Thanks to the new Fafner anime by studio Xebec, I revisited one of that studio's anime:

Heroic Age (ヒロイック・エイジ)

This series as a whole is just incredibly emotionally powerful. It has this sense of awe, like you're truly exploring the uncharted territory, and somewhat inspirational.

There is a particular that to this day resonates with me for some reason. If you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about. Episode 16:

When Age tells Mehitak Pore that they are done fighting each other, and Mehitak starts bawling his eyes out, finally freed from his constant torment. Age hugs him, and holds him to let him cry as much as he wants.
To me, this is amongst my favorite scenes of all time.

Another mention would have to be Natsume Yuujinchou ( 夏目友人帳) episode 6, with Tsubame:

"Natsume: Tsubame, thank you for not hating humans.
Tsubame: I love those who are kind! Those who are warm! So.. I love humans! *she hugs natsume* Natsume-sama... Thank you! Thank you!"

And then later when he sees her picture next to the guy she longed to see. Then of course we transition into that damned song that manages to get me all teary eyed.

Finally, The Twelve Kingdoms (十二国記) episode 39:

When the entire army finally bows before Youko. The way it was handled was just awesome.

GAF, what are your top 3 scenes in anime? Ones where the scene alone makes you want to watch the entire series all over again?

Dragon Ball Z - Goku transforms into Super Saiyan for the first time

Dragon Ball Z - Gohan transforms into Super Saiyan 2 for the first time

Both similar scenes. Perfect voice acting, score, and "shit's about to get real" factor. The payoff involves the above characters fucking up everything around them.

One Piece - Luffy punches Celestial Dragon in the face

Because when a punch is animated that well and looks that satisfying, I just want to start watching cartoons.

Usually when I see these gifs or stumble upon these clips on youtube, I pop in a DBZ or One Piece DVD.

Eh, there is nudity in the background though so you might want to be careful.
But yeah, that really was a scene that left... A considerable impression.
There were a good few others too in EoE and the main series.

One Piece

This is the scene that I was very much looking forward to watching in the anime when I read it in the manga. Very emotional and just solidifies how awesome the strawhats are.

Also when robin says she wants to live, tears were shed. Still one of the best episodes of the anime to date.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

There are few shows that I disliked more than Heroic Age. As for the topic though ...

There are very few shows in recent memory that had as many "wow" moments as Flower of Evil for me :

  • Classroom scene. You know it if you've seen it. It's the defining moment in the show. There's this buildup to
the breaking down of the "walls" of the protagonist's basic social conventions and letting out the raw unfiltered person beneath and this is when everything breaks. Everything about this moment and in the way the "walk back home" scene was executed was just absolutely sublime.
  • Post-Classroom episode -
The fucking bait and switch pulled off here is hilariously awesome. The show runners almost make you feel like it's a cop out, "no one knows it was him" that did it and so an excuse to extend the material beyond the shit storm that was the previous episode, he can put up his walls again and continue life as normal. Then at the episode's end the main love interest walks up to him, looks him in the eyes, and tells him that she knows it was him. Fuuuuuuuuuck.
  • Hill scene. Though not reaching the emotional heights as the Classroom scene this sort of final breakdown of the protagonist was pretty fucking great.

Berserk - The eclipse top (cartoon) bottom (film)

Buddy. What are you doing? Edit out the spoilers dude.

HxH series is full of them but here's my pick

Also that Eva picture has boobs in it lol.

Yeah, the end of that arc sticks the landing, better than any other Shonen that I've ever seen.

And, since I haven't watched much anime, here's another HxH moment that gave me goosebumps:

Edit: Also worth mentioning (spoilers):
Netero's death scene

Spoiler? For a 26 year old manga?

That many in the west haven't seen or been exposed to? Yes. This isn't some title specific OT, you're going to have a lot of people pop up in these threads who've only seen DBZ or Attack on Titan or only whats been aired on Toonami or something similar. Berserk is amazing, the way the Golden Age arc is a lot of the reason why.

oooooo this is actually a hard one.

I'd say
-Cowboy Bebop's ending
-Either of the 2 "end of arc" battles in Gurren Lagann
-Mustang vs Envy (The way Mustang is just pure hate is just... bone chilling for me) FMA:Brotherhood

Special thanks goes to
-"I am a human" speech from Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
-The prologue scene from Kotoura-san (ie: the only really good part of the entire thing)

There are a few others i'm missing, but those are the ones I always tend to get back to watching (with the exception of Bebop because i need to rewatch it.... and the first episode is beyond boring... i really need to rewatch it)

Oh god those hirai faces.

They're meltiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.

Millennium Actress
(Actually I think the running sequence was more powerful but I'm too lazy to dig up the screencap so here you go.)

La Maison En Petit Cubes
This is like, the real shit. All of your favorite "powerful scenes" are child's play compared to this.

5 Centimeters Per Second
Too bad the story is junk.

Runner Up:

Revolutionary Girl Utena Adolescence Apocalypse
THE ROSE IS OUR DESTINY
MICHIBIKARE

That entire series is pretty hype. I especially love the battle between Age and Lekty. When she realizes that
in an INFINITE NUMBER OF REALITIES, there isn't a single one where she wins. It was like, Lolwut.

a certain scene in Full Moon O Sagashite. If you have seen it you can probably guess.
when Mitsuki discovers that Eichi died in a car accident.
Holy shit.

in Kino's journey
final episode when it seems like just another episode, then Kino leaves reluctantly and then that gut punch as her favorite country gets destroyed along with everyone in it as she watched from a mountain. then that letter from the little girl.
FUCK.

in Haibane Renmei
when Rakka rescues Reki from self destruction so she can finally achieve her day of flight

In my limited experience I kinda just want to post a few Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill scenes, but I'll hold my incredibly surface tongue.

Yeah basically the entire Millennium Actress movie is one big Wow moment.

FUCK.
I almost picked that one. There are several good choices in Kino's Journey.

Guts -> Arm > Eclipse (the brutality of the events vs the brutality of his reaction to what he'ss seeing in front of his eyes)

Bebop's Ending (especially when Blue kicks in) is the easy choice but i go with the final moments of Episode 18 (Speak Like a Child) when Faye is watching herself on a vhs-tape while she was young.

And this one caught me really off guard the first time i watched it

Gintama is really powerful at making emotional Moments (even more so for current Manga Readers)

The Moment i wanted to a Video to, the Deathscene of Kintaro the Dog, is not available on Youtube. so i took the next best thing wich was the "Death" of Otose in the Begining of the second Series.
The Fight Scene wich followed had me on the Edge the whole Time

The HxH scene where the King is asked his name always gave the chills to me in the Manga much more than the anime tbh.

Planetes where Hachimaki feels isolated in space and when he goes in the isolation chamber. The series suddenly turned into a psychological thriller.
