also from what I've seen of bleach people get stabbed and slashed all the damn time and they're just fine later, as long as they get treated sometime in the next like three days

You're only susceptible to that if you willingly saw his unleash, hence why he joined the Gotei 13 and gave everyone a demonstration of how his "powers worked" where he lied and showed everyone a different ability. It's why Ichigo and co are immune but all the soul society characters aren't
