Toonami is BACK

What is so exciting about watching shows during a block on TV that you can already watch on DVD, online service, elsewhere etc?

Is it just a nostalgia thing?

Because this:

Toonami was far more than just a block of shows.
It was a package of awesome.
The way that Toonami introd and outrod shows, the little ad bumps like what I posted, the video game reviews, even story arcs with Tom himself.
It was such a perfect set up, and one I'm surprised more networks didn't try.

Steve Blum approves.

I only speak for myself, but I'm excited at the idea of Cartoon Network having an anime block again. It would probably include some new series and not just re-runs.

Also, yeah, what AceBandage said. STEVE BLUM!

This should really be all new shows. Maybe just have one nostalgia show if they must.

Its not going to be all new shows :P, we already know FMA, Bleach and Cowboy Bepop are likely going to be on it thanks the scheduling changes they have made recently. Think some of you are getting too excited for the list for nothing, expect mostly older shows they can scrounge up quick licensing rights to along with stuff they already intended to show on the AS anime block. The toonami revival hasn't exactly been a long time coming after all. My opinion we will see a return of Yu Yu Hakusho as Funimation is trying to pimp their blu-ray releases. If I had to name a couple shows that were new that might be in reach of licensing it would be Soul Eater and 'maybe' Gurren Lagann (Assuming they can take back the rights to that show from another network if its not already gone). Both of those fit perfectly for a toonami block, especially now that its on Adult Swim.

So that looks like a new TOM design. Slightly changed from TOM 3.

Are they retconning TOM 4 out of existence?

Well, half of those are definite. Bleach, Fullmetal, and Bebop are all scheduled for those slots (which are new timeslots for FMA and Bebop). The other 3 spots are blank. There's NO chance that one of them is not DBZ.

I rather them play stuff that has not been reruned for ages already. Sure toss on Bleach and Full metal. Bleach still has new episodes to burn and Full metal isnt super old yet. DBZ I really wouldnt want back.

They should try to get some Precure shows that might itch that Sailor moon vibe. Or the new Saint Seiya anime. I think those mixed with a bit of old would be nice. Gundam 00 works as well.

I can't be the only one to feel old now that a block of animation aimed at 10-17 year old boys is now aimed at men in the 20s, can I?

meh, I never really watched much of it when it was on (except for Cowboy Bebop). I enjoyed the April Fools Day event.

This is more of a "feels good man" for actually getting something put back on the air. That doesn't happen often, unless your Seth MacFarlane.

I liked 2.0 slightly more than 1.0 (both were awesome and I like them for different reasons), and then 3.0 was a quite a bit below that, and then 4.0 fell off a cliff.

When it comes back it's gotta make a crack about TOM 4/final Toonami in the first couple minutes.

Although TOM 3 is well, third on my list of TOM designs, I think the 3-era SARA design was much better than her first one. Glad to at least have that. I wonder if they're going to get her VA back.

Honestly the only way this will last is if they bring some new shows to the forefront.

If the block can survive a good month or two with whatever they gather from old licenses then they might have some room to get some newer stuff. The fact is the idea of a Toonami revival didn't gain steam till April 1st 'prank' happened, and its not like they were even sure they would even bring it back much less get new shows for it. I will be really surprised if they have new stuff coming right out of the gate.

I actually really like the facemask SARA 1.

You should watch Outlaw Star.

Apparently her VA was Cowboy Sally?
No clue.

My bet is the lineup will incorporate Soul Eater somehow. It fits the DBZ/ Yu Yu Hakusho sort of programming that was a thing for Toonami. Bleach/ Naruto also works IMO.

She's OK but I don't like how she's bald/a nun. If she had hair I really wouldn't mind her.

I also like the fact that SARA 2 can project herself as a hologram and float next to TOM. Companions.

Bleach is practically locked in stone considering it already airs new episodes every week on the channel.

Was Samurai Champloo on toonami back then? Don't know where I watched it, but I did.

Think I might have saw some DBZ. Was Toonami a late night thing, or a mid-afternoon thing?

It was definitely there.

Soul Eater is a must, that would definitely work. I could see Gurren Lagann being incorporated if it's going to be more affiliated with Adult Swim.

Samurai Champloo aired on Adult Swim. So did Bebop for that matter. I'm psyched about Toonami being back but it seems like a lot of people are confusing what shows were on it versus AS. That said, AS has gutted their anime section so thoroughly in recent years that it really doesn't matter.

Toonami was always a Saturday night thing. Early on, it had a late night block called "Midnight Run" that was an early relative of Adult Swim, and a weekday afternoon block that was replaced by Miguzi in 2004.

Disney XD recently finished deleting all Naruto Shippuden content from their website, so it's dropped.

It would be ironic if after skipping it the first time they picked it up for this.
