TLOU Factions Multiplayer will possibly be F2P according to job listingsr

I did think it would be free to play. It kind of has to be to stand a chance. If its good I am in, cant wait to see all the Gaas dances and skins.

While that is possible, so far it's F2P games (and ones with monthly subscription, although apart from FFXIV are there any?) that don't require PS+ for online play, I find it doubtful Sony would change this for their own title.
Destiny is their own title lol

They'd send the game out to die if it's not going to be f2p. Only the toppest of the top dogs get away with charging full price for multiplayer centric games. Even relatively big hitters like Overwatch go f2p.

No surprise there but what's the world coming to, when naughty dog are making a multiplayer only free to play game? People would have laughed at you if you told them that in the past.

Of course it will be free-to-play.
Market with live service games is just too overcrowded. When you have games like Overwatch 2, PUBG, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Call of Duty Warzone etc. all with free-to-play format, releasing paid MP only game is just suicidal. Especially since ND don't have too much experience with MP games.

Good. All their GAAS games should be - get them out there, build a base and go from there. It was a mistake for Destruction Allstars not to launch on PC and have a premium price.

Their AAA single player games can carry a price and their GAAS games should all be about player base size and retention.

If it isn't F2P + BattlePass-styled monetization and PS4/PS5 + PC (Day1) it's just sent out to die. A new full-priced multiplayer game (especially from a studio not known for MP game) just doesn't stand a chance in the competitive landscape of shooters.

TLOU Online will probably be a Destiny 2 style hybrid of free to play and paid.

Free to play but you have to pay to get all the story content. And requires PS Plus.

Sony obviously loves Bungie's business model if they bought them.
Absolutely. It's going to have a HUB World (Jackson) where players can walk around peacefully and buy cosmetics while interacting with other players and then an open world for combat, looting and exploring.

It's going to be like the first game's multiplayer except the colony that you build will be integrated in the 3D game world.

Makes sense. The first one was fucking loaded with MTX and eventually pay to win weapons. I never played Uncharted MP past Uncharted 2, which had incredible MP. Did ND go wild with cosmetic MTX in Uncharted, too?

Bear in mind, I don't care if a dev goes crazy with cosmetic MTX, which a vast majority of LoU was. The premium content that broke the game was a small number of items. It was a shame, because Factions was absolutely incredible before the DLC shifted the entire meta of the game.

Sony really fucking nailed MP during that PS3 gen. MAG, Resistance, Killzone, LoU Factions, Twisted Metal, War/Starhawk, Uncharted 2, etc. idk what happened to them.

Micro-transactions in Us.

Dis Gonna Be Good Jason Momoa GIF
That's usually how F2P survives, yes.

What a revelation!

Nope. Has nothing to do with Jackson.

The game takes place in San Francisco.

And it will quite different than factions.

Can't wait to buy a battlepass to earn banners and stickers and skins for all the great character LOU characters like Protein Abby, Intermural Softballl Abby, Deadlift Abby, Pride Month Abby, She/Shim/Sher Abby

With everything they've said about the game so far, I think they're doing the opposite, that it'll be a $70 game with lots of MP modes including co-op campaign.

Multiplayer games live or die based on how they are priced

I've said it many times before: if you are not Call of Duty or FIFA, dont even try pricing your multiplayer game at $60-70. It will completely kill the player base.

F2P with microtransactions is the way. Or the Destiny way, as someone have pointed out already.

Dont be dumb, Sony. I want this to be a hit.

Makes sense, or at least a lower price. I'm not sure you can make it these days as a multiplayer only $70 game unless you are part of a very popular and well established multiplayer franchise.
GaaS in particular really depend on having a big and active community.

Personally I'd rather have it be $70 with no MTX but since the only 2 option are F2P with MTX or $70 but also with MTX I'll take the former.

Yeah no one talks about it because ND isn't that known for multiplayer but they have a pretty terrible history of MTX and Pay 2 Win in ther games.
But the market is different now and there have been enough online outrages that I think Sony wouldn't be stupid enough to put out a new GaaS gave that's blatantly Pay 2 Win

I agree with you but I highly doubt Sony thought it would be a big game, it was kinda like a sweetener for PS5 owners.

I am confident it didn't cost much to make lol

I would imagine so too. Quite a lot of the investment carried over to Twisted Metal. The bones of DA can be built on and I imagine with a long term view that was the plan.

Not surprising.

Capcom also needs to make RE:Verse free to play if they want it to be successful. Having it locked to Village purchase only is a terrible choice.

It really did, felt like they just rushed it out for launch.

With competitors in market it needs to launch with more content, options, and any microtransactions need to be worth it - even now the DA skins suck, why would you buy them.

Free to play......sigh. I was looking forward to this. Love the first one. I hope it's still good and doesn't turn into pay to win crap.

Poppycock. Overwatch and GTAOnline did quite well at a high price.
And Overwatch 2 is now F2P, showing that despite doing quite well, Blizzard saw the F2P advantage

And GTA Online is, well, GTA. It's an unicorn. Cant be compared to anything else.

Too many successful Pay to Play multiplayer games on Steam and XBL charts that disprove your theory.

Fun is the key ingredient, not price.

TLOU1 already had P2W elements.

Like which ones?
I think standard weapons like the semi-auto, the bow or rifle were absolutely top tier and used consistently at the highest level.

Btw I recall we played a couple of games of this back in the day, different names.

The biggest ones right now are F2P (with the exception of GTA, mentioned before)

That's enough to rest my case
