TLOU Remastered: 30 fps option gives better shadow quality [Up: Comparison GIF in OP]

GTAV has been upgraded, you can't mistaken the two.

Touché.

Wow, that looks bad. Maybe its intended and one of ND "optimizations" to get it to 60 frames?! I think we all know that "optimizations" means downgrades in this industry.

And if not its a shame that they have rushed the game just to meet their anniversary date. Product quality should be always priority number one and some fucking release date. They did the same with Uncharted 3 which was by far the most unpolished ND game on the PS3.

How about no.

I'm sure it's just a bug and that it'll be fixed in the D1 patch, there is no way anybody thougth that it was acceptable to do it on purpose.

Wishmaster92 I ll test this in 30 fps mode to see if its a glitch or not but its really distracting

Man, this "Remaster" needed more time in the slow cooker. I'll wait to buy until after all the patches that hopefully fix shit like this.

resolution wise yes, noticeably better not any different or better to the press releases of the PS3 version thou.
But I can't really be impressed by it because like I said, it's expected it's running on the PS4.

what do you mean press releases version , i hope you not talking about pics that had a huge amount of AA compare to how it was on our TVs.
Not to mention the frame rate which on PS3 was under 30 a lot .

Physically-based rendering just showed up in games in the last year though, didn't it?
To me it's the biggest step forward since the beginning of gen 7.

There is also a lot other stuff that ND PS3 engine did not use or made no sense doing on PS3.

If you look closely, you'll also note that on the right side of the screen, the metal door handle and the red valve wheel don't cast shadows in the PS4 version.

Man my pre-order has been cancelled almost 8 times now I don't think I can cancel another.

Well that is really bad. Looks really bad, I didn't expect this, coming from Naughty Gods. I'll still buy it because the game is excellent, but I hope they fix this.

/////////Even their arms don't cast shadows on their body as in the PS3 version.

My mistake it is in the PS3 version where it is not so visible.

You and I have different definitions of really bad. If by really bad you mean 2x pixels and twice the framerate plus cleaning up all the jaggies that cut your eyes open then I would agree with "really bad".

Ok what I mean is, 1080p and 60fps isn't making me.

Let me just disarm you of 1080p 60fps, now what is this Remaster doing.
I know what TRDE did, I know what GTAV is doing and Metro, other then 1080p 60fps I just don't see much difference and I know TLOU has some really shitty textures in some places and I hope they are not in the PS4 version.

It's at 60, I've been waiting for the prompt to get patch 1.01 but I have yet to get it. I would have been all over photo mode if I had 1.01 but still yet to receive a prompt for the patch.

At any case, you'll definitely notice the blocky shadows at times, but it's because everything else is super clean. I don't mind it though, the 60 fps gameplay is butter. Plus, the texture work and character models are insanely detailed and crisp. I don't want to sound like somebody gushing over the game (my av speaks for itself lol), but I'm very damn pleased with the outcome of the game.

Some more images for you all to dissect. I'll be playing some more later and posting some more pictures for those who want to see them.

PS The blocky shadows do exist, and you'll run into them for sure, but the above shows that it's not always bad.

Just catching up with this thread. Thanks for sharing these!

Well we haven't actually seen any straight gameplay of GTAV or Metro Redux.

This is fucking disappointing. Why the hell did ND release the game like this, just delay
the thing by a couple months and fix all this shit. Other than the stuff pointed out in
these threads, who knows what else will crop up once the game is out.

I'll be picking this half-assed port when it's $15-$20 now. Maybe even a used copy.

Extremely disappointed.

I didn't even know it's possible to be more disappointed than you already were more than a week ago :D

A fantastic example for why we need a new thread that discusses the new topic that discusses the known missing effects from the ps3 version. People don't read past the first page. Orochi, I suggest you start the new topic about this completely separate issue since you're passionate about this and not a junior member.

Exactly. And I'm not saying the ps4 version won't be better overall, but given these problems and the fact that they went gold at the very last minute makes me think they were on too tight of a deadline.

Did you even read who I quoted? Because right now you're dismissing me just because I'm a junior member and yet you failed to read who I quoted and what I replied to. Just because a title makes you feel superior doesn't mean you're actually superior.

I'm looking at the PS3 version right now, it does the same thing. This has to do with the environmental bounce caused by your flashlight. The objects themselves are still rendered at full resolution, but the shadows cast from the bounce of your light, not direct light, have low sampling. This isn't some new thing introduced in the PS4 version.

Any way the freed up resources from 30fps mode could fix this if they decided to patch it? Or is this something that can't be fixed?

He was just saying that because Junior Members can't make threads. Calm down.

I don't really understand why people say "half ass"? Isn't more ass bad? Like if someone gave you something bad and it was total ass, you'd be like, oh my god, this is all ass! Or if someone did something great, you'd say, "There's no ass at all in how this was done!"

Half ass seems like an improper term.

I think it comes from shitting. If you half-ass a shit you might shit without hitting the hole.

If you full ass the toilet then all the shit hits the proper location, no spillage onto the ceramics.

Full ass = proper job, you shit it out successfully
half-ass = the shit is all wrong, you need proper positioning
no ass = what is going on you can't just go without being in the vicinity of a toilet

There was actually a really great comparison video that popped up a couple days ago. Will try to find the link.

The link no longer works due to an embargo on it. :/

Yahoo answers got your back:

It really comes from an archaeology dig in the south of Florida where they excavated 300 burials of people with one half of their pelvis. The originally named them the Semi-holes, but they were later just called the half assed tribe.

It depends you see, if I'm in an intimate situation and the words "This is all ass!" come out, we're off to a good start.

The real question is whether you get the front half or the back half of the ass. The front at least isn't shitty.

It's not about being an ass, it's about how much ass you give.

Half isn't enough. Put it all on the line.

To me it's the biggest step forward since the beginning of gen 7.

Nope, games used it last gen too.
Both Black Ops games used physically based lighting, the reason why their lighting engine looked "right" compared to the Modern Warfare games.

Also Tri Ace did a tech demo in 2011 for last gen consoles with physically based shading.
