This trailer is RIDICULOUS.

A Serious Man is the story of an ordinary man’s search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and “F-Troop” is on TV. It is 1967, and Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg), a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university, has just been informed by his wife Judith (Sari Lennick) that she is leaving him. She has fallen in love with one of his more pompous colleagues, Sy Ableman (Fred Melamed), who seems to her a more substantial person than the feckless Larry. Larry’s unemployable brother Arthur (Richard Kind) is sleeping on the couch, his son Danny (Aaron Wolf) is a discipline problem and a shirker at Hebrew school, and his daughter Sarah (Jessica McManus) is filching money from his wallet in order to save up for a nose job. While his wife and Sy Ableman blithely make new domestic arrangements, and his brother becomes more and more of a burden, an anonymous hostile letter-writer is trying to sabotage Larry’s chances for tenure at the university. Also, a graduate student seems to be trying to bribe him for a passing grade while at the same time threatening to sue him for defamation. Plus, the beautiful woman next door torments him by sunbathing nude. Struggling for equilibrium, Larry seeks advice from three different rabbis. Can anyone help him cope with his afflictions and become a righteous person – a mensch – a serious man?

Comes out October 2nd.

Ummm... Yeah.

Not sure what to think, absolutely love the Coen Brothers but their last two comedies haven't been all that great IMO. They can probably draw me in to their next 5 movies based on their past movies alone though :lol

Reading was a great flick. Just have to be in the mood for it...like most coen films.

Edit: That beat in the background, repetition of images/sounds, and varying amount of scenes made that... mesmerizing. And from the looks of it they are pretty far along.

Great trailer.

They were actually filming this by my college last year. They were using some rooms and stuff for dressing and staging. Unfortunately I didn't get to see the Coen brothers.

Hmmm...Jews..divorce..comedy...coen bro's...rabbi..thus comedy gold!
Day 1 for sure!
;)

I did not enjoy Burn After Reading nor No Country were awesome...

Someone told me point blank to my face that I had bad taste in film because I liked Burn After Reading. I was simply left confused. I don't understand people who don't get black comedy.

Trailer was weird and done in a unique way. But I don't think I'm gonna watch this movie. Looks boring to me. Just my opinion though.

Since the Coens are probably my favorite filmmakers (they're up there, anyway), I'll be there day 0. No Country and Burn After Reading were both excellent, and I'm sure this will be the same. It seems that the Coens are back into the swing of being awesome.

I get black comedy, but didn't like Burn After Reading. The best part about the movie was Brad Pitt's character. Overall, I love the Coen Brother's though.

I love black comedy actually but I thought Burn After Reading was badly acted, it was like I knew what type of movie they wanted to make but they failed on so many levels, funny part is they had amazing actors, I love malkovich but I think it was his worst acting :lol

The story and characters were completely over the top. They were played accordingly.

I don't know how you can be a Coen Brother's fan and not enjoy Burn After Reading. It's classic Coen comedy in every possible sense.

Don't listen to these fools posting above me. You are factually correct, my friend.

Classic Coen Comedy is The Big Lebowski, IMO. I just didn't like the characters in Burn After Reading. I saw what they were going after in trying to be funny, but it just wasn't.

:lol

It's the exact same kind of humor, in fact the thematic and storrytelling parallels in the 2 films are staggering.

The only real difference is that in TBL the characters are idiots in an endearing way, rather than an infuriating one.

The difference is The Big Lebowski is a fucking funny movie, and Burn After Reading is not. Although, to be honest, I'm much more of a fan of serious Coens than funny Coens (Lebowski aside, obviously).

Anyway, this new one looks great.

they are the guys behind Burn After Reading right? because I laved that movie last year MOTY for me, can't wait for this:D
