Fans of the PSP and the Tony Hawk games absolutely need to read GameSpot's preview of Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix for PSP. From what the article says, it looks like they took nearly everything from the other versions of THUG2, and still managed to add more content to this game!
It's got all of the story mode levels from the other consoles' versions, plus four entirely new levels. The accompanying video interview shows a nice-looking segment of grinding roulette tables in a casino.
It's got all of the music from the other consoles' versions.
It's got all of the multiplayer modes, which you can play over Wi-Fi.
It's got the "face in the game" function like the PS2 version, where you can texture map a digital photo of your face onto your custom character.
The only gameplay sacrifices that appear to be made are in terms of control (due to PSP having less buttons than PS2), and the lack of a true online mode. Still, we could very well see people using tunnelling to play online, as well as Web sites devoted to trading user-created skate parks with other players.
Custom soundtracks would have been good to have here, too. Maybe that's something that we'll see in the next Tony Hawk game for PSP. I'm glad they implemented face mapping, as that brings about a great level of personalization.
All in all, it looks like Activision and Shaba games are pouring a lot of effort to make this one of the top PSP games at launch. I was planning on getting this game at some point after launch, but after reading this article and watching the video, I almost feel like bumping off one of the other games that I was planning on buying so I could get this game instead. It really looks like it could be a winner!
