Toyota is killing the Scion brand

we all knew her
I had a tC for five years and have owned an xB for almost as long. They have been great cars and this news saddens me a bit. Link.

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 3, 2016 – Scion, established as a separate brand in 2003 as a laboratory to explore new products and processes to attract youth customers, is now transitioning back to the Toyota brand. Scion achieved its goals of developing unique products and processes, and bringing in new, younger customers to Toyota. With more than a million cars sold, 70 percent of Scions were purchased by customers new to Toyota and 50 percent were under 35 years old.

As part of the brand transition, beginning in August 2016, MY17 Scion vehicles will be rebadged as Toyotas. The FR-S sports car, iA sedan and iM 5-door hatchback will become part of the Toyota family. The tC sports coupe will have a final release series edition and end production in August 2016. The C-HR, which recently debuted at the L.A. Auto Show, will be a part of the Toyota line-up.

Seeing those sales figures, I understand why they're doing this.

Pretty sad tbh, now I won't be able to recognize shitty drivers texting their besties and boy-racers on sight.

My first and only car is an xd. While it's not even branded as a Scion outside of North America, it has been extremely reliable. Sad to see it go.

Under the new Toyota badge, Scion models will gain Toyota's perception of strong reliability, while Toyota injects freshness to their line. Not bad.

Their recent models were over priced and extremely ugly. And the XB always reminded me of Voltron's foot. But not in a good way.

The bold sleek styling was all like KAKOW, but the 2.4 liter dual overhead cam engine with 160 HP was all like KAKOWWW.

I have a 2006 tc. Car has treated me well these past few years.

I've got a 2005 tC. The thing just keeps running. I would have bought a new one but can't justify it when this thing keeps working.

Didn't they do the fixed pricing with the scions too? I hate having to haggle over prices on cars.

Yes, but honestly, its a bunch of BS. You can still haggle on Scions. I remember when the FR-S first came out and my local dealer was asking $31k! citing "market adjustment" as the reason for it.

good. maybe we can finally have a real 86 successor and get a turbo. sorry but that crap FA20 in the frs sucks without a turbo...

I almost bought an FR-S, but i sat in it and felt like a giant.... so I went with another car.

I've owned a 2006 Scion xA since Dec 05. Love my little city car. Still runs well, even in Chicago winters. I'll probably keep it for another year and upgrade to something else, but the aspect that saddens me most about this news is the loss of the business model. Building and ordering my xA was so effortless and stress free. I absolutely hate searching / haggling for new car models that don't have exactly the features that I want. I wish more brands sold models like Scion did.

Eh, its still an 86 successor, its just missing the proper badges, but even then it still has this badge on the side..

As for a turbo, dont hold your breath either way. Sales of the 86 havent been what Toyota was hoping for. Any updating of the 86 since 2012 have been minimal at best.

Unfortunately the FRS will probably fade away like the FJ Cruiser, I suppose there's just too many other options in their respective segments. RIP Scion, guess Kia and the hamster commercials killed it. GT86 is much cooler though

tC was probably the only good looking car Scion ever had. Maybe whatever that more sporty sports car they had...but not for the price. While those numbers are good for Toyota, I'm sure a good chunk of younger buyers were moving over to brands like Toyota and Honda due to reliability build quality and fuel economy not found in domestic autos.

Edit: It was the FRS.

The scions I notice on the road have always been damn ugly. Looked up the FRS and it looks nice. I don't know if I've ever seen that.

Had a brz, nice little car, even better when I dropped in a turbo, until got into an accident :(. Always wanted the gt86, but the BRZ offered more and the FR-S that came to stateside was gimp in offerings. That and I was able to haggle a BRZ limited to FR-S invoice price.

The community (well those on the forums) are pretty respectable even with all the boy racers with all show and no go.

I'm excited its under toyota now but Im not holding my breath in any new upgrades to the car which is a shame...
