Just bought this today. Confused as shit. I'm trying to play splitscreen with my friend, but it won't let me play unless I enter a code. What's the code to play splitscreen?

Also, is multiplayer real-time, or is it all racing against ghosts?

So I just got stadium, but I forgot how to turn off the name tags that hover over other racers, it totally gets in the way with the smaller more cramped tracks.

Multiplayer is real-time, but there is no collision in TM so it's essentially just like racing ghosts.

As for the code, l suspect it's the same code you need to enter before you can use the in game currency(planets). I believe it's found somewhere on the maniaplanet site. Never bothered with it myself. Actually stopped playing on one of my favorite servers because I got permanently silenced for swearing and couldn't pay the fine without entering the code once.

For me it's the '|' key. Can't remember if that is the default key or If l set it manually. On an American keyboard the equivalent key would be the '~' key.

Is Stadium the new version everyone's going to be playing instead of Canyon?

It just felt so lonely on the server I played on. Maybe because nobody said or typed anything at all. I was hoping for a more "Man, look at this shit!" experience rather than driving next to a bunch of soulless drones.

And about the code thing, I found it on the site. This is the only game I've played where I have to program a goddamn race.

I thought Stadium was going to be free?
That's what I thought too. Something very strange going on with that.

TrackMania 2: Stadium AnnouncedNadeo has been very busy today. Not only have they confirmed that a Stadium expansion will be released for TrackMania 2 next year for free, but also that ShootMania will be released properly on January 23rd.

Hardly a super reputable source but it's not like a ton of people were reporting on TrackMania when Valley was re-announced. Ubisoft should have probably issued a statement if they were aware of this rumour.
There was also the idea that a basic version of MP² Stadium would be free,
and with the purchase for ~10€ you would unlock more features.
At the moment this is valid only for the actual open beta phase.
Apparently it was misreported, nice spin from Nadeo RE: the beta. Pretty disappointing that there isn't some sort of loyalty program for those that own Canyon. This will just fragment the community more. I'll play the beta some and wait for Valley I think.

FYI to all the folks here... After playing stadium earlier today for about 3 hours.

Here are the things that I've noticed in the Stadium:

Physics have changed from Trackmania Nations United.
-Its harder to drift on four wheels or two wheels. Hence some tracks are harder to play.
-Car seems slightly more heavier or grounded.
-No damage mode at all once again.

Aside from that:
The conversion tool for old great tracks from Trackmania Nations United sucks for Trackmania 2 Stadium
-Some areas become too bright and blinds you where to go.
-Whereas some dark areas become too dark and it seems that you are going into a cave. :|

Regardless, its been a disappointment minus some of the nice visuals.

Meh on Stadium, everyone buy Canyon, we need more players.

Canyon has the best handling of all the Trackmania iterations, imo. Love the actual game, hate everything else around it, hundreds of hours of joy.

Bumping this since it was on the steam sale.
Finally got Canyon , I wish I had gotten it earlier.

Seems like a more accessible version of trackmania that still retains the depth of nations.
I'm hooked already, speed as a reward is so good in this game.
Sad to see that the UI is still the same maniaplanet garbage though :(

Question: any tips for finding good servers? I tried joining a random one but the map rotation was too fast (10 mins or so).
I'd like to find some servers with regular players and excellent maps. (EU)

How does valley compare? I'm tempted to buy that too since I enjoy canyon so much.

After spending several hours with Valley, I find myself preferring the handling model of Canyon. I still haven't gotten used to the off-road handling on Valley. I keep waiting for it to click with me but it just hasn't happened yet.

Make sure you join the NeoGAF group (see OP for details). There might not be a whole lot of activity there if people have moved on though. Maybe the sale will get some more people playing.

Happy to report Canyons' player base has picked up in recent months, it's not a tremendously busy but it's solid.

Since I just picked up Canyon during the sale I'm not sure how the community works, are they all fairly equal in terms of activity or do most people usually move on to whichever is newest until the next one is out?

I just started playing it today and ended up playing for 5 hours without realizing it. I'm really loving it. I might pick up Valley as well if that's what most people are playing, but Canyon is more than good for right now.

Trackmania 2 Universal Demo – Now Available, Includes Track Building Tool

Ubisoft Nadeo released today the Trackmania 2 Universal Demo. Built around a powerful and easy track building tool, the Trackmania 2 Universal Demo is more than a simple demo. In addition to provide access to an infinite content, it also enables players to make their own demo, based on their maps and innovative modes made with Maniaplanet, the game operating system behind Trackmania 2. These modes can be for single player campaigns or for multiplayer ranked innovative experiences.

Florent Castelnerac, managing director of the Ubisoft Nadeo studio, said:

“To see players enjoy your games for years is something that can make you feel quite happy. And what can makes you even happier is to help as many as possible players to share the same feeling, would it be for tens or millions of players. Amateurs were the pioneers of many extremely popular games of today and are really likely the ones for many of tomorrow. And we do our best to welcome these pioneers in Maniaplanet.”
From today, players can download the demo and easily experience:

- All sceneries: Canyon, Valley & Stadium
- 45 white solo tracks
- All online servers
- The map editor & other tools
- Up to 3 user made solo & multiplayer experiences

The Universal Demo is unlimited in time for the first 48h and a minimum of 1h per day after, depending of the activity of the games.
