Toukiden 2 |OT| Action Hunting Gameplay Feat. Open World

is there some big ass, claymore-style action? Cause thats my jam.

Thats even my jam in Zelda which 95% of people seem to hate lol

I think if "Big n Slow" is your jam, then Clubs are the thing.

So on the Mitama front, I've got this setup going on:

Will never gun without Readiness again. Can highly recommend this for your Mitama planning needs.

whoa, weapons are... not what I expected. I thought it was all going to be mostly swords and whatnot, but theres a fucking rifle. Also a bow and some giant gauntlets and a scythe with a chain, which I chose at the start.

I need to do all the tutorials like you guys say, is that soon?

Also this dlc costume seems ridiculously good to start with, I dont even think I want to use it tbh. I also dont like how it looks.

And what are these Mitam things? also from dlc, theres 5 apparently.

Co-op is not part of the story. It has it's own seperate progression. You unlock co-op after playing the single-player story for like an hour at most (maybe less).

Unlike SP, you don't go into the open world in co-op, you just accept missions that teleport you to the places (sometimes this can put you into an arena with the boss or give you the entire zone to find the boss). You complete Red missions to unlock more phases of missions.

Your progress in MP might be a little hampered by SP progress in the sense that while you can unlock all the Phases of missions in MP without ever progressing past chapter 1 in the SP, you won't have access to some of the upgraded base stuff (like the ability to upgrade your weapon past 3) that you get from playing SP.

Why the hell would they do this again? Nearly forcing single player in a multiplayer dominated genre. One of the worst things about Toukiden 1 (well, along with that garbage ass PC port)

Game is extremely easy if you bring alone all of your AI buddies because they are ridiculously good (seems to be carry over from Kiwami). I suggest only bring 2 companion at a time until you hit Phase 8 to make the game a bit more challenging (also gave you the chance to destroy all parts).

Mitama are the souls of dead heroes, usually famous characters from Asian history or folklore. You can equip 3 (it'll unlock after the first few missions). 1 for offense, 1 for defense, 1 just cause. They do different things depending on which slot you put em in, and they have things called "Boosts" which are passive effects. You can use 3 Boosts per Mitama you equip.

Mitama level as you use them. They start shitty, but unlock their Boosts as they level. Fully leveled Mitama give you a shard which you can use to make uber weapons.

Consider Mitama as your non-gear character progression. Instead of traditionally "leveling up", you find, equip, level and manipulate Mitama.

Here's an example of my Boost screen:
GdYZfjW.png

9 Boosts active, 3 Boosts per Mitama I have equipped. Each does something different. Readiness, for example, make me move faster while aiming a gun and increases my firing speed.

really liking the character designs in this.

I've been playing for at least a few hours each night if I can, not far online - only up to phase 2 but up to chapter 4 offline. Really loving it, so far it might be the best MonHun clone I've played in a while. This is probably the best one I've played since Freedom Wars, so far.

Pic I took of my character recently:

Anyone considered a discord and organising hubs? Some of the names of hubs are uh, curious.

racism warning

phase 11. no niggers please."

coupled with a few other I've seen like that.

I am going to spend so much time grinding in the ruins. Just endless large oni fights, as far as the eye can see...

I do think they should just give you a proceed yes/no prompt after every 5th floor though. The go stand in the correct room and wait for the timer to expire crap is annoying,

I love how big the weapons are. Just did the sword tutorial, that shit is like the washing pole in dark souls lol

I didnt really care for sword tho. lets try the rest then.

edit: yooo the rifle is awesome. Dunno what to go with >_<

edit: oh damn sword and shield tho :o

Is it just me or this game as way to much story? I feel like 50% of my play time so far has been spent reading dialog...in a game about hunting demons. It's not even all that interesting.

is the stuff you do in the weapon tutorials all you can do or do you gain new stuff? Some weapons seem a lot more complex than others.

is the stuff you do in the weapon tutorials all you can do or do you gain new stuff? Some weapons seem a lot more complex than others.

You don't learn new moves, apart from non-weapon specific stuff you get from Mitama. Weapons are definitely set in different categories (some are safe and slow, some are bad on the ground and great in the air, etc etc). You can use anything to get through the game though

Guns are super safe, but it's kind of like playing a completely different game. While the melee dudes are dancing around and comboing and crap, I'm at the other end of the field spamming boosted piercing shots.

There's a couple nuances and things for some of the weapons that you don't go over in the trials, but mostly minor stuff. Batlle is more about timing your attacks and positioning and stuff, as enemies get faster/tougher, opposed to learning new combos.

I feel like Sword and Shield is probably the most complex weapon in the game for this version, lots of different options - that's why I'm maining it so far. I still switch back to Sword and dual knives from time to time though, which is what I used on Kiwami.

after doing all the tutorials I realised that weapons are kinda like "classes" really, so now I understand more why you focus on one (hell you only have one equipped anyway).

My faves were rifle and sword and shield, with chain & sickle, bow, and naginata also cool. What to do ;_;

Probably go with sword and shield, I fucking love that hidden blade on the shield. So something I wanted to ask, do wepons get crazy looking in this series, or more normal looking?

edit: bow was awkward to play because of the button layout tho, funny that this guy has the same problem and actually recomends using the PS4 custom-button thing to change it up, which is nice, but I cant really do that on PC, but then again I probably wouldnt play bow anyway

Not quite Monster Hunter tier, but pretty big and gaudy. The only understated designs I've seen have been the starter ones and some of the earth element ones for some reason.

Nah man I cant, I tried the gun again and that shit is just too cool. That reload animation when you toss out all the ammo is so good.

Sorry Pejo, im team #lanrutcon :3

BrUcE, the valorous joint-op slayer that joined me on the final area, simply thanked and left when the final boss showed up.

You're a effin coward, BrUcE.

Hey guys. So I searched the thread and I see that there's some pop-in issues and slight drops in frame-rate on the vita version. My question is how does it compare overall, including graphically, to Kiwami? If it's the same, I'll be happy, but if the open-world aspect is detrimental to its performance and graphics then I'll have to do some more research on it.

how am I supposed to know what these stats mean? Like, what is Aegis? Or this weapon has more dmg but I lose DEX, but I dont know what DEX does. Am I missing a screen where it explains what the stats are?

Some of it is in the encyclopedia iirc. Or in the manual. The manual has a bunch of info that the encyclopedia doesn't, so check it out when you have the time.

Aegis determines the rate which the red portion of your health bar replenishes (higher = faster).

DEX affects critical rate, which deals 50% more damage. This is supposedly the formula: ( ( Dexterity x 3 ) / ( Attack + Elemental Attack ) x 100 )
Note that the elemental stat also affects your critical rate, so a pure crit build would give up on elements. Hybrid builds can work, though.

hmm im not so sure about rifle afterall. It seems all im doing is standing back shooting things while my posse does all the work :/

just been running around doing sidequests I find in the woods on the way to this main quest, one of them had a big spider oni which was pretty cool. Im still having a hard time wrapping my head around this mitama busines tho, I keep getting new ones.

I havent made any weapon or upgraded so I can still freely change I guess.

edit: man, Im not sure if this sidequest I did was supposed to be high lvl or what, but that fucking Oni took ages to kill, and I used up ll my healing lol. Was fun tho. Also did another big one, story wise (still early, after you
track down the tracks using that ghost vision
), that one was much easier. Combat is a bit clusterfuck-y (well, a lot) but its fun, I changed to shield and I like it a lot more now that im in the action. Made a new sword/shield and upgraded it to +3, dunno if I should be doing that this erly on not but whatever.

Or at all. I built the Cruspisces (or however you spell that) armor set and it must have 0 aegis because my red health doesn't recover at all. Even while running around in safe open world for half hour stretches.

Doesn't really matter though since I always gravitate towards DEF mitama. I've switched off naginatas and been trying out spears the last couple nights too and goddamn do they destroy body parts fast.

The environments don't look as good as Kiwami, there's a lot less detail. There is pop-out for small Oni when there are a lot on screen, and I have had one instance where I was struck by an invisible manhunter. Overall performance has been ok-to-good on the Vita, and the gameplay is still damn fun. I can recommend the Vita port because its a great game to have on the go, but there were obvious technical sacrifices made to get the open world working.

Ok thanks for the that. Looks like vita is still a good choice then.

There is something wrong with my progression I am in Chapter 4? Where you go and get Humora back vs the catfish but I am being one hit killed by the Oni in Age of Grace area!!

My defense is too low so I decided it is time to ditch Soma pre-order bonus armor and create a new armor but nope not even lvl 6 armor (which I power level to it using player cards of end game slayers I joined online) but still those armor are weaker than Soma armor!!

What to do?
I didn't blast through story missions I actually took my time with open world side missions and online missions but I still feel I am a head of the game difficulty carve :(

What is the best armor to get? At this point am going to farm online missions for end game armors

ok I think im getting this Mitama system more. Each category will do different things in different slots, depending on your weapon.

Also I assume you eventually get followers of each type, cause for example right now, if I use a rifle (which im back to using, I cant decide for the life of me to focus on rifle or sword/shield lol) I want mostly melee guys to draw their fire away from me, and right now, 2 of my followers are also gun guys lol.

I do like just going out and doing sidequests tho, and running into those joint operations and whatnot.

edit: one thing really annoying is that, as far as I can tell, there is no way to turn on subtitles for the chatter your dudes will have during combat, so I feel like Im missing lots of information. That seems like a big misstep on KT's part.

I really want this game. Played original Toukiden on Vita and Kiwami on PS4 a lot.

But I am too deep into other games - and all of them are 50+ hour games. Didn't even start Breath of the Wild and I am only in Chapter 2 of Yakuza 0, lol.

Any news / rumors / hints for a Toukiden 2: Kiwami / Enhanced Edition? Might as well wait for this version.

It's been like that since the first Toukiden. TBH, I prefer it that way because if there's subtitle I would get distracted. While my japanese is limited, I understand those chatters well enough to know that most of them are trivial battle chatter to make the battle less quiet. Option to turned on battle chatter subtitle wouldn't hurt though (as I'm curious what our companions says all the time).

oh I just realised I had completely forgotton about that mission npc >_>

I really like that the followers pik up all the shit for you lol

Yea it's super nice to not have to R1 everything yourself, agreed.

I'm about 30 hours into the game and only on chapter 3. I branched out a bit and tried some new weapons, and settled on bouncing back between Sword and Sword 'n Shield.

My big draw in Kiwami for Dual Knives was the ability to go airborne and stab higher body parts, but with the demon claw in this game, I don't have to worry about that anymore, so it just isn't as fun for me in this game. I'm kinda surprised they didn't give dual knives some sort of new gimmick to make up for giving everyone else easy aerial access.

I also like the new chain whip, but it feels like my kill times are way slower with it. I'm probably just playing it wrong.

I'm loving some of the armor in this game. Here's the set I'm currently running (just started rank 3)

oh lol theres a whole bunch of new tutorials, basically explaining all the mitama shit Ive been struggling to figure out >_<

It gave all weapons a chance at hitting higher parts, but if you couldn't stay up in the air before you still can't. The best I can do with a gauntlet or LS is hit once on my way up and then use the hand again, they can't combo in the air. Meanwhile you can still go ham on those horns with the C&S or knives until your stamina is gone.

Also, knives did get a new move, that aerial X+triangle where you bounce off an oni to stay in the air for longer.

Is armor just for defense and elemental resistance?

Wit Mitama, what is more important, the abilities or the skills? And you unlock skills in a Mitama by leveling them up?

Do elemental procs show up graphically? I have some knives that supposedly do earth damage but I can't see the element unless it's just getting lost in the chaos of battle.

Still early game, trying to make sense of things, coming from MH, things are familiar and yet so unfamiliar.

oh awesome one of the mitama tyles is a straight up healer

Are you sure you aren't inside a red miasma zone? There is absolutely nothing that should be one-hitting you during the story missions.

Equip goes up to rank 6 in this game, while it went until 9 on the previous entries. People think T2 Kiwami will give us more ranks.

Either way, Kiwami JP was announced 2 months after we got AoD, and T2 around the same time after we got Kiwami. So maybe wait until May to see if they announce something.

rifles are interesting because you have to take into account the type of ammo they use, so even if its better than a previous one, the shots might not be to your liking.

For example I'm mainly using explosive and sniper shots, scatter was cool early on as a shotgun type thing but Ive been using explosive for the same effect. I dont understand the slow moving purple balls ammo (thats the third one my current rifle has)

Oh, you poor fool.

There are only 3 types of ammo you want to use:
- Piercing is king. You can hit multiple weak spots, or just pile it through a large enemy and watch it hit a bunch of times. Piercing means you can shoot a weak spot through a wall and through the monster itself. The bigger the monster, the happier you are.
- Sniper shots. If you aren't hyper accurate and hitting weak spots every time, then piercing is better.
- Delayed shots. If you want to live dangerously, cause you have to get close to make the shots explode _in_ the enemy (thus hitting multiple weak spots at once). This is incredibly dangerous with the late game monsters, so I hope you've been keeping your armor up to date.

Just stick to piercing and learn to position yourself correctly for maximum hits.

It's going to change your life. Feels amazing nailing a round through the back of a giant cow demon and hearing it score 6 hits.

does it rocochet or something?

couple of questions about the map. Does it show all the sidequests available or do you have to look for them? I think Ive done all I can, but earlier I noticed there was a icon on the map for a quest I hadnt done, so I went and did it. So, if its not on the map, there arent any more sidequests at that moment?

Also, is there any point (or can you even) to try to open more of the map, or does that happen gradully through the story?

The piercing round does damage for each increment of time it spends travelling through an enemy. So let's say you knock down a two story giant onto his back and then fire a round through his foot lengthwise up his body, it'll score several hits as it traverses the hitbox. Bigger the enemy, more damage you do.

As for the sidequest question: some sidequests don't show on the map. More sidequests open up as you do main (and side) quests. The map opens up massively. You can generally explore a bit beyond what you've unlocked most of the time. So if you explore everywhere, you'll find Oni you're not supposed to fight yet (and then you can get massively good gear from them ahead of schedule).

The map will open up as you go further into the story. As for sidequests, I believe some NPC's will only appear at certain times of the day (could be wrong but I guessed as much when trying to hand in a quest objective and seeing no final marker for it). They generally remain on the map as long as you've explored that area and were close enough to it.

Pierce bullets literally go through the Oni so if timed right, you'll hit a bunch of weak points when they're aligned to the line of fire. I think a charged shot makes the bullet larger.

why is this damn rope so rare? I just want to upgrade my weapons damn it ;_;

You can use the X button to check individual components on the upgrade screen to see where they come from.

yeha I know, still cant get any lol.

this Ruins thing is hard, im only up to floor 5 and already half dead with little skills left ;_;

edit: oh shit I just got a refill, I think from that little thing you pray at? :o

edit: theres one on each floor too lol >_<

why is this damn rope so rare? I just want to upgrade my weapons damn it ;_;

You think that now, but in two more days you'll have a stack of 200 of them and be "why do I have all this rope?"

I honestly wouldn't waste too much time/resources upgrading lower tier equipment in the beginning.

well this ruins expedition up to floor 10 (its the basic quest) sure was a ton of fun!

It was also the most monster hunter-esque aprt so far, well at least monster wise, since it was all a bunch of big guys in a room. Got a lot of materials from it too. Guess ill do this infinite one up to floor 5 also just for the quest then.

I can use my PS4 controller on the pc version, correct? What about button prompts? Do they show the correct buttons depending on which controller you have? I'm asking cause that shit is like my pet peeve lol

It only support Xbox controllers, so DS4 only with DS4Windows/InputMapper. And nope, no PS button prompts, Xbox only.
