http://blog.maniaplanet.com/?p=112

"Hello everyone !

We’ve never been that close to the launch and it is time for us to go even faster : may the red booster be with us!

That’s the reason why we’re offering from August 17 onwards, until the launch of the game, the multiplayer beta to each one of you buying TrackMania² Canyon.

It is a turning checkpoint for Ubisoft Nadeo as we will be opening doors to all of the players willing to jump into the 1st ManiaPlanet online title right away.

For $24,99 / £19,99, you will be able to buy the game before the launch and install the multiplayer beta, which includes the map editor and the mediatracker (for videos editing). Upon release day, the beta version will be automatically updated to the finale and complete version of the game.

It will be available on www.trackmania.com.

Should you fear to forget about it, here is a little widget to install on your PC : it will recall you the time left before D-Day and zero hour

FUCK. YES.

UNNNNNNNNNG

I'M NOT READY FOR THIS. IT'S TOO SUDDEN.

Don't delay it

I dunno if it'll be available for pre-order on steam or not. I also don't even give a fuck, personally. I bought TMU from some european DD place like 7 months before it was released in the US officially and on Steam. I regret nothing.

Do want.
I might have to break both my no UBI drm ever and no pre orders ever rules just this once for this particular game.
25 euros is a steal.

Gota support that trackmania.

edit: real shame that it won't be on steam, not looking forward to yet another log in.

This game looks stunning. Will my GTX 460 (768MB) be able to handle it maxed at 720p? I don't know how anyone would know the answer yet, but tell me anyway!

This is one game I don't mind not having on Steam, as it has such a huge community and is basically a racing platform. If ever it gets re-released on Steam, I'll probably double dip at some point.

Bring it on! So excited!

For those wondering, it does not use Ubisoft DRM, however it apparently does require a connection for Solo mode. It doesn't require a connection for the Editor, LAN, Splitscreen, or Hotseat.

Sounds good to me! As long as LAN play is there without an internet connection, I'm happy.

Solo mode is probably fully integrated into the community with the lap time submissions, which would be the reason for a connection being required. You could do non-official laps in LAN mode anyways, if you wanted to still play without a connection.

Proper LAN support (infuriatingly rare in games these days) and nothing for editor is something at least.
I wonder why you need one for the SP though.

Probably just because solo is tied into the currency system they have in place - Your online account earns Trackmania moonbucks for beating certain records when you're just playing by yourself, and it updates your position on the leaderboard.

I see.
Still, they could have just disabled the leaderboard for offline play.
Perhaps a facepalm moment if you finally break that record time during, but a real man can repeat his best moments:p

If you can dick around driving on all tracks in editor mode then I guess it wouldn't matter.

Love the price.

Have they said what download policies are? Do you get one download and then have to make sure you retain/make a back-up? I really would prefer Steam, but it's not going to be a deal-breaker.

Excite! I'm kind of over steam integration now having seen how well the overlay works with quake live
and not caring about achievements/hours played

Will be buying on the 17th :)

I'm sure you can play them in LAN mode regardless.

That video is very impressive. I've not played the series, how viable is just having a gamepad? It looks very precise in that video, but I've seen some wacky stuff from the first one, I gather it's quite an arcadey experience, I wouldn't be missing out not having a wheel I gather?

Superwin. Cant wait.

Gamepads are great. I only play it with a 360 control, keyboard is garbage IMO, and Im not hardcore enough to buy a wheel for it. Extremely arcadey. Like someone liked Fzero, Outrun, Tony Hawk Pro Skater (the fun ones, way back when) and just smashed them shits together. Half pipes and loops and stuff everywhere, crazy.

Trackmania is actually quite hindered from playing with a wheel. It does require precision, but it requires a speed that using a wheel would just slow down. The game actually controls better with a keyboard than it does a wheel due to the fact that you might need to go from a hard turn in one direction to a hard turn in the opposite direction almost instantaneously. Gamepad also works fine.

Cool thanks, I'll check out the last one on Steam, see if it's my cup of tea.

I think what they're planning with the shooter/RPG ones are potentially very exciting too.

Hmmm, count me in with those who never tried the series but are sold thanks to the gameplay videos.

How's the developer's track record when it comes to system requirements? If I can play this on relatively high settings I think I'm gonna be there day 1.

Valve really need a free section so people can find this stuff. You can search by price starting at the lowest but it skips free stuff. Codename Gordon doesn't even show up on search, really strange. I guess it costs them bandwidth, but still.

I'll play it tomorrow though, thanks. The trailer on that page is considerably more crazy looking than the video above.

Trackmania Nations (Which only included the latest environment) scaled very well from both low end machines to very high end machines and still performed well while looking very impressive. They've said they want to continue that with TM2.

Beta access for preorders, no normal Ubisoft DRM, and less than $30 on release. Sounds good to me, since it sounds like at least some offline modes will be available!

Of course, $25 each is like $125 if they come out with five environments but I guess we'll see how it goes. :P I plan to preorder!

Don't get discouraged if you get bored playing single player. Online mode is where the craziness is at.

I think I did like 4 tracks offline and went immediately online. Never looked back.

Hmmm .. conflicted right now.
One the one hand, I don't care too much for racing genre.
However, calling this a driving simulation would be criminal.

Fuck it, $25 spent .. well soonish

Holy shit at the video! A fucking steal at that price!

its not a racing game. Its an arcade game with cars in it.

when is the full game due? Also slightly worried about specs required. My PC will be fine, but my son's laptop is an i5 2410 with GT540M GPU.
