Brotherhood rushing through those scenes is such a shame. original series builds it up so much better.

I just watched the Nina episode in Brotherhood and it still works without the 3-4 episodes of building Nina up. I also checked the manga and it was only 1 chapter there as well. Honestly I think all 3 are equally as powerful and shocking, 03 didn't need to extend Nina's role the scene is equally as powerful.

I could see how if my first exposure to the series had been the 03 anime I might argue that the 03 version handled the scene better then Brotherhood/manga, but it's irrelevant. Heck the actual scene pretty much is identical in all 3 versions, the aftermaths resolve differently and you could make a case which version handled that part better.

Well that's exactly how it happened in the manga. While Ed's shocked face is great, the scene in the manga/anime of

I like a lot better. Plus the depiction of Scar is far superior in the manga/brotherhood, I'm not sure how 03 will handle

Honestly one of the things I loved about FMA the first time I read it is how often things weren't over blown like "WOW LOOK AT THIS SHOCKING" stuff you usually see in manga/anime. Tragic events happened in the story and often were dealt with as a matter of fact. So far in the 7 episode of 03 I feel like things are super charged with set up and emotion which while not bad kind of loses the subtly that I loved about the original story.

I feel like Nina's best scene isn't even in 03, the scene of her

crying that daddy is hurt after he's murdered by Scar and despite the horrible thing Shou did to her

. I can't say either scene is better or worse then the other, there different scenes in different versions. I imagine if I simply swapped how the finale of the scenes played out people would still argue the 03 version was better simply because they experienced it first.

Also I didn't feel like giving Nina more scenes made the outcome more emotional, really the manga/brotherhood depiction gave us just enough of her to still be shocked by the finale. You can't even argue the episode was rushed as it's 1:1 with the manga. It probably seems rushed if you watched the 03 version first before reading the manga or seeing Brotherhood.

i dunno. i think the Nina episode in Brotherhood works because of WHAT happened, not because you had any sort of attachment to the character. in FMA03 it's kind of a one-two punch of the events themselves being horrifying and then those events happening to this little girl you've spent time with (even if her voice is laughable). Brotherhood still WORKS to a degree (and even ignoring the rushed feeling, it's not staged as well), but it doesn't have the same impact.

I'll have to see for myself I wasn't really feeling Scar in his first appearance in 03 maybe I'll warm up to him.

If it's a case where the Toonami logo at the bottom of the screen is replaced by an Xbox logo, or there are more than 2 Xbox commercials per commercial break, it's going to be too much for me. As I have mentioned earlier in this thread, advertising is very effective on me- I go out of my way to avoid it in most cases. Kind of like how people with addictive personalities need to stay out of casinos, I need to stay away from hard advertising. I would love to buy a next-gen system, but I realisticly cannot afford one right now. I don't want to justify it to myself saying "well, i can get 18 month interest free payments from Best Buy, thats like getting it for free!" right now.

Oh I just PM'ed you. That would be great. I will try and make another OT but I think I will try and get some experience under my belt first.

I thought it'd be nice to have a thread for GAFers who stream and chat with other members and times they broadcast but I really need to learn how to craft better OT's like other people here.

If you want I can open it again, you can post your stuff (edit the OP), and I can delete the first several replies. It'll be like it never happened!
