Trailer for 'The Office' spinoff, 'The Paper', streaming September 4th

I'm skeptical but the cameo at the end made me laugh. Pretty in-character for him.

The real question is who's working on it.

I didn't watch all of the US version so I've always wondered, within the fictional world of The Office, were they filming that documentary for about 10 years without it airing anywhere?

It airs in season 9

They even eventually do a Q&A fan panel within the show

Another day, more creative bankruptcy

Just remember that everyone who made this agreed to it solely for the money and they are the exact charlatans who will be complaining the loudest about "the destruction of art" when AI comes to take their jobs in a year or two. Ignore them

I love The Office, at least the early seasons, so I will definitely check this out. But the vast majority of the jokes in The Office were funny because they're not PC and wouldn't fly today

They've already gone back and censored a bunch of episodes:
  • Dwight Christmas (S9E9)
  • Diversity Day (S1E2)
  • A Benihana Christmas (S3E10/11)
  • The Convict (S3E9)
  • Gay Witch Hunt (S3E1)
  • Sexual Harassment (S2E2)
  • Lecture Circuit (S5E16)
  • Todd Packer (S7E18)
  • Scott's Tots (S6E12)
I only expect this list to grow. This is a long winded way of saying I have very little faith that this will be good

I absolutely fucking hate that these studios and companies are going back and censoring old work. Like maybe instead just tell people to get over it? The constant pussyfication to appease people who largely don't even consume the media in question is ridiculous.

Did they forget to hire comedy writers for this comedy series?

This will get canceled after no more than three episodes.

Watched the trailer and didn't laugh once. Can't catch lightning in a bottle.
This should be about as good as The Office was from season 5 until the end.

The way you guys feel about this show is how I always felt about The Office, Superstore, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Rec, and Abbott Elementary.

Hence buying DVDs is more relevant than ever now

They're doing the same shit to Always Sunny

This looks truly awful, I don't think I saw anything that even gave me a smirk.

What the fuck did I just watch? This is like the TEMU version of the office.
Not one likable character, not one likable line nothing funny about it. It looks truly truly spectacularly awful.

Even the Australian Remake of The Office on Amazon Prime looks much funnier

Did you watch the trailer for Peacocks Spin-Off of The Office in 2025? You may be entitled to compensation.

I wonder if Ricky Gervais has some sort of involvement here - his character in his Netflix show (afterlife) works at a regional newspaper.

I haven't seen the trailer, but I really liked the US office. That show took until at least the second season to bed in. So no need to prematurely condemn this.

I would say, however, that Oscar might be the least funny character from The Office. Transplanting him in to generate some early interest is an interesting choice. I presume he'll have to be the straight man baffled by the chaos of the other characters, or similar.

I don't see a single likeable character and that's a huge problem, because it was one of the main reasons for The Office to gain popularity. Plus we all know the jokes will be tamed, just like some idiots decided to censor 'uncomfortable' episodes from the original (US) show.

The problem with the Greg Daniels/Mike Shur comedies (I don't know if they are involved here) is that it's very hard to encapsulate the funny stuff from the show in such trailer with music that drops after a line to create a reaction. If they'd show the same with the Office or Parcs & Rec, it would've resulted in the same result

What did they change?

What did they change?
The only ones I know about are the blackface gag getting cut in Dwight Christmas, and season 6's Koi Pond Halloween-themed cold open getting cut from everything (even the DVD!). I hear that various networks make various edits but that's pretty common in cable TV and happens for a bunch of reasons (often time-related).

Even if US Office came into its own thing in s2. S1 is still very watchable.

I think Oscar is a bait, he will leave at the the end of the first or 2nd episode.

What did they change?
Look up whatever episode you're interested in figuring out because it's all over the place

They've removed Michael hanging himself because I guess we can't joke about that, fag is censored, retard is censored, blackface was removed, etc

Not as bad as always sunny though. They've straight up removed episodes of always sunny. Entire episodes.

I thought the same. Incompetent people working at a newspaper seems too coincidental for a show relates to a remake of a Gervais project.

People always say this, but I think I've made it through s1e1, maybe e2, and couldn't do it. I liked Parks & Rec, but that isn't full of inferior clones of characters I already know.

Banning episodes is always going too far. I've seen the banned episodes of Sunny and none are too offensive - the joke is the characters. I also have Scrubs on DVD and nothing is ban worthy.

The most annoying removal for me is Community's D&D episode. Chang paints himself black (not brown, black) and there's immediately a joke about how it's a hate crime. And they move on because it's a dark elf. There isn't a damn human alive that is matte black and it wasn't done in Minstrel style.

I'm interested in the US Office removed/censored episodes because I bet none were worth removing and they joke is how you shouldn't do certain things.

I'm sure TV censorship actually encourages the modern societal approach of wanting to destroy anything with no grey areas even if it's pre-emptively out of fear. Especially if out of fear.
