TOKYO JUNGLE |OT| The world began without man...and it will end without him.

I've never noticed such poor shadows in a game before, slightly odd.

Quite enjoying my time with this so far. The way challenges work gets on my nerves sometimes though. Either I'm not doing them in the right order sometimes or just doing them too quickly and the game doesn't register them.

Sometimes you have to leave the area, if the game throws toxicity, sparse food and no items at you at once

Alright. I'll try this during my next runs, thanks. The problem was that once I was afflicted by toxicity I was pretty much dead before I even got out of the area...

So can you "repair" equipped items, or they are consumables that you need to get once they're ran out of durability?

I asked the same in the thread before since it's very confusing and not very well explained. Once you find an item it gets added to the store in the main menu and you can buy them again if it breaks.

This is what kind of makes me wish it was a retail release.

At its core its an old school game where you should probably read the manual (again, in the xmb menu for those who didn't know). I ended up doing the tutorial 3 times before I found out there was an a manual and figured out I was supposed to collect the missions in survival. That, and I want to bring this game to friends houses without hassle . :)

What a strange game. I'm liking it, but man. :p Dove in last night and on my very first run, I spawned right next to a beagle who spotted me as soon as I started moving, ran up, and one-shotted me. Dead within 5 seconds. "Yep," I said to myself, "This is a roguelike all right."

Did much better on subsequent runs, and ended up just sacrificing myself as a deer so I could unlock more animals. It reminds me a lot of EVO: Search for Eden in a sense. Though what made it a little sad was that my dog (a dachshund) was asleep in my lap while I was playing, and all I could think about while rocking the Pomeranian is that my dog would be picked off easily within 30 seconds in the Tokyo Jungle. :(

Well, that run went a lot better. Unlocked the alley cat. Just afterI mated with a perfect doggy wife for the second wife a crocodile spawned on top of me :(.

1) Is there some limit to what animals one can "instant kill"? I swear I dodged the crocodile twice (and got the red R1 indication) but the crocodile did not die from it.

2) How do I get into the sewers?

So I finished the story mode.

Does something happen if you
get to survive 200 years? cause the plot means you encounter the future civilization that started everything

Ugh, sometimes I feel the game is conspiring against me. Ever since generation 2 all the females I found were desperate, so I had to deal with only 2 retrievers for all the survival. In the end I died at the last place before the Tossa boss due to hunger and toxicity :/

Such is the nature of a roguelike, lol.

1) You won't be able to take down the bigger animals so easily if you aren't one of the bigger predators. Even if you sneak up on a big predator you wont be able to take it down with one hit.

2) If you are looking at the map and toggle (Square i think?) you can see the sewer map and entrances. You just have to line it up with the actual map.

It's also worth noting that for the big animals, if you're using a small one you'll need to repeatedly press R1 to deal damage. Sometimes you take a considerable amount, sometimes each attack deal only 10% to the animal's HP. It probably takes in consideration your attacks and the enemies' defense, so it's worth a shot using Attack boosting items in such cases.

thinking about buying this, but how is the local multiplayer ? Can you go through all of the game in multiplayer ? is it fun ? what are the rules

So I finished the story mode.

I don't know if they expected anyone to get that far, but it would be neat. I think the
Homo Erectus
come out around 100 years, but I'm not positive.

Story spoilers
I believe it's implied that the dog caused the future civilization not to return by destroying the facility. Maybe man just gets sent back to the future or it causes a paradox, maybe everyone is just lost to the ether. It's kind of an inverse of the popular "we've tried everything but civilization is still doomed" in sci-fi. The dog put a stop to the plans of man to return to earth because he didn't want them to come back and start killing/enslaving all of the animals. Problem is ----------------more spoilers------------------thanks to evolution the homo erectus will eventually become the man that dog feared and things will resume as they did prior to the catastrophe.(Seriously you can't mess with homo erectus in this game, they attack all animals and even if you kill them you can't eat them)

Yeah I got to 101 years and
got killed by a bunch of homo erectus. Seriously, there were a ton of them. You can't eat them? damn I guess that's the game basically ending.

Do note however that on the leaderboards there are several players who have lived for a very long time, or at least long enough to max out the score. Achieving some of those scores probably requires that you live for 800 or so years. They pull this off by building their stats so high that it becomes almost impossible to get killed or starve. Though for the most part I imagine the developer intended for the player to be too overcome by despair to continue.

so no one plays this in Multiplayer ??

I didn't, sorry. I think the interface may be a bit weird if you're playing on multiplayer, but it may make the fights easier.

As a note, if you see 2 animals together but use the clean kill, you will end up making the other escape. You can get around that by dodging as soon as you get the clean kill, so you can cancel the eating animation.

Finally gave in and bought it this morning

2 hours later and install is at 55% and I had to leave.

WTF?

I don't know what's wrong with the download speeds. It downloaded at normal speed for me, but many people have reported very slow download times for this game specifically.

I've got a question for anyone that's finished story mode:
I'm on act 11 where you have to sneak through the sewers, and it sucks. I fucking loathe stealth in games. Is this the last stealth mission? If it is I'll probably force myself through it, if not I'm done with the game.

Yes.

Story End Spoilers
future people wanted to trade with present people. The mechine NEEDS to trade.

Plan was: present people go away, future people swap in x years later (10 I think the original plan was?)
What happened: Present people go away, future people prevented from coming.

What I assumed happens: Because of the dog breaking the machine, the present people were not sent to the future to trade. They were sent to the dinosaur era and traded. The logs had 40k ish people disappearing at first. That's when raptors were teleported. Then the giant catastrophe, everyone gone. That's when Homo erectus is traded.

Another theory I had: Present humans sent to the dino era (because of the dog breaking the future swap). Thus humans traded for dinosaurs. Then 100 years later the dog really does break the machine and causes another swap. All the humans return, 100 years after their inital swap. They are all devolved into homo erectus. I guess that can't happen in 100 years, but maybe if we don't shave and live with only underwear we'd all look like that?

So I played first time (survival mode + multiplayer) and I unlocked cats.

Thing is I don't understand Toxicity and everything about it...like it affects even living animals? Any tips?

Toxicity is worse in certain areas, I think you can escape it by moving to other ones. Items also cure it.

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Toxicity:
Avoid purple smog. If your area is polluted try to migrate to somewhere else
Eat non-toxic food, every time you eat you'll reduce toxins by 10 (5 for drinking water)
A lot of items reduce toxicity
Resting clears your toxic gauge, so does procreating.

Can someone tell me the name of the upbeat techno song that plays in the first couple pomeranian story levels so I can listen to it forever? I need to keep this game fresh so I am afraid to search Youtube for it, thanks.

I've really got this game down now. The problem is, now that I am past the point of figuring out the systems and strategies and so forth, I'm not so sure what to think of the game anymore. I've probably put 25-30 hours in, and was having fun, but it's really sinking in how small the game is. There is very little variety in any of the challenges or mission types. The environments are pretty bland and often way too empty. The thing that this game has going for it is the whole "carrot on a stick" of unlocking other animals and story missions (which can be pretty hit-or-miss). I think I may just be longing for a different carrot at this point. Either way, $12 for 25-30 hours of fun is a hell of a deal and I'd still really recommend it for anyone still on the fence.

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
About how long does the story mission stuff take to beat? I can't stop playing survival still, heh.

Very short, maybe 10-15 minutes each. Emotional stuff.

Tried to take on a Hyena with my Retriever, then like nine of them showed up. D:

Watch out for the one with the circle graph, that one'll call for backup.

I'm finally getting the hang of surviving in later years. Died in my 76th year for my longest run. I'm starting to attack the challenges, unlocking animals and story mode meow.

I can't stop playing this game. O_O

Ah ha, was wondering what that meant.

Finished story mode.
Beat the final boss than got to the part where you have to escape the building, ran into dinosaurs and didn't make it out in time, and had to start over at the part where you fight the dinosaurs, than the sabertooth tigers than the final boss. Why isn't there a checkpoint after the final boss?

Yeah heard complaints about that checkpoint, too. Personally I made it out with 1.x seconds left, I didn't realize time was so low or maybe the timer changed at the end. I didn't notice until I jumped out the last door.

Do I have to do again the tutorial to play history mode?

Awesome game. Fresh, original, unique, adictive and with that 'special touch' most games lack nowadays.

More of this please.

Do I have to do again the tutorial to play history mode?
Complete turorial to unlock the three USB sticks in survival. Play survival and find the 3 USB sticks to unlock a story chapter. Complete the story chapter to unlock 3 USB sticks in survival. Play survival and find the 3 USB sticks to unlock a story chapter. Complete the story chapter to unlock 3 USB sticks in survival. etc

Also, regarding the end of story mode
when it tells you to go into storage I said no because it seemed like that was what you were supposed to say. What happens if you say yes?

This part of the end bugged me. I said yes the first time and it just ended, you are supposed to say no.
