Tommy Lee Jones has joined Matt Damon in the next installment of the “Bourne” franchise.

Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles are also on board to join the action series, while Paul Greengrass is back to direct and pen the script with Christopher Rouse.

Frank Marshall will produce again alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment. Greengrass, Damon, Greg Goodman and Ben Smith will also produce, while Rouse and Henry Morrison will serve as executive producers.

Plot details are unknown at this time, though sources say Jones will play a superior officer at the CIA. Edward Norton, Chris Cooper, Brian Cox and David Strathairn have playing similar roles in past “Bourne” movies. Production is expected to begin later this summer. The film will bow on July 29, 2016.

Sweet, first thought that came to mind was The Fugitive.

This might be my most anticipated movie of next year.

He better say "I cannot sanction your buffoonery" when castigating some rookie agent who screws up the chase.

slightly off topic: is Green Zone worth going back to? I rented it once a few years ago but dont remember much about it

Ed Norton was excellent, played the asshat really well for some reason. But I cannot sanction your buffoonery is good too

I know most people think Green Zone is boring, but I think its a fairly watchable movie; not Damon's best but dudes good is pretty much everything so maybe give it a shot.

I'm excited for a new Bourne movie with the original bourne

While I like Tommy lee jones, I haven't seen him in anything recently that impressed. I'm probably overlooking something though

Fuck, does this mean the Viggo rumor was false? I heard he was in the running to get cast as the main baddie.

What's the story going to be? You'd think they would stay well clear of him after the events of the first three films.

From what I can remember Tommy Lee Jones always get his man, so I think this will be something to look forward to.

Hope we get Hunted version of him.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Is there anyone in Hollywood more typecast than Tommy Lee Jones?

HSX mistakenly referred to this film as "The Bourne 5" in a tweet, and now I can't stop thinking about how that'd be a genuinely great premise. Roll with the notion of other sleeper agents, form a team...

I would like to think he was stuck with a crappy agent or he just loves being a LEO.

He's also a Harvard graduate. If he didn't want to work in film, he could've been working at a hedge fund or something.

I'm really curious where they'll take the plot. Ultimatum kind of left it at a good place, with Bourne disappearing, presumed dead.

Surely it can't be: "Random section chief has unethical kill squad, frames Bourne. Cat and mouse for an hour. Philosophical encounter with a counterpart assassin, Bourne disappears off the grid at the end. Cue Extreme Ways by Moby".

I haven't read he books so I don't know what material they have to go off before it starts wearing thin.

I was guessing someone from bournes past, a target or something, coming back to get revenge on Bourne. And there wouldn't be cia.

also, supposedly a lot of the film takes place in Spain.

There's quite a bit of material to work with since Ludlum passed.

I still want US Marshall Gerard as the CIA Operator.

Hmm.

Just reading the Ludlum synopsis, a Jackal-esqe character could be interesting. I know we've had other Treadstone/Black Briar operatives working against Bourne, but they were always puppets. To have a legendary assassin that matches Bourne, with the CIA/whoever trying to mop up the pieces and contain it all...that could be fun.

Let's be honest, for any Bourne fan, as long as Damon and Greengrass are involved, we'll be excited.

Conaidering how much of this film's screentime will be allocated to TLJ and Damon, I don't know how much room will be left for a rival Carlos the Jackal, but I'd like to see a rival operative that can match and surpass Bourne. We've yet to see an on screen equivalent.
