Toyota is killing the Scion brand

It's hard to be excited for the BRZ when the 2015 WRX I purchased ended up being a bit cheaper than the BRZ. It just didn't make sense to get a BRZ and all the practical downsides that go along with it living in NYC. I respect the car immensely however.

I was in the exact same boat. I bought a 2013 WRX new for $1k cheaper than a BRZ. I mean, I cross-shopped the cars, and test-drove both on the day that I bought my WRX. The WRX is a whole lot more car for the same price (or less!). Four doors, AWD, pretty practical, and a lot quicker.

The problem is, it wont look anything close to that concept.

This was the concept for the FR-S..

Is that car flaunting its ass at me? Oh god I'm seeing the subliminal messages now.

I'm sad to see the Tc go. Very excited to see what Toyobaru are going to do with the 86. I also think that if the 86 doesn't do so well again, next gen might be its last.

As for those wishing for turbo 86's, not happening. I can see Subaru releasing a turboed STI version of the next gen BRZ, but I just can't see Toyota doing the same with the 86.

They are nice cars and I liked the unique design with the Xb, but I couldn't get out of my head always seeing this on every tc when they first came out which couldn't help peoples perception on quality:

Is this a common thing with tCs? I saw a guy leaving my campus the other day and it had the same thing dangling from its trunk.

On another note, I own a FRS myself, the Scion badging never really irked me because I knew it was still a GT86, but more or less sad that the car will not be getting any future releases. Its a real fun car to drive, the only downside being size of the interior/trunk space. I might end up selling it to get a hatchback WRX in the future to have a little more space.

Yeah, I think they finally had a recall or were fixing them free of charge. My sister inlaw has a tc and hers broke, Scion fixed it, broke again, she paid out of pocket since she was over the mileage to fix it, and finally when it broke again she taped it back on. They built the lever into this piece, but it's not designed to open the trunk even though you would naturally think you can open the trunk from the handle. I don't see them as often now, but this was the common sight when they were the latest thing on the roads.

WRX is a lot larger though and heavier though. It's like 3200lbs compared to 2800 on the BRZ. I don't blame you though. The starting price between the two is so damn close.

I am going to make it through this year if it kills me
I wanted an xB so bad when it was still the same car as the Japanese BB, but then they decided to Americanize it and it looked so stupid.

Ended up getting a Nissan Cube instead and never looked back.

The first gen xB was neat, but with the redesign, it took a lot of the space efficiency out of it.

I own a 2009 xb, and was my first new car I ever purchased. I have to say it's held up really nicely in the Alaskan winter for 7 years. A pity they're getting rid of the brand, the no hassle price was a great selling point for me.

I didn't know they sold just over 1m combined since their debut, or that the team was so small. Interesting insight that puts things into perspective.

It'll be a Toyota by summer, even though it's really a mazda lol.
I actually saw a Mazda2 here in Iowa recently, dunno where it came from since they apparently aren't sold as such here. Pretty sure someone in my apartment drives an iA, though.

There's also a red FR-S sitting in the lot here, which I swear hasn't moved in at least a year. Maybe the owner is out of the country, or in jail, or deceased or something. It still annoys me that it's just sitting there.

So I guess this means I should pan to hold onto my black '08 xB even tighter.

I really love the look of that car. It wasn't the straight up "cardboard box on wheels" the first couple years were, but it doesn't have the whole "Bubble Car by FIsher Price" thing from the end of the line going on, either.

It's, like, 80% practical 20% style, and that works for me.

Man I hate my tC! Should have a research real good about the common VVTI gear problem. Can't believe they won't recall it as Toyota blames it as a user problem... Shit is $2k fix and I ain't got the money for that shit

You know what you gotta do.
...

Anyway, I've seen exactly one iA out in the wild, and I gotta say, I'm not a fan of the look.

I mean, look at the mug on this thing:

and nothing of value was lost.

Toyota please make an FRS v2 with ~230hp, and release it in 2018. And please for the love of everything that is holy, don't have the same grill as the new prius.

The only thing I know about Scion is that it was the name of a town in the original Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System.
