It hasn't meant that since e-sports went XTREME.
Uhh, no.
GG means good game and is the polite way to end a game.

I will never understand esports and the need to feel legitimized. If you have a problem with how high-placing players act, beat them in tournament.
:lolCOD and dota are the toilets of gaming.
You'll notice that most people will make a subtle difference between competitive games and esports. As far as FPS go, Quake and CS have earned the moniker, CoD still has a ways to go (imo, obviously). Why is CoD even an e-sport? the game takes no skill whatsoever, especially on console where it almost aims for you.

It's a bit sad these guys would carry on so much without a physical altercation. In my opinion they should head to the boxing gym, rugby field, football field, basketball court, etc... and work out their issues, they'll suddenly care a lot less about getting shot in CoD.
No, I haven't played video games at that
level, but there is no way the mental stress of losing in a video game can be compared to a 250+ lb man coming at you full speed trying to uproot you. To say otherwise is just silly. People have gotten serious physical damage to their bodies playing sports and that's a constant worry in the back of every players mind.
You're either really under selling the stress of playing a professional sport or completely overselling the stress of video games. If someone hits you wrong in any play in football you could seriously damage your body, end your career and be in constant physical pain the rest of your life. If you die in a CoD tournament you respawn.
And I expect better from "professional"
gamers. I expect them to act somewhat professional. I don't expect them to act like every other idiot I have to listen to online. They're in a spotlight and representing companies and a league. They should act like it. If people aren't going to act somewhat professional then ban them from the league until they grow up. Because them being there is only bringing the opinion of professional gaming down.
What does beating someone at CoD have to do with basic decorum? If you act like a 12 year old who just learned how to say 'fuck' and 'prick' then you will be treated as such.

Have you been in a LoL match? I have played around 10 games and there has always been immaturity.
I have been sort of poking at that point. Put some real thought and effort into something which may actually enrich your life, not games. Have fun with games but don't let that change or cause you to behave like 5 year olds.
I don't watch tournaments to see personalities. I watch tournaments to see skilled play by skilled players. I don't see why I should care about the personalities of the people playing.
Why on earth don't they have any kind of behavior or sportsmanship rules in place? This is insane, literally insane.
:lol

Yeshave you ever been in a sports event??

I was thinking of a more moderate example where you get trash talking, along the lines of a competitive pick up game of basketball at your local YMCA lol. I can see why you were getting indignant about my response, and you're point still applies some, but believe me I agree with you.
I'm getting pretty tired of the dota has the worst community stereotype. Every single game I've played online has had assholes playing them too.COD and dota are the toilets of gaming.
I totally agree with you that the organizers are the ones who should be regulating their behavior. Everyone loses their head from time to time and lose their shit. But the is issue is that there IS no regulation, so these people get to act whatever way they want.I feel like I'm getting away from my base point, you put somebody in a situation that is at least somewhat stressful, with emotions running high, and it elicits a base reaction; with some of that stress and emotion being ascribed by the players themselves, just depends on how serious they take it. Some people can repress it, some let loose with it, and some of those that do get punished for it; It depends on the environment they are in, and if these players aren't very professional it shouldn't be totally
unexpected, because for one they are teenagers before they are professional gamers, and two, it's just as much up the league to enforce a professional atmosphere as its up to the players.
to reiterate, I think it's human instinct to become aggressive and trash talk in these
typ of situation, but since we are logical creatures we can circumvent any base instinct we may have, if we choose to. So I can't look down on these players for doing it, even if the situation is petty to me, because obviously they care and most things only mean as much as we choose to make them mean.
If at any point this came of as incoherent, i apologize, I haven't slept and I don't feel like proof reading.
A lot of these tournaments have the players on mic or at least their yelling is audible. Their personality is essentially forced upon me if I'm watching the feed and don't have it on mute.I don't watch tournaments to see personalities. I watch tournaments to see skilled play by skilled players. I don't see why I should care about the personalities of the people playing.
Even this, it depends on where you live. In many places in the US if you talk trash to the wrong person in a pickup game you might end up lying face down on the pavement. There are real world consequences to acting like an ass.
Playing a video game against someone who is acting like that is just not fun. There are no consequences for poor behavior.

Just yesterday I was kicked from a cs go match because I didn't listen to this guys direction one round.
This is why I play against bots.
Anyone else reminded of the apes at the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey?

DOTA and such is probably the worst I've ever seen, many other have the same experience, what can you do about it? Folks are used to dealing with PUG play in games and a noobie often will just be ignored. In the smaller game environments of stuff like MOBAs and it's highly competetive culture, those noobs face far more upfront anger. It's not the same as playing a FPS with a bunch of other players who will pretty much take over the game while the sucky player has little impact. In a MOBA the sucky player gets alot more attention put on them as their actions are more impactful.

I keep seeing people mention Dota and yeah its a problem in the chat but at "professional tournys" Ive watched they have been pretty civilized..
have you ever been in a sports event??
I went to EGL last year to take part in a mortal kombat tournament, didn't see any of this kind of stupid behaviour from the FGC, they're much nicer guys, really friendly.
So this isn't really an example of esports if you ask, haven't bothered reading after the first page though so this has probably already been said, needs to be said still.
Haven't there been multiple threads about how the FGC is homophobic and misogynistic? I remember one thread about a Video where everyone was laughing at some dude that started crying because people were ragging on him so hard.
The FCG has its bad apples, too.I went to EGL last year to take part in a mortal kombat tournament, didn't see any of this kind of stupid behaviour from the FGC, they're much nicer guys, really friendly.
