He might even be underplaying it a little bit

That was neat. Confusing.. but neat. Like, it just seems so out of nowhere.

Ace and Blackbeard have had a cat and mouse thing going on in the background since the crew first entered the Grand Line. This shit was a long time in the making.

Ace has been hunting for Blackbeard (mostly in the background) for about 250 episodes.

In manga form, there was also a cover page serial arc related to his Blackbeard search that ran around the end of Skypiea and into the Davy Back Fight.

All out Logia fights are always interesting. There is one much later on that permanently changes a location permanently.

(speaking as someone who doesn't know what happens after this, but has seen everything up to here)

When Shanks visited Whitebeard on his ship, they talked about Ace (Whitebeard's second-in-command) going after Blackbeard (who was also part of that crew). This was the followep to that.

Shanks was warning Whitebeard to stop Ace from this mission.

There was probably some other element to that conversation I can't remember.

That one's crazy because those two fighters were leagues above both Blackbeard and Ace.

Blackbeard's also the one that fucked up Chopper's island.
