
There's no "falling for this again". Something like Planetes is genuinely great storytelling and some of the best (hard) scifi that you can find. Same goes for Akira (the manga, not the anime, found the anime disappointing except from a technical POV). Vinland Saga is genuinely awesome viking/historical fiction. Mushishi is a great fantastical Japanese folklore manga. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is a superb fantasy manga (again, movie pales in comparison). Monster is an awesome thriller. Good Night Pun Pun is a heart-wrenching coming of age story. Yotsuba! is the complete opposite, quirky fun manga about an imaginative, care-free child doing funny child-like things. Berserk is great dark fantasy. Solanin is a fantastic slice of life story. Battle Angel Alita is a great scifi action manga. Very few of these require 15-20 years of your time and even the ones that do/might (Berserk, Vinland Saga), their quality is far higher & more consistent than Bleach has ever been in every way possible (art, story, dialogue, characters). Most of these have already ended with more or less satisfying endings, so there's no decades of waiting. There's so much more manga can offer you beyond these Bleaches, Narutos, One Pieces & such.

If you write off manga because of dumb reasons like a subpar shonen that lasted over a decade not offering a satisfying conclusion, you should write off everything. Manga is a large art form and it's really childish to judge it all based on some failures like Bleach, especially since shonen is far from being the pinnacle of the art form. The best shonen manga (Full Metal Alchemist, Hunter x Hunter) can be entertaining, imaginative and offer some decent drama at their best but they are hardly comparable to the really hard hitting stuff when it comes to dealing with complex issues, looking at the world with some deeper understanding and/or offering well-constructed, serious storytelling. They are mostly comparable to superhero comics of the west. So they have their high points and at times might offer some surprisingly decent insight, but a lot of it can be quite superficial, inconsequential, naive and black & white.

It's waste of time. If you don't have some hidden urge to exactly know how it ended last 100 chapters were completly rediculus so you aren't losing anything worthwile.
