Top 3 Powerful scenes in anime

DBZ -
First time Goku went Super Saiyan
One Piece -
Ace's death
Berserk -
When Guts is forced to watch the only person he cares about being raped.

What? That Berserk one is false. She isn't the only one that Guts cares about, you been watching it or reading it wrong if you thought he cared nothing about any of the Hawks.

Neon-Genesis-Evangelion-Kaoro-Kaworu-Shinji.jpg

It is just a long still, but it managed to convey Shinji emotions impeccably.

Trigun - Vash vs the Nebraska father and son
My favorite anime series! This was the point where Meryl can't deny the truth anymore, and there are innocent lives on the line. Vash takes on a behemoth Nebraska son and his sassy mouthed father after they were hired to stop him by a desperate town. It's a great showcase of badassery, and I love it.

Cowboy Bebop - Ballad of Fallen Angels
Spike's first encounter with Vicious the audience sees in the show. Wonderful direction and the music makes it amazing. Seriously, it's hard to top this.

Patlabor 2 - military in the city
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uAmLaD83zT8
This was such a powerful moment the first time I viewed it. It loses much of its punch without the preceeding events, but the juxtaposition of military and civilian lives clashing is still executed so perfectly. It's a haunting scene that I find myself thinking about far more often than I would have ever guessed.

One Piece death of Bellmere. This scene actually made me tear up. Nami had a very good backstory imo.
1627720-arlongbellemere.jpg

I also don't get all the SSJ2 gohan posts. Gohan couldn't transform when his loved ones were getting beaten by cell jrs. Yet some random android that gohan never even met up until the cell games gets killed and that's enough for him to transform?

Spoiler.

Beebop
final scene was amazing so I take it.

HxH
Gon kills Pitou and losing some of his humanity.

Parasyte: The Maxim,
Mom "kills" Shinichi.

1. Strawberry Panic - The whole final episode is one huge emotional rollercoaster mindfuck thing.
Nagisa and Tamao go for the Etoile election. Shizuma is heartbroken and runs. Then she recalls all the good moments that she and Nagisa had and runs back to Nagisa. There, she publicly confesses. Tamao (who is also in love with Nagisa), pushes Nagisa away from her and congratulates her. Shizuma and Nagisa run, happy end... *credits roll* And the anime ends with a scene that shows Shizuma heartlessly dumped Nagisa, as she did with all other girls.
2. Honey and Clover - Takemoto confesses to Hagu. It is mainly impressive because
he was first a weak person, but went on a trip "of self-discovery" and came back much toucher.
A good-feel anime without being happy-pappy.
3. Mirai Nikki - The moment Yuki realises that Yuno is
a Yuno from a different world. "Just what is this girl?!"

There are very few shows in recent memory that had as many "wow" moments as Flower of Evil for me :
71e7bcc3b2611d0d9ad9e4d155be8d9c1365108554_full.jpg

  • Classroom scene. You know it if you've seen it. It's the defining moment in the show. There's this buildup to
the breaking down of the "walls" of the protagonist's basic social conventions and letting out the raw unfiltered person beneath and this is when everything breaks. Everything about this moment and in the way the "walk back home" scene was executed was just absolutely sublime.
  • Post-Classroom episode -
The fucking bait and switch pulled off here is hilariously awesome. The show runners almost make you feel like it's a cop out, "no one knows it was him" that did it and so an excuse to extend the material beyond the shit storm that was the previous episode, he can put up his walls again and continue life as normal. Then at the episode's end the main love interest walks up to him, looks him in the eyes, and tells him that she knows it was him. Fuuuuuuuuuck.
  • Hill scene. Though not reaching the emotional heights as the Classroom scene this sort of final breakdown of the protagonist was pretty fucking great.
.

Good to see Aku no Hana getting some love. It is a severely underrated anime.

HxH is the king of powerful scenes, especially in the Ant arc. Komugi and the King, Gon and Pitou, but one that doesn't get as much love is when Morel tells Gon he can join then but he has to hit him to test his power. The music, the anger, the fear! HxH is the best of the long running shonnen anime.

Then there is Gurren Lagaan. The show is packed with powerful and inspiring scenes. One scene that over my rewatches that I've come to appreciate is when
Kittan dies
. His sacrifice as well as his brief interaction with spiral power really made me feel for the character.

Neon Genesis Evangelion has tons of powerful scenes, but this one will always be my favorite.

Code Geass also has tons of powerful scenes, but
the scene when Lelouch was about to surrender to the Black Knights after the war really gave me the strongest impression of the series.

Lastly, Death Note's scene
when L died at the hands of Kira was the most powerful scene in that series.
That really should've been the concluding episode of the series.

Some absolutely incredible ones already mentioned...

Samurai Champloo - The entirity of Misguided Miscreants Pt. 2.
After Mugen finds out what actually happened in his past, his pirate "brother" Mukuro has plans that begin falling apart. The episode ends with Mukuro's sister Koza, who also left Mugen for dead, ends up being the only person alive and left completely alone, which is her greatest fear.
frame14-45.jpg

One Piece - The end of the Marineford arc. Edward Newgate -
Died standing without a single injury to his back, and proclaimed to the world "ONE PIECE EXISTS!"

Kino's Journey - All of it. The entire show is an emotional rollercoaster.

Some great moment in here, I need to watch more anime to experience them. My favorite is from the final fight in FMA Brotherhood

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMo8He1PaJA
That moment when Al sacrifices his body, and when Ed realizes what he's doing , the rage mode he goes into was a huge FUCK YES moment. And all the army, chimeras, and alchemists all cheering him on was great too

There are so many good moments from One Piece
Walk to Arlong Park
Ace's death
I want to live
Going Merry burned
Luffy punches Celestial dragon
Shanks stops the war

Shin Sekai Yori rounds up those, i think.
Out of control madman flashback, realizing the new Out-Of-Control is the forced child of the two disappeared children, WE ARE HUMAN ending against the judge.

One Piece \ FMA:BH also provide a pretty impressive quantity.

FMA's
Hohenheim at the grave
always, always gets me.

You guys' entries are awesome :D

I should have had an honorable mention thrown up there:

Haibane Renmei (灰羽連盟) final episode:

When Rakka saves Reki, and her 'sin' is finally revealed and explained

Ahhhh what a fantastic series. It drops a huge bomb to the viewers, not so much for the characters, but for ourselves when we feel as they do. I think it's probably one of the more relatable things I've ever seen in an anime.

Pictures with no description or context, sweet

Pokemon:

Ash letting go of his Butterfree, montage showcasing their journey. I believe it was the first wild pokemon ash actually caught on his own if I'm not mistaken.

Charmander, abandoned by trainer, but keeps on waiting for him in that one spot it was told to wait, even in rainstorms where there's risk of the fire on its tail going out (which would result in death).

One Piece

This is the scene that I was very much looking forward to watching in the anime when I read it in the manga. Very emotional and just solidifies how awesome the strawhats are.

Also when robin says she wants to live, tears were shed. Still one of the best episodes of the anime to date.

Literally just reached this bit in one piece...great show

Code Geass the thread? Code Geass the thread!

Okay so seriously I don't have a top 3 but here are a collection of some of my favorites (a lot from Code Geass)

Warning Spoilers below...

End of the first Season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSFCCq1umek

Worst part about that? Had to wait several months for it to air do to the Hurricane (I believe, maybe Earthquake) that hit Japan as it was airing, then even after it aired had to wait almost a full year to see what would happen in the second season.

The rest of the second season MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT!!...

Shirley's Death: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxiOvYY8igg I both love and hate this scene, I hate it because Shirley is such a tragic character she loses her father, finds out the boy she loves is the reason he died, she loses her memories only to regain them again and then dies at the hands of Rollo who I believe the collective audience wanted to murder after this scene. Many characters don't deserve to die that end up passing but you really had to feel for this poor girl so much shit she goes through only to still resolve herself to helping Lulu despite everything and is then shot because freaking Rollo. I do want to note that I think this scene also shows just how powerful her love is, after Lulu uses his Geass in a sad attempt to save her (which also goes to show that despite its power Geass is not absolute) what she says is very striking that she'll love him every time shes reborn and she says this BECAUSE of Lulu's order for her not to die, because that's all she can do, she can't be saved.

Lelouch kills his parents and awakens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbS7v68uKQg such a good scene, with Suzaku/Lelouch/C.C. standing against the 'return to the past' that Charles and Marianne speak of, using his power on 'god' itself to make a request, not a command and then having it end up killing them both which leads directly into...

Lelouch becomes emperor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZxYnqkN4q8 Lelouche presents himself to the world, takes complete control of the empire with his Geass and then Spinzaku revealed as his Knight, the show and Lelouch constantly state how powerful himself and Suzaku would be if they worked together and now they are, this sent chills down my spine when I first watched it with what would happen from here on out.

Then finally...

Zero's Requiem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Vw7cCrlSq0 This is the ending of the show, but the most impressive thing about this scene is everything that comes before it, Lelouch becomes emperor, and it seems he has become corrupted with power and will change the world by force, he attacks the rest of the world along with the UN/Black Knights, uses his Geass on Nunally, and takes the entire world under his command, you think here we have a dark ending about absolute power corrupting absolutely, we think Suzaku had died against Kallen, and Lelouch had won... Only for all to have been a plan of his own, to bring back Zero the peoples martyr and have Zero(Suzaku who is not actually dead because Spinzaku cannot die XD) kill him in order to bring about a real chance for peace. He has made himself the ultimate evil of the world and by having the whole world hate him, the world is united and then instead of revealing in that power he gives his life in order to make the world really have a chance for peace. Obviously the world isn't that simple but he chooses to bet on the people of the world despite having looked down upon them and used them with his Geass, he in the end set out exactly what he wanted to do, what is said exactly in the narration, he wanted to make a world in which his sister could be happy and in the end he does so.

Okay that was all Code Geass but I do have some more, just out of time to post before I go to work, will update when I get home.

Also:
Digimon_The_movie_Omnimon_Born.jpg

Digimon movie.
The Japanese soundtrack strikes the entire scene home. It's one of the best 'eleventh-hour desperation' moments I've ever seen.

Yes, Requiem is perfect for that scene (instead of some rock song...) and the OST is amazing. Hosoda did amazing work on Summer Wa-Bokura no Wargame.

This scene in RahXephon destroyed me when I first saw it.

iGZ3U3U.png

Really sad and fucked up scene all around.

Finally this gets posted! Was just about to do it myself. RahXephon, even if very similar to Eva, still stands on its own. That scene, had quite an impact....

Also yes, nods to the last ep of Haibane Renmei, and the ending of Madoka when you learn, absolutely everything. Madoka was the first time in a long time that an anime had blew my mind with such an impact like that.

A lot of good picks in here and a lot similar to mine! I can't narrow it down to just 3, but One Piece is such a goldmine for memorable scenes. Off the top of my head:

Claymore -
Teresa gets beheaded by Priscilla.
FMA Brotherhood:
Nina being used in her Tucker's experiment and what happens therafter.
Mai Hime:
Akane's encounter with Miyu in the forest.
Last Exile:
Claus' and Lavie pilot the fighting vanship for the first time.
Hunter X Hunter:
Kite, Gon and Killua meet Pitou for the first time.
Hunter X Hunter:
Kurapica captures Uvogin. And also the fight between them afterwards
One Piece:
Luffy punches the celestial dragon.
One Piece:
Robin admitting she wants to live.
Death Note:
Light thinks he wins agaisnt L when he & Misa run into him outside. Right before they go into custody.
RahXephon
Mishima awakens RahXephon. Very beginning, but I loved how it was done
DBZ:
Gohan goes SSJ2.
Berserk:
The entire last bit after the eclipse. I never read the manga or knew anything about this show when I watched it over a decade ago, still crazy to me.

There are few shows that I disliked more than Heroic Age. As for the topic though ...

There are very few shows in recent memory that had as many "wow" moments as Flower of Evil for me :

The greatest tragedy of all is that some of the most powerful scenes from the manga weren't adapted and likely never will be.
Saeki raping Kasuga, burning down the fort, Nakamura breaking into Kasuga's house, the fucking summer festival oh god

Full Metal Alchemist
Theory of Avarice. Edward's fight with Greed. One of the most fantastic fights in Full Metal Alchemist, followed by such a powerful emotional punch. I don't know if it's just the perfect combination of music and dialogue or what.
It's so powerful watching Edward fall to pieces after taking another man's life.

That still destroys me to this day, no joke.

Saikano had some pretty powerful scenes, but it's been way too long since I watched it.

Full Metal Alchemist also had some pretty poignant ones, specifically
Hughes and Nina Tucker. Nina
was just such a blow for young impressionable me at the time.

As for visual/scenic impact alone, I have to go with Macross Frontier's ending/last battle. All time favorite final battle and mecha battle.

Finally, The Twelve Kingdoms (十二国記) episode 39:

When the entire army finally bows before Youko. The way it was handled was just awesome.

That entire episode is just so satisfying. Such an amazing end to the best arc within any anime ever. Personally I'd rate the moment shortly before it
right when she appears before the army and the generals
.

Gundam 0083 War in the Pocket got me pretty good here...

hqdefault.jpg

as did this in Samurai Champloo...

schamp3.jpg

Lot of others came to mind but I've already been beaten!

Krillin's death on the original Dragon Ball.

GokuFindsKrillindead+killer+was+tambourine.png

Also the entire ending to Dragon Ball GT (Fuck you, haters), especially the part with Goku and Krillin sparring one last time, while Master Roshi watches.
