Trackmania 2 Canyon Beta Pre-Orders + Beta live NOW NOW NOW GO MOVE NOW

its not a racing game. Its an arcade game with cars in it.

when is the full game due? Also slightly worried about specs required. My PC will be fine, but my son's laptop is an i5 2410 with GT540M GPU.

Yeah, was the point I was trying to make :p
regarding the specs, there's some discussion about the performance on different hardware here

Also for those wondering.

Final is still planned for September, pre-order price is not exclusive to pre-orders (aka it will cost the same on release)

What the.... Huhhhh??

How have I never heard of this shit before? This series or game or what... *headesplode*

Get Trackmania Nations from Steam to check it out. Very fun and completely free.

Saying that the game plays better with a pad than with a wheel is very subjective. I played TM1 with an FFB wheel and managed to put up top times and get 1st place on some of the most technical tracks. There's no way I could get comfortable playing TM or any racer for that matter, with either a pad or a keyboard.

Oh and just FYI if you will be using an Xbox 360 controller don't expect any rumble support because there won't be any.

"UbiDRM confirmed for this?"

Deconfirmed. Won't have UbiDRM, but will still require an online connection for Solo mode and MP, won't require an online connection for the Editor, LAN, Hotseat, or Splitscreen.

Thanks for the heads up. Not liking their stance with Steam, though I understand it. However, I had too much fun with Trackmania United to not pre-order this.

Ok. Googled a bit for it, and found the NeoGaf thread about Maniaplanet. I´m less interested in this now since I hate that every developer wants to force their own community on their players instead of intergrating existing ones. Not saying that I won´t buy it, but I will not pre-purchase it until I have gotten a feel for what Maniaplanet is.

Solo connection is almost certainly for the leaderboards, make sure you aren't cheating scores etc.

"Will the game support controller"

One of the beta testers recording videos say that they're using a 360 pad, so that's probably a yes.

Makes me happy to hear. I would have bet money those guys were using a keyboard:)

Are they going to update the game with other arenas (Stadium etc) or will we have to pay for those?

It seems awfully strange they would launch the game with only one arena when the first game had many, including the very popular Stadium. To me, it seems like they're selling a half-finished game. But I guess if they update the game or if the game is big enough and they don't plan to add other arenas then that's okay with me.

My understanding is that you'll have to buy them one at a time, thus my comment about $125 or whatever. Kind of like StarCraft/II. I thought the original games didn't have so many themes, but I only played the free version until I bought the ultimate super united star power edition on a rare sale.

Actually, the first game only had 3 and it didn't include Stadium. Trackmania Sunrise had another new 3 (again, no stadium). They then released Nations for free (which is part of the reason it's so popular), and then packed in all 7 environments into one game some 5-ish years after the release of the first and sold it as United. The first Trackmania was also more expensive.

New Environments will be sold.

The first game had three, the second game had three, and then they spent time on Stadium alone.

This game is released at half the original price of the Trackmania/Trackmania Sunrise (I think), so while the "price per environment" isn't quite as good, I don't think it's anything to worry about. Especially given the hike in asset complexity, engine complexity, and freedom for mapmakers.

Actually, has Nadeo said anything about the possibility of pulling a Trackmania Original and bringing the old environments over to the TM2 engine for United owners?

Sounds like a big stretch, but, hey, who would have thought that Trackmania Original would have happened in the first place?

Thanks for the answers. I'm not sure how I feel though. I haven't bought expansions for a long time.

I have Trackmania United and love it. Obviously Trackmania 2 isn't $US50, so there's that. But I'd really just prefer a full package rather than little separate ones (even if it costs more for the overall package).

I think they have their plate full with all they're trying to do with Maniaplanet. TM2/SM/QM releases on a regular basis.

is trackmania becoming episodic now?
"canyon" subtitle, just one landscape, low price - i hope those indications are wrong :-/

So has there been any specific examples given to how the Mania worlds will connect? I mean have Track Mania and Shooter Mania happen within the same 'stage'?

I love this series so much that I'm completely OK with the Steam situation and I'll be picking this up the instant it's available.

"So has there been any specific examples given to how the Mania worlds will connect? I mean have Track Mania and Shooter Mania happen within the same 'stage'?"

Not yet, but yes the entire point is that Maniaplanet will be one all encompassing platform for Trackmania, etc.

Those indications are right.

really disappointed on that part. But everything else is cool. :)

Don't worry, Trackmania 2: Episode 3 will be the best episode ever. Whenever it comes out. ;p

My guess is it'll be overrated and Canyon will be considered the best of the bunch and the one that nailed everything perfectly.

Ok cool. Btw any idea on the size of Nadeo?
I was going to say that its odd that there has been no real concrete info on questmania and shootermania, I was then going to comment on that if it took 3 years for just trackmania 2, we might be in the long haul. I then found this

Wonder if this still valid? I mean sure shift everything up a few months, but this suggests that atleast shootermania and Trackmania was worked on in tangent?

Months? More like nearly a year. But they do currently claim the schedule is going to be fairly brisk. We'll see. Seems ambitious.

Nadeo is really small. I dunno if they've expanded since, but the last number I heard of their size about a year-ish ago was like 11 people. Apparently the big delay in Trackmania 2 was due to them wanting to expand the capabilities of the scripting language, they said it would be hard to do what they wanted after they released the game and people begin to actually use the language. They also changed their first release from Valley (if you look at the first off-screen video of TM2, it's actually Valley, not Canyon) to Canyon.

The motherload of arcade racing is back ! Sign me in Nadeo.
This will actually speed up my plan to repair my corded 360 pad. I am lazy and took forever to buy those tiny screwdrivers.
That poor 360 pad was victim of a Cola catastrophe.

Edit : So how is Canyon physics anyway ? Compared to trackmania nation ? Or is it totally fresh ?

Judging from videos, it looks about as fast as Island but with better drifting mechanics. Can't say for sure until we're let in the beta.

How is this game for beginners at driving games?

Easy to learn, hard to master, I'd say. You should try out whichever version of Trackmania 1 is free. The paid version has a bunch of different car types and they all handle differently (though it's not a sim, it's arcadey all the way), but only a couple are actually difficult to control from moment to moment. The game is more about perfecting your racing line. That said I don't know how the car in TM2 will control, but it looks pretty arcadey too.

So let me get this straight £19,99 is the price that it will remain even when its out or is this a pre-order only price and has a release date been announced yet?

Seems that 20~L~ will also be the official price.

Good luck taking it apart. I think I'd rather roll the dice, soak it in a bath of water, let it dry out ounce it's been cleansed, and see what happens. Neither way seems that encouraging.

It happend that i'll be interviewing Nadeo guys tomorrow, so if you have any interesting questions, feel free to share'em with me. Be sure I'll add them on my list.
