Toonami is BACK

I'm pretty sure the last iteration of Toonami was a Saturday evening block. It was immediately followed by Adult Swim, which still shows anime on Saturday nights.

What I'm wondering is if Toonami will try to take over what Adult Swim is doing, or reestablished the Saturday evening block for more kids/teen-oriented stuff.

Adult Swim has recently already shown:
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
Durarara
Bleach
Blood Trinity (I think)
Cowboy Bebop (still)
Ghost in the Shell (still)
Big O (still)

I'm wondering what they could get the rights to and what they could air on television. Isn't High School of the Dead a bit too much of an ecchi? Persona 4 is probably a great fit though, I'd watch it since they already confirmed the game's dub cast. I wonder if they'd be able to get Gundam Unicorn on there though. New Last Exile? New Lupin (probably not)? Definitely Eureka Seven Ao. If only Michiko to Hatchin got licensed.

Nick has Kai locked up nice and tight. No way CN's getting it, unfortunately. Might be the single biggest programming blunder they've made in the last five years.

Damn, that really blows. Though, I now recall seeing Kai on the nick channel. Holy fuck, Kai is really censor in the English version.

This gif has never been so appropriate for this kind of situation

It's had multiple levels of censorship applied (Japanese Kai was censored from the original Z, then Nicktoons censored it even more), though not as badly as the Toonzai version.

Meh. It should have stayed dead. It won't be as good as it used to be. Toonami was around at just the right time with the right shows. It's all nostalgia that makes everyone want it back. The Adult Swim programming won't change. Just using the Toonami name isn't going to make the network any better.

Or they are going to rerun the old shows like they did for april fools.

EDIT: I haven't been keeping up with Adult Swim, so I didn't know that was basically unchanged. False alarm, I guess.

Except it is changing. They pulled three shows from the Saturday schedule and are replacing them with new (or possibly classic) shows.

That's no different from the previous Saturday lineup, though. TV Guide is likely using the old schedule, since Adult Swim hasn't revealed the new one yet. Kinda like what happened on April 1st.

EDIT: Just noticed no Big O. Okay, so it's a little different from the usual schedule. Still, I'll wait for the upfront tonight before trusting TV Guide.

I can't really get excited until we see the lineup, and even then I'm just expecting a rebranded Adult Swim anime night. Not really worth getting worked up over for me.

What WOULD get me excited is if it became a weekday thing like the old toonami with more new shows than old. I mean this has the potential to cause a second anime boom, but limiting it to late night on Saturday with stuff that has been airing for years isn't going to do it.

Basically this.

I'm not going to assume the Saturday lineup's the actual Saturday lineup until it's actually Saturday.

What anime is out now that could even be aired on it?

There's like a billion different things they could air from the last 3 years that would be a good fit. I mean AS are bros with Funimation and they have a ton of stuff.

The problem is there's apparently only 2 slots for something new.

My guess for the lineup is

Bleach
Dragonball Z
Gundam Wing
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop

You think they will return with a show roster of shows that they have essentially played out? I can only assume if they bring in a gundam, itll be MSG:Unicorn, and I just can't see them bringing back Outlaw Star or Cowboy Bebop (as awesome as they are)

I would hope they come back with a fresh roster.

Just bring kids on the slope.

The day they came back they showed gundam seed, cowboy bebop and trigun i think it was.

Bleach, Brotherhood, and Bebop were the only three shows that weren't removed from that leaked schedule change - so those'll likely stay. Plus, Bleach has a brand new arc (and allegedly the biggest one) starting next Saturday. Mix old with some new.

Still have another few months until we're back to the normal Bleach arc with the Ulqiorra v. Ichigo fight.

At least the current filler is pretty good.

Congrats AmeriGAF.

Wish ytv would bring back bionix.

YTV is a lost case at this point. They rather put movies or lame sitcoms now on prime-time than put some cool anime or cartoons.

But there's hope to see Toonami with Cartoon Network Canada that will begin sometimes in 2012.

Given that the original Toonami ended on the same word as Cowboy Bebop ("Bang..."), I really hope that Tom will kick off the new Toonami by saying "I think it's time we blow this scene, get everybody and the stuff together. Okay, three, two, one, let's jam". I might just die of nerdgasm if that happens.

I like Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple but that is just me.

Toonami doesn't work as well in this era as it did the era when I was a kid (AKA when it was new and stuffs).

When I was a kid, we had the internet, but Toonami was my only way to watch anime on a consistent and regular basis like that.

Now? I have a plethora of ways...this is just nostalgia fuel. Not that that's a bad thing. Still kinda-hyped though.

I really think they need to stream the entire block online for this to truely work. Add in commercials and all.

EDIT: Huh? Hamtaro was pure action!

I remember suffering through Sailor Moon just to watch the "new" Dragonball Z episode. Gundam Wing always seemed fun but I didn't understand what was going on. I didn't care for too many of the other toonami shows. I just never got caught up in Anime and didn't care too much for manga, either.

I do find giant robot type anime appealing, though. DBZ was fun but I don't think I could stomach it now. I may tune in to watch the new Toonami depending on the shows being featured.

All of those wouldnt at least appear on the channel until late this year or next year or in AO's case maybe even late 2013. , except Unicorn, unless they were some way willing to air stuff undubbed.

Hm they could try Guilty Crown eventually and three of those are funimation.

Suffering through Sailor Moon? Sailor Moon was the superior series.
