I know what you mean. I can't put my finger on it but this show is kinda all over the place when it comes to storytelling. It may be they are omitting too much exposition.

first its just fwb, but then things like feelings starts to get in the way, either on the girl side or your side, whether you want to or not, scrubs covered this pretty well.
Looks like this episode is giving Michiko's backstory as a mix of flashbacks and modern day scenes. Knowing it's a two-parter, there will probably be a lingering conflict to tie part history with the present story.
I'm not. Never been a fan of that show
