I can't call One Piece an egregious knockout. It got 42 kill votes.

Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Bebop if lazybones hadn't failed, and Yu Yu are just pure bullshit. No one could have saved them for reasons that AREN'T a lot of people wanted them gone.

Yeah, one piece wasn't sniping. As much as some of us love it, the show itself has always been way less popular as a whole in america than the other anime juggernauts. So many people I know who grew up loving dbz and naruto don't like it at all.

Plus, the 4kids dub killed most potential popularity it had in the cradle.

Switching to cumulative will mitigate sniping somewhat, as shows can build up a buffer, but it will also cause people to vote for their favorite show every round in order to build up that buffer instead of saving other shows that might not deserve to die yet, but aren't something the voter particularly cares about. Also later in the game a show could have zero kill votes, but lose out to a show with hundreds of kill votes simply because the latter is more contentious and needed saving earlier in the game as apposed to a more universally liked show that was left alone.

My plan for Version 2 is to have 4 kills and 3 saves in the very early rounds so that 4 shows can go a round, and to make all these votes be for different shows. This should spread the love somewhat.

Ah, good idea. So the 2000 survivor will be run before a toonami reset?

You get two votes, can kill/kill, kill/save, or save/save once every 24 hours. Votes are accumulative and you can't change your vote once you vote. That's always been the best way to do these. Also have way less options like only 10-15 at max.

Placed better than One Piece!

I'd say on top of the other changes, you should only allow one show per kill/save. Meaning that anyone who double taps a single show with kill votes will only have one of those kills voted. Makes it much harder for a small group of people to quickly rack up votes on a specific show.
This is basically my plan for V2:

Until the Top 50, 4 kills and 3 saves for one person, with each of those votes being for a different show, and 4 shows eliminated each round (cumulative).

From Top 50 to Top 30, 3 kills and 2 saves per person, 3 shows eliminated.

From Top 30 to Top 15, 2 kills and 1 save per person, 2 shows eliminated

From Top 15 on only one show eliminated each round.

The "all votes must be for a different show rule" stays throughout.

I still think there is a problem whereby, a more contentious show can build up a advantage that wont be able to be overcome in later rounds, especially if we can't double tap. For example DBZ is -36 overall and Cowboy Bebop is -8. I don't think that's because voters thought DBZ is better than Bebop, it's just because the more posters are voting against DBZ, the more other posters are going to prioritize saving it. I guess posters can adjust their strategy accordingly, but if that's what it takes, people are just going to save their top 3 every day to ensure their viability in later rounds.

Edit: I know this is kind of a nitpick, there may be no perfect way to do it.

Cumulative til the end is the way to do it. Otherwise a coalition will, especially in the later rounds be insurmountable. Glad this is being changed, and looking forward to the next game.

I think good shows gaining huge advantages later is much more acceptable than good shows being sniped at the last second before the Top 50.

I think putting this on hiatus is for the best so we can start this again on a better foot.
Looking forward to the 2000's survival thread if nothing else.

Before I forget will the retry include Black Lagoon, Blue Exorcist and Space Dandy?

Speaking of, How would you guys like me to do the nomination round?
You should come up with the initial list of shows that are obviously on the list, then have everyone list 3 shows that aren't on the list that they think should be. If 3 different people suggest a show, put it on.

Alright looks like I'm gonna start on Wednesday.

I'll also keep the cumulative and one kill voting rules as well.

That 00's cartoon survivor is going to be diffucult as heck for me to vote. Especially since the 00's was when I really got into watching cartoons. I saw a preview of your list, and I already saw like 20 shows I wouldn't mind winning.

Iand the players who would want to save those shows have zero ability to do so.

this is not true. they just haven't shown enough initiative to save their stuff.

if people want to fight fire with fire, they have as many resources as anyone else here. it's a level playing field.

I think good shows gaining huge advantages later is much more acceptable than good shows being sniped at the last second before the Top 50.

the other issue is becoming the arbiter of what is a good show and what isn't. i instituted a 'minimum of three' rule in the goty threads from 2005-2008 because 2004 saw a few driveby one-post votes (i kept the tally on the front page so it was easy to vote a game up the list). as a result, people would list stuff like barbie's horse adventure next to some triple-a title. it was their way of skirting the rule, but i allowed it because everything was essentially fair in the framework i had set up.

now i like cowboy bebop and i wouldn't vote it out early, but if it came down to a last-minute battle, i'd try and rally some troops to save it. it would suck if it was killed off early, but as long as it's part of the rule set, there's nothing anyone can do about it.

These are only true if someone only has one show they care about. I think most people have a moderately large number of shows they want to see go far in the game, but they can only save one of them each round, even if they decide to use their save on something not in danger when they vote. So you see, there is no way for people to save a show from being sniped last second because they can't possibly know what will be voted for.

Kill: Yu-Gi-Oh
Kill: Yu-Gi-Oh

People want talk about dbz fights lasting 10 to 15 episodes, a duel would last 5 to 12 episodes.

Save: Gundam Wing
There's only like three shows worth saving.

Uh, hate to break this to you, but you should probably read the last few posts.

there are ways to figure that out. if there's a large voting bloc, then you just infiltrate it, get their information, and start another voting bloc to cancel them out with your inside information.

come on people espionage isn't hard.

Um.

I don't really expect actual espionage to be a part of the game.

well it's the sort of thing that will happen in any survivor style thread despite attempts to curb it.

instead of limiting people, i suggest you welcome it, and actually integrate it. like people can sign up for factions at the start of a thread. a successful kill with everyone participating equals one extra kill to be used per faction in one of the next ten rounds.
