To hell with UK gamers (new charts) RE4 out of the top 40 after only 2 weeks

Führr Spain ?

Cool. It's kinda weird CAPCOM hasn't advertised it...In the Barcelona underground there are DS advertisements, Metal Gear Solid 3 ads and Devil May Cry 3 ads...but no RE 4 ads...
Anyways I am under the impression it didn't bomb here...

Going by retailers it is doing fairly good, but it shouldn't be really up there given the tiny userbase. Spain is all about PC and PS2.

Well, I was talking about ads because both RE and RE0 were highly advertised. But yeah, GC userbase is not the hugest...but well I think it's pretty good when compared with other european countries...

Spanish GC userbase is very small. It has had a very hard time improving their numbers since launch and its software sales are pretty damn low. In the other hand GBA has healthy sales.

Well...I was just alking out of my ass when making this statement. But when I go to local shops or ask comrades I always have the impression that many people has a GC. Of course it's far away from PS2 levels but well, the impression is similar to the one in the N64 days.
Anyways I can't wait till the big stores begin to kill GC stock like did with DC...There are tons of titles I want for my collection.

"Seriously, I'm not a Nintendo fan clinging on to some desperate excuse, I genuinely think the ball has been seriously dropped on the distribution of this game. TBH, it wouldn't surprise me if it did bomb even with all the stock in the world and I'd admit that if it happened, but I think there's enough of a problem here to suggest availability has been the major issue here."

same here - i'm utterly shocked that RE4 has become my favourite game of all time to be quite honest, but i was shocked at how totally un-hyped the game was all over the country. I was even going to buy it so i could play it through again in cumbria to pass the time - hell, there were second hand copies gallore! :(

I just got the impression that it was such an anonymous launch that it can't have helped. I was also shocked at the size of the GC space in most stores... eek, talk about marginalized. :(

I know about 10 people that have been wanting to get hold on PAL RE4 but shops have sold out!!!1

SALES + 10

GAMECUBE IS SAVED!

I think Nintendo/Capcom did pretty well with RE4 in the UK.

Most stores had window displays or standees. There was a fair few TV spots, and sponsorship (albeit satellite channels).

The main problem is that Gamecube is limited mostly to specialist stores, and even then its one shelf at the back of the store. That, plus limited distribution almost guarantees poor sales.

I don't think the problem is lack of stock. "Lack of demand" and "Gamecube" go hand-in-hand in the UK (and other places).

The game will sell fine on the PS2. That's because the PS2 is the console of choice for the majority of people.

Well, I threw this out there last week...

If RE4 is sold out, HOW is it the number #1 game on the Gamecube chart?

Because all the other GC games sell like shit.

Most places round me have been sold out for almost a week now. You have to preorder it GAME, despite it officially being released. Though it doesn't suprise me that the south of England's got stock.

As far as the publishing and distribution of Japanese games goes, there are a lot of companies that don't have European offices, although the likes of SE, KOEI and others are starting to open up European branches. With Europe being made up of so many different smaller companies, publishing a title here is slightly more complicated and involves working with a myriad of distributers, which is why most of them didn't bother setting up their own operations until now. With the shrinking Japanese market and growing European one, it's becoming more important, and the Japanese publishers want a larger slice and more direct control over their operations here.

so how do you know that isn't applying to RE4 as well?

Who knows it might be. But, while it is anecdotal, I haven't been able to find a copy anywhere in Glasgow, and talking with the guys in the stores about it, from their end distribution has been messed up and this applies as much to the big chain stores as it does to the independent ones.
