These two pop out in my head.

Dragon Ball Z
Vegeta explodes.

One Piece
Luffy gives Nami his hat before confronting Arlong.

From the New World - Final episode: the scene where
Squealer is given "peace" after years upon years of suffering is immensely powerful in the context of the prior revelations of the episode.

Jin-Roh - The whole ending is powerful and understated in it's execution.. that fade to the credits.

Aku No Hana - A number of moments spread throughout the whole series specifically in the last several episodes. Can't really point to specifics.

Off the top of my head
Black Lagoon: Episode 24
"DON'T LOOK AT HER, ROCK! LOOK AT ME!"
Psycho-Pass: Episode 11, ill just use this image in the spoiler Steins;Gate Episode 24
There was a scientific rationale for that! Because... important memories, including, but not limited to, one's first kiss, are stored in the hippocampus, which makes them harder to forget. So I figured... (sometimes something a little more positive can be powerful)

Special Mention to Fate/Zero Finale
Saber being ordered to destroy the graile

Wolfs Rain, the death of every major character especially Cher, Toboe, Hige and Blue.
Hajime No Ippo - Basically the entire Takamura vs Bryan Hawk fight
Rurouni Kenshin - Death of the Kiyosato Akira

Akame ga Kill has quiet a few of them especially the end of the first episode since it's really unexpected at that point.

1.Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Episode 27-

All the suffering, losses, and hard work come together into one of the best climaxes in any medium. The whole episode really gives a sense of not just the scale but the progress the characters have made.

2.Eureka Seven Episode 26-
http://sakuga.yshi.org/data/5759887e98e5ac897792ff3aea9930fe.webm
The reunion of Renton and Eureka after having been separated from a number of episodes. This scene is also made more powerful in that it shows Eureka showing initiative for the first time in the series and establishes the relationship going forward between the two. It's a homage done to the original Macross series but it's done so well that I feel it surpasses the original.

3.G Gundam-45 (Domon's final duel with Master Asia)

The School of the Undefeated of the East!
The Winds of the King!
Zenshin!
Keiretsu!
Tenpa kyoran!
Look, the East is Burning Red!

Mecha shows are the fucking master of this.

I think the Walk to Arlong Park from One Piece is up there for me. That's what really got me hooked on the show. Also, the part where Luffy beats Crocodile. Music had a lot to do with it, but God, you just wanted someone to beat the snot out of that guy.

HxH: Episode 111
Palace invasion by the Hunters..... more specifically Netero and Zeno.

Never been so hyped after an episode as an anime only watcher at the time. So many different scenarios and battle possibilities were flying through my head. It was kind of like God coming down from the heavens to face the ultimate evil.

Hype levels were at maximum for the whole week and 112 only maintained the hype. Jeezus

And to think during that 24 minutes of hype.... only 5 seconds had passed. lol

Some good picks in here. Don't want to repeat anything so I'll choose this scene from Chihayafuru

Chihayafuru-20-3.png

After trying and failing many times to get promoted in tournament ranking, Taichi's sensei offers to make an exception and promote him. Taichi refuses and wants to do it himself.

Heh, everything posted from HxH in this thread but this:

...is from the Chimera Arc. Maybe 'cause it's the most recent, but there are a ton more scenes form other arcs that were powerful!

Nah, bruh, Gon fights Hisoka in the Heaven's Arena. Hisoka was not in the Chimera Ant Arc

No WMT examples yet? Too old and niche I guess. Dog of Flanders may be the most well known one. The scene was even parodied in Pokemon:

I won't spoil the thing itself since it's from the ending.

Every single Straw Hat crew's tragic backstory from One Piece. The one's that were pretty heavy for me were:

Chopper -
Chopper's relationship with Dr. Hiriluk that mirrored a father and son relationship. His speech he gives before he dies was tear jerking.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqlwhoDH5ac

Brook -
Brook and the Rumbar pirates singing one last song before they slowly die from poison.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dHBBbZ-wXs

Nami -
The death of Nami's adoptive mother, Bellemere.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rkgy-3gScWY

Let me count all the One Piece moments

1. Nami's backstory/Bellemere's death
2. "Luffy, help me"
3. Chopper's backstory
4. Luffy vs Ussop
5. "I Want to Live"
6. Luffy vs Lucci
7. Viking death
8. Ussop returns to the crew
9. The seperation of the crew
10. Ace's death

The shift was sudden but i loved it.

I've only watched the whole series through once, and at the time that moment made me feel uncomfortable because it feels like Hachimaki's personality changed completely and he wasn't the same character. Kind of like what happens to Light in Death Note, the character's personality changes to such an extent it just feels sad and cold after that.

However I really need to rewatch it as I think I'd appreciate the details a whole lot more at my age now.

I know for sure that (manga spoilers)
Law's backstory
will be up there on the lists. Brutal shit.

Some key anime moments I can name from the top of my head, only thinking of popular big name ones for now unfortunately:

Full Metal Alchemist:
Hughe's death
Fuck this one still gets me all emotional
Code Geass:
Shirley's death
Inuyasha:
Kikyo's death final act
Wolf Children: "The Decision"
Gundam 00:
Lockon's death as well as other crew death scenes.
Gundam Wing:
Heero Yuy threatening Relena.
Gundam Seed:
Ray Le Cruseat speech on humanity. Powerful stuff at the time.
One Piece:
Ace's death
Pokemon: Charizard being left at that Charizard only place. Huge moment in PKMN. As well as Pidgeot. Ash you better go get Pidgeot back one of these days you fucker.

The shit-kicking that follows is nothing short of amazing.

A few people are saying Gurren Lagann's last episode was powerful. While I agree, I felt episode 11 had a very powerful moment.
Simon, emotional about losing Kamina, breaks out of his funk and saves Team Dai-Gurren.
I may not be doing it justice, so watch it for yourself.

Jin-Roh - The whole ending is powerful and understated in it's execution.. that fade to the credits.
Absolutely. Okiura's ability to capture human emotion in facial animation is incredible.

Patlabor 2 - military in the city
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uAmLaD83zT8
This was such a powerful moment the first time I viewed it. It loses much of its punch without the preceeding events, but the juxtaposition of military and civilian lives clashing is still executed so perfectly. It's a haunting scene that I find myself thinking about far more often than I would have ever guessed.
Gladly seconding this. And I don't think this scene would be the same without Kenji Kawai's sound. In terms of atmosphere, this is absolute perfection.

One Piece - Luffy punches Celestial Dragon in the face

Because when a punch is animated that well and looks that satisfying, I just want to start watching cartoons.

Usually when I see these gifs or stumble upon these clips on youtube, I pop in a DBZ or One Piece DVD.

as far as im concerned this is the best punch in any anime.
